They should make a DLC where Nathan Drake has to dumpster dive for some reason. Hell, I'd buy a whole game centered on that. You'd have to fight other hobos, beg for money to buy liquor, and dumpster dive for what I can assume was food at some point.

That's for a few people, but for me. the way how he review it, it felt like he didn't listen to the character dialogue to see how much they grown from the past games. Also he thought this game shouldn't have the action set piece's when this the last game, and to that fact the ones in the game was great, the car chase part was the best. lastly, yes not everyone gonna see it as a great game, but when you don't talk about how detail and how good the story end. then yes people will be upset.

I always liked drake for his jerk attitude and cheesiness, but yeah it did not mix so well with the seriousness of this games story, as such. I'm just glad the actual puzzles and combat were as good as ever. Eh, to each their own. I get your gripes but I think they did quite a bit to improve on the formula. I always hated having to fight off two waves of 20 baddies every 10 minutes in the previous games. At least in this one you can be sneaky and sometimes even skip encounters. The animation and graphics were fantastic! I think the characters were more believable and, for the most part, Drake seemed like he wanted to grow up and stop shooting people and acting crazy. He just couldn't get over his love for the treasure, the chase.

"Like it or not, consoles are the real drive behind technical innovation in games. With the exception of a handful of titles like Star Citizen, few PC exclusives are in the making that really push the visual front on high end PCs, simply because the market's not large enough. AAA developers are incentivized to implement higher end rendering techniques only when consoles are capable of handling them. It's simple economics" -Gamingbolt

One thing I did like about U4 is that there wasn't any supernatural or old science crap going on, it was just "well all these no-longer-pirates are now dead what the hell happened?" "Oh it seems they all betrayed each other, how surprising" No magic, just plain old greed with some "pirate ingenuity".
@TheStapleGunKid
@TheStapleGunKid 8 жыл бұрын
True, I did like the lack of supernatural elements, though it does make one wonder why Rafe was going after the treasure. If you've got enough money to hire a huge private army and take it all over the world, why bother risking your life for treasure hunting? I think that's why they included the supernatural elements in the prior games. It's the only valid plot justification for why rich warlords with entire armies at their command would go after them.

The writing in Uncharted 4 is shiet. You'd think after hearing Sam's story, Nathan would at least take 5 minutes of his own time to look up that the guy has been dead for 6 months.

Aya ya Which is what they did in the first sequence with Rafe too though. The only difference is that in the first sequence they have a cliffhanger of Sam possibly dying, despite the fact that its been established he's still alive beforehand. While in the second one they have a cliffhanger of that bad guy still being alive, but he's actually dead this whole time. Its the same but reversed.

I had to rage quit this game when I couldn't blow up one of their tank trucks with my newly acquired RPG; I thought that was the point of having one since I LITERALLY BLEW ONE UP FIVE MINTUES AGO! I didn't know I was supposed to turn around 3 seconds after it showed up to trigger an interactive cinematic that took forever just to lodge the fucking tank truck into a ditch to where I could shoot at it with an assault rifle and have it blow up like a typical Michael Bay movie.

It's innovative in polish and design. The levels are enormous now with many optional treasures, and the combat encounters are structured in a cause-and-effect sort of way in relation to the plot making it so that you can completely bypass enemies without killing anyone unless they're trying to kill you such as the marketplace escape scene. And how this structure ties in with the plot is sort of a metacommentary on past Uncharted's and shooters in general. It's pretty groundbreaking stuff if you ask me. Also, the subect matter and themes are quite adult and handled with brisk nuance interlaced with optional dialogues, journal entries, parchments, treasures, etc that make the adventure feel truly like alive, especially with how characters interact with everything you do.

Douglas Harris Those are more upgrades than full on innovation, Large scale linear levels aren't anything new (see Crysis) It's Shooting is still very similar to Uncharted 3, while its Stealth mechanics feel like a 'lite' version of MGS V's stealth gameplay.

The reason why they slammed Crash in there is because Crash fans literally beg for a new Crash game every day. I'm sure Naughty Dog would do it, but the greedy f-heads at Activision won't let him go. Sony never owned Crash, you know... (Btw, I LOATHE Acti)

I thought Naughty Dog basically lost the rights after Crash Team Racing (which is one of their best games, still). The games that came after were total trash - Crash Bash anyone? Ugh. So awful. I haven't played Uncharted 4, but the idea of putting a Crash Bandicoot thing in the game sounds like a great bit of nostalgia for them and the fans.

If you've somehow managed to hide yourself under a rock from all the various masturbatory hints Sony have shown of Crash Bandicoot returning since 2013, one of those hints being a very unsubtle in-your-face T-Shirt that quite literally had Crash Bandicoot on it worn by none other than Sony's new CEO Shawn Layden last year at a Sony press conference... Then congratulations. Plus, I am certain that the version of that level in Uncharted 4 was remade and Crash himself was given more than one new animation and for some reason Activision wasn't credited at the end, so you know what that means... Lastly not long after the hints from the trailers, Activsion removed all trace of the IP from their website...

***** I'm not denying it. I'm just puzzled. The fact that Sony's still hinting Crash after many reliable sources have told us that Sony doesn't own him (they never did btw, and neither did they own Spyro) is just flipping my head, and it's doing so even more now that we're having this conversation. Plus, I've seen articles in which Activision refused to allow Naughty Dog to hold Crash Bandicoot fan art contests. Something shady's going on. If Activision is relying on attention for their games by sitting their ass on Crash, then that's not good. Or was that about Yahtzee? Maybe he just never heard of the commotion. If that's the case, then it may make a little sense, since he lives in Australia, a country that may have more buzzy internet than USA and many in EU and where Crash may be less celebrated, but given that he's a game critic, he should know about this by now. He works for a website that literally does articles about as many things video games as it can cover, and his company should've let him be aware of it by now.

They can't be american military because he thinks the rebel vs. government is lazy. They can't be American Paramilitary because he thinks that is lazy. They can't be an American Gang or Mob because he thinks that is lazy. If an American badguy controls a group of people, he thinks that is lazy. If they are non-american he thinks its lazy. Basically, any force large enough to actually require fighting means you are lazy. There is literally no force worth fighting that Yahtzee would like.

+SirVaxel E'talin (Warning: this comment is unnecessarily long.) Not particularly this review, but in the first review he remarks that the game is essentially a white supremacist paradise because the enemies are non-white. I get it, it's a joke, but Yhatzee just constantly criticizes any game with non-white enemies or villains because it's all about "killing brown people" and only particularly praises games where white people (primarily Americans) feel guilt for killing all those "brown people" (Spec Ops the line). Here is the distinction for me, however. I concede that characters in the uncharted series are not very dynamic and interesting and that serious internal conflicts like guilt are indicative of more well written-characters, but that isn't really the point Yhatzee is making. Nathan does have guilt,specifically in this game (though not necessarily about killing), and an ATTEMPT at better character development, but he doesn't acknowledge it and is only willing to note that he's glad the enemies are whiter (South Africans and an American). He can critique the execution of the attempt of better development (which wasn't very great) and focus on the shift of Nathan critically, but rather he just says "the game is more about nathan but i dont care hes a cocky american but at least he's killing other americans!" Look, it's meant to be humorous, I get it, and it's definitely more funny to shovel in race/nationality jokes than noting the importance of actually constructing interesting protagonists and antagonists. However, if you want to be even more snobby in that aspect (like Yhatzee deliberately attempts to be) it's a bit of a cop-out for actual wit (ironically, he criticizes Nathan for the exact same thing). Just a little issueI had with his reviewing style. Cheers!
@chillbro1010

Bryan Cruz I think it's because he himself is not American that he misunderstands the climate in American when it comes to race and it makes his "jokes" seem a little fumbling and childish. I guess some people can't give up the "All americans are fat racists" jokes.

True. I was super in to The Last of Us, but had never played an Uncharted game, so I expected a similar gameplay-to-story ratio. Unfortunately, for me, I found Uncharted 4's gameplay to be very basic, and it was constantly being interrupted by the story. I never really felt like I was playing the game. I ended up selling it for almost full price after I completed it, so it was almost like a rental.

If you want to put an older game of yours in a new game as an Easter Egg, that's fine, that's cool, just make it an Easter Egg. Not a _mandatory section of the game_. And to top it off, you have to play it _twice_. Once at the beginning, and once at the end.
