Thanks for being the guinea pig, I've seen a lot of underpriced items like this Diawa Tatula and thought it must be a scam but you and others in the BFS world have at least pointed me to some dimes in the rough. Any stores you know of selling legit Shimano or Lews brand?
@AaronHuntFishing10 ай бұрын
@@MakeAmericaNiceAgainPlz I don't know of any personally. DOn't really look at the Lews brand much as they haven't jumped into BFS. Generally, I can find a similar or better price on Shimano out of Japan, so I just haven't bothered with AliExpress. As far as Daiwa - if it's Asian Market or typically made in CHina or Thailand, it might be worth looking at. Just look out for some of the red flags I mention in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZ-ciap7aseAg68

I love my Tatulas, but I want to get my hands on a Diawa Mountain Stream BFS reel in the worst way. But funny that you did this video with this reel, because I was doing the exact same thing with an 80. Nice to know I'm not alone. Can't wait to see you put this to use.

I'm sure my Daiwa Silver Creek will start showing up on the channel in March again. It's definitely one of my favorite reels for trout streams. March is kind of like "Trout Month" for me. Goal is 10 trout trips by end of March to at least 9 different waters. And I just thought of anther one I can do next next week! I'm hoping to do the work on the Tatula this weekend, and maybe get it out to the test lake next week. Unless I find some good fishing this week and decide to hit a spot again before it gets really cold again.

For the Egg a bobber stopper or earing backing might work for keeping it on the hook or a small silicone hose/surgical tube keeping it pegged like a trailer hook

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Tatula in action. I've been considering replacing the Dark Wolf Ultra on my Ray's Tarantula with a more premium reel like the Curado BFS I have on my Dobyns. A Tatula on a Tarantula would look great too.
@AaronHuntFishing10 ай бұрын
Yes it would. I'm planning on doing the build this week, and it will probably be on the next bass fishing trip after that. I was trying to get to it today and take it out this week, but that's just not going to happen. I need to not be rushed when I'm working on a reel or lure modifications. :)

I would love to know what you think about the tatula vs some cdm reels like your favourite dwu clone (seasir or misurelure?). How do they stack up. I never used expensive fishing gear only when i chase game fish. I think for bread and butter fishing you can getaway with budget fishing gear. I use spin reels and recommend a shimano sienna as a budget entry level reel. Recently caught a 60cm australian snapper on my setup and it handled it easily. Now i question why spend more than $50 aud on a reel that i know can handle big fish very well. My expensive setup is a daiwa legalias which are $130. The biggest benifit is its way lighter and a 2500 reel has more stopping power than a 4000.
@AaronHuntFishing10 ай бұрын
Budget gear gets the job done. For most of us it's just an incremental improvement witht he more expensive gear. I'm looking forward to the Tatula as well. There should be several videos with it this year, as I hope to have it as one of my regular reels on the kayak to start the spring season.

Hey Aaron , Great video, I have the TW 80, I installed a Ray's Studio "solid" shallow spool (rated 1.8-15 gr), a drag clicker, and a 95mm, 4-bearing Carbon/Cork handle, that reel is Sweet ! gonna try some Speed Spool Micro bearings next. Also have Alphas 800-S (shallow spool - factory) that I put a drag clicker & 95mm, 4-bearing Carbon/cork handle, also an Awesome reel !! I actually prefer the Alphas smooth side-plate with the drag dial located on the bottom, over the Tatula side-plate dial location . but both of these reels are amazing !! got the TW 80 & all the accessories from AE, very happy with everything ! keep up the Great Work Man !!
@AaronHuntFishing10 ай бұрын
Thank you. Good to know. I almost went with the Alphas 800-s, but decided to give the Tatula a spin - partly so I can do a head to head at some point with the Salamandura. And partly because the Tatula has a good following in the USA. Sometimes YoUtube content and what people want to see drives my buying decisions. :) Appreciate the encouragement, too.

What rod did you order for the Tat 80? I am looking for a power bfs setup and I think the Tat 80 could be on my short list. Knowing a good rod to pair it with would be great (I unfortunately cannot afford your Kistler rod!)
@AaronHuntFishing10 ай бұрын
I had ordered a Handing Miracle bass in ML - but it came in as a spinning version. I do have a Miracle bass L I'll likely try it on - but it will probably end up on one of my 2X kistlers OR a Kistler Helium for a while. The Cashion Icon is supposed to be a good Power BFS rod as well - and is one I might try at some point. And then there's the Daiwa Blazon which could also be a good option. Here's a link to the Handing: amzn.to/3HDCPGU Unboxing coming soon on that one.

9:38 I've been confused I guess. I've never understood why anyone would want a bait clicker for a non baitfeeder (live bait.. Don't actively pay attention to) In my entire life I've never not been able to tell when a fish I'm fighting is pulling drag on the most silent of drags or no. The clicking when it's quiet is OK when it's loud it interrupts the serenity fishing brings
@AaronHuntFishing10 ай бұрын
Probably not confused - just different preferences or gear. Which is why they make so many different choices. An added bonus as a content creator is that viewers can easily tell when a fish is pulling drag too...
@scottstieber693610 ай бұрын
when finesse fishing , we use lighter lines... (for me) the drag clicker allows fine tuning the drag, letting the drag and the rod absorb the high impact bites & runs of larger fish , to prevent break-offs with the light lines. I have even installed drag clickers in a couple of my standard Tatula's as well as shallow micro spools. just making my equipment more versatile ! I use finesse techniques due to the high fishing pressure in my area !!
@L0st-n0found10 ай бұрын
@scottstieber6936 a drag clicker does not give better drag setting... I usually use 6-10lb braid fishing for saltwater inshore.. Snook, reds, snapper, grouper the odd shark. Sometimes 2lb. When I fished feshwater primarily back in the day I used 2-6lb. While at the time I did not consider it a catch... With the standards of getting you hand on the leader, I “caught" a 22' approximately greater hammerhead on 30lb mono Shakespeare walmart special conventional level wind and did catch as in hand in mouth and removed hook about an 800lb goliath grouper (still called Jewish at time) on same 30lb. Silent drag.
@AaronHuntFishing10 ай бұрын
@@L0st-n0found I didn't say it did - I simply stated I LIKE to hear when the drag is pulling - only got 50 yds of 6# line and sometimes 25-30 of it is already out on the cast... So let's just leave it as you don't understand why someone would want a drag clicker. It has about zero to do with the ability to catch fish. Or like Scott said - make it a little easier to set the drag where you want it. Again For those of us that prefer the clicker.
@L0st-n0found10 ай бұрын
@@AaronHuntFishingSorry was replying to @scottstieber6936 and somehow only the 'r6936' showed in reply. Scott said clickers were needed to enable fine adjustment of drag and when using lighter line and tackle. I've been a proponent of lighter line and tackle for over 40 years. I used to use 2lb and as much as 6lb as normal for bass, pike, pickerel, muskellunge, trout, salmon and some lighter freshwater. Some reels did have clickers and some I removed of the louder ones. My point was anyone fighting a fish can tell when drag is in use and how much by the feel. This presumes not slipping braid if using which I do for main line almost always now. I find it absolutely disgusting when Bass fisherman use 40 and 50 let alone to 80lb test line regularly and especially when whipping a bass through the air hard into a boat.
