About the movie:
Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces this epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis "Louie" Zamperini (Jack O'Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived on a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII - only to be caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand's (Seabiscuit: An American Legend) enormously popular book, it's the inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.

My great grandad built the burma railway (as a prisoner of war) and said that the japanese hated them so much, they even hated eachother. He tells me stories that just shock me, he would beg for his campmates to live another day, he would get a spoon full of rice a day and an egg a week if he was lucky. He was one of 300 that survived. If it wasn’t for his will to survive, i wouldn’t be alive. Respect to all war veterans.

15 goon first off a nuclear bombs was tested to see it devastation and was devastating Americans swore they will never use it again (Even tho we are 2nd in nuclear bomb silos). Secondly because of Pearl Harbor American couldn’t have known, why only japan because they were not white. It was a concentration camp it was a holding facility until the Japanese surrendered, they did have integration facilities where they were integrate Japanese-Americans but 99% would be let go, only main people who died in these camps were the elderly for being a poor condition because the Americans put a lot of their economics on a war effort. The Japanese were terrible, ever hear of the raping of nanking? Were they raped and murder thousands of the Chinese, they broke the Geneva convention thousands of times, for the sake of the emperor, they forced Koreans and Chinese to fight for them or be suicide zero pilots. You’re country is humble because they realized that they were monsters during that war, don’t get me wrong Russia, Germany and America did something’s that were terrible but they bombed the Japanese to end the war Germany surrender hitler was dead, they’re honor meant the death of thousands more and America didn’t wanna play with that shit. It was an honorable defeat but you can’t play the victim for your history.

I can't watch these movies. They're just too depressing. Being all too familiar with the history of what happens to American/western POW's, I made my peace when I was 17, since I had no family, or relatives whatsoever. Throughout my military career (25 years), I chose to die, rather than be captured. ISIS is a perfect modern example as to why. Still, it looks like one of the very best POW movies I've ever seen scenes from. Death before Dishonor.

Sorry, not illegal. No war approved by our government is illegal. So far all of our military actions are approved by Congress and the President, which is a 2/3'rd majority. I thank you for your service, but lets not spread misinformation. The wars may have been morally wrong and the American people told lies about certain aspects of them, but say that instead of "Illegal".

OMG, and Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are real. When 80% of a Regroupment Zone (South Vietnam) votes for reunification under Ho Chi Minh based on the 1954 Geneva Accords, along with no militarization of either zone (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Conference_(1954)), or in the case of Iraq, when lies are made about "weapons of Mass Destruction," then yeah, they're illegal wars. Oh, and it gets better, now that those 28 redacted pages from the 9/11 report are being released, showing that Bush's own buddies in the Saudi royal family and the Saudi Ambassador to the U.S. funded the attack, which BTW was carried out by Saudi's, not Iraqi's or Afghanis (Regarding Afghanistan, see The Crisis of Civilization on KZbin. It documents the negotiations in Houston, 2001 with the Taliban over stability so that a pipeline could run from the 'Stans, to Pakistan). Time to take the Red Pill and get unplugged from The Matrix. The U.S. has not been the good guys in world affairs for a long time. I think I might know, speaking as a retired U.S. Army Intelligence Officer.

So are you trying to put down people who have a “weak mind”...like if they die from troubles, it’s their fault? You do realize the sole reason Zamporini’s life story resulted in a movie is because it’s highly unusual for someone to survive that much trauma, right? He was a remarkable exception. Everyone will celebrate a champion, but will no one celebrate those who fought with all but lost anyway. Are they worthless chickenshit to you? Be careful, that mantra you glorify. There’s a right way and a wrong way to glorify it. No one who dies “weak” was responsible for it. In fact you dishonor many fallen soldiers with your comment!

What's interesting is there are films like this from Vietnam, Iraq, Korea, Japan, Philippines, etc. where the roles of good guys and bad guys are reversed. Meaning the Americans are the bad guys. It just shows that humans of all colors are capable of horrible acts. I think the entire world is grateful for what America did during WW2, but I must say our great credibility since then has vanished. It's pretty clear the world doesn't appreciate our presence on every continent. I think we owe it to great men like Mr. Zamperini to change our current foreign policy and stop committing the same acts we tried the Nazi's and Japanese. Americans get angry about the torture of U.S. soldiers during WW2, while the CIA is torturing people at this very minute. Doesn't really make sense. I wonder what great men like Mr. Zamperini thought about our current role in the 21st century.

ffjsb So you're making it a tally competition? Group A killed more innocent people than group B so group A is worse? The Nazi's were only in power for 12 years. Within those years, they killed like 10 million people right? The U.S. government has been around for about 250 years. I bet a $1000 the U.S. has killed more than 10 million innocent people in 250 years. Look at our history BEFORE and AFTER WW2. So many Americans get clouded by WW2 they forget the disgusting shit we've done prior and after. Murder is murder my friend. Kill one person or ten, you're going to prison for the rest of your life. Just because you think the U.S. has committed "some" atrocities doesn't make us better (or worse) than the Nazi's or Imperial Japan. It makes us the same.

+ffjsb The genocide of the Native Americans and the owning of other human beings because of their race up until a war that cost the US more casualties than any other war before or since made it illegal, and the subsequent treatment of that race even after slavery was made illegal are both pretty comparable to stuff done under the Nazis and Imperial Japan.

+NoJokes11B You've obviously forgotten WWI, once again, the Germans started it. Only an idiot thinks all war casualties are murder.
@NoJokes11B
@NoJokes11B 8 жыл бұрын
+ffjsb Did I ever say all war casualties are murder? Dude I love America too. But being an American with blind patriotism is the worst way to be American. Americans should admit to our past and current ignorance, arrogance, mistakes, crimes, etc. That's whats supposed to set us apart from the rest. That's what makes us special. And btw, the spark of WW1 is a lot more complicated than just "Germany started it". The French, Russians, British, Austrians, etc., anyone could've started it. War was going to happen regardless of the Germans. That's why many historians agree that the gradual appearance of alliances is one of the main reasons for WW1. Everyone thinks it's solely Germany's fault because they lost the war and all the blame was put on them. In my opinion, that is one of the greatest examples of "history is written by the victors".
@ffjsb

+NoJokes11B Then why are you acting like America is so horrible?? We actually make an effort to own up to our mistakes and be better. It's why people still come here from all over the world.

Japan did sign the Geneva Convention in 1942, but didn't ratify it in time, so Japan wasn't bounded to the convention. However Japan still followed up the rules of the Hague Convention in 1907 and there were no official cases of Japan breaking it.
