Could you shrink the original oval to a circle? just wondering as space is limited at my house and I do want a 3 lane track.
@claredin4 ай бұрын
You can, but the outer lanes will always be longer than the inner lanes, so you really can't race with that configuration.

How much for that race track? Here in toronto will cost an arm and leg 😂

It's about $329

@@claredin haha thanks, this is actually our first season. Before this we were racing the same scale slot cars. The tech is virtually identical but the online knowledge repositories are much more robust, especially for motors.

@@robhardcastle2885 there's something about not being able to control your car after you drop it on the track that causes people to study the random forces more to try to make things less random :)

I was hoping you would show a closeup of how the parts snap together -- probably high precision or the cars would not run smoothly (another factor in the high cost). Is it feasible to assume one can put this track together in (?) minutes, and at the end of the day, take it down and put it away? Or is it too much work to do that realistically? I remember when the slot car craze hit, back in the 1960's (revealing my age here). This seems to be a big improvement over that technology. Are slot cars still around? How would you compare the two types? I personally was never a car hobbyist. Being a pilot, I went for flight simulators as soon as they became available on PCs.

Hi phongpit! There is an interlocking mechanism on the bottom of the tracks, but it's not as high precision as you may think. Many people use tape (wide plastic tape) to secure the tracks together so there are no gaps in between the tracks. Even a tiny gap or a slight offset where one edge sticks out can cause a course out. Strangely, the 2 lane track has clips to secure the tracks together, but there are no clips for the 3 lane. The 3 lane tracks are much more sturdy than the 2 lane, though. Once you race on a 3 lane, the 2 lane will feel like a toy.

The 3 lane track can be a beast to put together because you need a lot of space and you have to be careful putting the track pieces together. Many racers set up tracks in their yards on concrete. I wouldn't say this could be set up in minutes. Maybe minutes for a single oval, but for more than one track, it might take a while as you have to position everything just right. It's a lot easier to set up with two people. Yes, slot cars are still around and I'd say this is a very different hobby with different considerations. This hobby is more mechanical. Slot cars and RC are more electronic.

I think I will do a follow-up video soon with close-ups of the track pieces and how they fit together.
