Hellmuth is such a good player, yet gets caught in these situations where basic poker knowledge dictates you fold, yet he keeps going and loses big. Then he gets mad. I don't understand how such a good player makes these basic mistakes.
@jackprecip5389 Жыл бұрын
He's not a good cash game player, especially NL, he never has been. In fact, cash players LOVE to see him enter a game. He's a tournament player with a specialty of building stacks against recreational players who make big mistakes. Hellmuth has spent decades creating exploitative lines against poor players, which usually fail against good players. Sure, he can beat good players at final tables when the blinds get so big that the game becomes almost like Bingo, but he's never going to thrive against really good players, because he never adapted his game. What makes Hellmuth so great, is that he has marketed himself for decades, not blown his money on stupid things, and has had a successful marriage and raised a family while playing poker for close to 40 years, which is incredibly laudable, because the whole point of professional poker is to be able to build and sustain a life playing a game you enjoy, and that's what really makes Hellmuth great, which is actually quite remarkable considering his overinflated ego. His wife is easily as large a part of his success as he has been, which only certain people really understand. At least 95% of poker players equal to or even better than Hellmuth from the "olden days" have self destructed with drugs, degenerate gambling, lavish spending, bad investments, loose women who take advantage of them or ones who drive them insane, etc, etc, to the point that most of them are dead or broke, and many are really quite pathetic today. The "poker world" is really not a place with many success stories in life, so I'll always consider Hellmuth great for that reason.
