Best way to set it up is to stake 3 corners and drop it down to the ground. It keeps the heat in and wet out. Poles for a standard military poncho should be 10 feet long.

I kinda like that. Not sure I'll work it into my life. But, I like it!

I cut myself a section of bug netting I can toss over the whole alpha tent with a good foot extra on each side , and a section of brown fish net with 1 inch squares as a camo cover to ad foliage too. With it's low profile and the added camo makes for a great stealth camping shelter. A bivvy bag would work too. But w I th the poncho and a liner if it was cold and raining it be easy to use them as a jacket after you tore down the alpha tent. ( you have to modify the poncho liner with a slice in the center for your head) . Saves weight by not needing to carry a coat.

Nice! Sounds like a fantastic set up. We're big fans of the Swag Man poncho system and whole heartedly agree on the weight savings this way. Stealth camping is a whole skill set.

I have the SRO Alpha Tent Poles. They are a worthy item to have, but they are made specifically to fit the Helikon-Tex Poncho, which is slightly smaller than the mi-spec version, with which the shelter lies nearly flat (It could still serve as a lean-to, but why bother?) . Nor does it fit the OneWind poncho. With the H-T poncho it's a good combination. You can get a bit more room inside by orienting yourself diagonally under one of the poles under the tarp.

Pathfinder is the gear from Self Reliance Outfitters, so sounds like we have the same poles. We have a member with a OneWind poncho. Going to have to venture a try with the poles and her poncho now. Thanks for the comment!

@@uncivilizedvitality I tried with the OneWind; it doesn't fit. But, good luck anyway.
