UNC Surgery Profile: Booker T. King, MD (Focus on Getting the Patient Well Through a Team Effort)

Dr. Booker T. King is the Director of the Noth Carolina Burn Center, Professor and Chief of the Burn Division at UNC in Chapel Hill. Dr. King discusses his life-long desire to be a doctor and his 20-year military career including being deployed to Iraq in 2003 as part of the 212 MASH. He also talks about his personal understanding of patients and their medical journey, since he had the experience as a family member of a patient who suffered a life-threatening burn.

I LOVE this Man! He saved my life back in February 2012 when I had an oxygen tank explode and had 67% 3rd and some 2nd degree burn coverage. I shouldn't have lived (funny what some outpatient recovery docs will share once you are out of harm's way) but I never got an infection and the work he did on me was incredible. Probably one of the most painful times in my life but because Dr. King was my Doctor, it wasn't just his / their handiwork on patching me up, but he took "bedside manner" to a whole other level of greatness. You can get mentally and spiritually going through serious skin surgeries and the showers after... Dr. King motivated me in both of the previous areas as well!! Hope you see this one day Doc... I'll never forget you nor will my family! With the UTMOST RESPECT, David Frisk (The guy that was play bitching about you all messing with my back tattoos and one ending up on my hand... If you remember, you laughed and said, "You are lucky I like you and you didn't have any offensive ones, or you would have graffed them on my forehead"... lol... My Mom still tells that story and said, "If he (me) did have anything ugly, she'd have asked him to do it herself".. Nothing is better in a burn unit than also have a Doc that can make you laugh!
