my mom worked at Kmart (rip mom and kmart lol) and one night when my dad and I went to pick her up from her shift, she surprised me with the Yugi starter deck. I can still remember the street lights illuminating the packaging. It sounds silly i know, but it was the start of everything. Thanks mom.

nothing silly about it mate just an overall wholesome story. sorry that she passed, rest in peace legend mom. i got my first cards when i was shopping with my mom and sister. a random clothing store was selling the starter decks and lob. my mom got me the kaiba starter and five lob packs. tri horned dragon + monster reborn pulled, was insane :D i stopped playing before links dropped because i already disliked the direction the way was going and when they were about to introduce links with new extra deck restrictions it ended it for me because they killed off so many older decks which was always my jam .. but i still like watching some ygo content so im happy this opening got recommended to me, always nice to see what started it all. happy new year everyone, may you all have a good one.

SDY Dark Magician is the best DM ever printed. I like it even more then the DDS version. It’s the best ultra rare in yugioh imo

If we're ignoring value then the starter deck versions would definitely be rank 1 for me. Just such a nostalgic feeling whenever I see them. I remember getting both of these decks on separate occasions and opening them at my grandma's apartment.

Although I’m very familiar with the card list for SDK and SDY, I still watched the video because of all the information you provide us regarding print runs, quality, different methods of packaging/display etc., that few other channels don’t mention, to keep other collectors aware. Also, you have an earlier print of 1st ed SDK because at 6:12 you got a “Dark Assassin” instead of “Dark Assailant” ;)

This made me remember when my parents got me the SDK; my first starter deck. It was the rare unlimited version with the black plastic. Good times! Damn bro... You revived me the nostalgia of these decks... I started to play Yugi back in 2009, I was 10 years old and my cousin bought the two pack combo, Yugi and Kaiba starter decks, these exactly ones, and he gifted me the Yugi deck, :,), that is why the Dark Magician es my favorite card from all Yugioh TCG, is so damn beautiful and nostalgic.

Pet peeve: I wish people wouldn''t hold rare cards from their sides (like at 8:07) because skin oils are absorbed into the white of the card. It's why older cards can yellow with lots of use. Anyway, I literally started my Yugioh journey with these two decks. I was an only child so I convinced my dad to get me both and I still have most of the cards in decent condition to this day.

I remember in the early 2000’s I was like 8-9 years old when I first started to collect pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, but my parents were really poor and they could never afford to buy me any cards, I remember I used to rip open all of the starter deck kaiba’s, yugi’s, joey’s, and pegasus’s, and just pocket the decks. I had so many of these, like literally about 40 of them all together, and I remember one time I finally got caught doing it, I remember the cops came and scared the shit out of me and my dad beat my ass really good when me and my mom got home from wal-mart. From that day on I learned a lesson that you don’t steal. Glad I learned the lesson early on, I was young and didn’t know any better.
