well actually its more along the lines of taking pictures of himself using super powers and selling them to a Newspaper that's dedicated to make him look bad cause of those super powers he has, its pretty damn pathetic really, earning from your own bad rep as a super hero, and not even enough to rent a house but just an apartment.

Yeah I looked it up on wikipedia, its was originally a quote not used by any characters but rather a caption in the older comic's last panel back in 1962. I would honestly like if this quote you got was actually in the comics, like some sort of alternate history stuff or something

I know the intention of the "May can handle herself" just being some wacky stuff about Ben not caring too much about her But I am completely sure she'd sell her soul to the devil, and then go to the horned beast and actually beat them in a 1v1 If there is a doomslayer to the Marvel universe, it is Aunt May.

I love how this short actually acknowledges that Uncle Ben never actually DID say the “Responsibility” line in the original comic. It was a narration box after Peter caught Uncle Ben’s killer that people always quoted. It was retconned into something Uncle Ben said later on. Edit: Ok so people are making a fuss over my word choice in the replies. Let me clarify. One way or the other, the idea of Uncle Ben being the one who coined the famous phrase was established later in Spider-Man’s comic history, and was eventually used as the baseline for famous adaptations like the 90s cartoon, Sam Raimi movies, and so on.

When you look back and really examine things, he's kind of a self indulgent man-child. For example, he mainly focuses on one responsibility that technically isn't really his as he's not a law enforcement official, or anything. He bails on friends and family all the time. He could probably do a lot more good just selling his web formula in a more permanent form. Heck, what does he do to "clear his head" when things get tough? Especially since just a few comics before that, he came to term with the fact that his aunt is going to die. Or, and hear me out on this, make a wishy washy pseudo philosopical bs story about an unborn daughter, with possible futures that will never happen and a faustian pact with the devil like it's freaking 1832, making Peter look like a special child, all the other chatacters like douches, MJ like a non entity and breaking decades of established lore just because you wanted to reset the title. How does that sound? (btw, not that anybody cares, but in Faust the demon is very open about the pact Dr.Faust is making, it even warns him to stop before it's too late. Spiderman is a Superman parody. Both work for a newspaper while having superpowers. Both wear red and blue. Nobody knows what Clark Kent is doing or what the Daily Planet is paying him for, or how much they are paying him. He occasionally answers the phone, and he seems to have acted as a bodyguard for some of his colleagues when doing field work, but most of the time he's not even in the office. But he has superpowers. Peter Parker has superpowers. He's a photoreporter freelancing for the Daily Bugle, he gets paid a pittance which barely covers rent and groceries. His free time is spent cooking up glue and mending his costume. He's a university dropout because arresting petty criminals doesn't leave him much time to study. He's not even a good photographer at first.

"With great power comes great responsibility" is a proverb popularized by Spider-Man in Marvel comics, films, and related media. Introduced by Stan Lee, it originally appeared as a closing narration in the 1962 Amazing Fantasy #15, and was later attributed to Uncle Ben as advice to the young Peter Parker. The expression's connection to Spider-Man's Uncle Ben was a later development. While Uncle Ben had only two lines in the original story, later stories and flashbacks set when Ben was alive retroactively made the phrase one of his homilies to Peter. The first mention of Ben saying the phrase to Peter was in 1972, when Ron Dante (of The Archies) included it in his album Spider-Man: A Rockomic. However, this attribution would not catch on in the comics for at least another decade. The earliest appearance of a direct reference to Ben telling Peter the phrase is the 1987 Spider-Man vs. Wolverine #1 by Jim Owsley, M. D. Bright, and Al Williamson. The first showing Ben saying this to Spider-Man was The Amazing Spider-Man (Ser. 2) #38 in February 2002. So yes, Uncle Ben actually did say that.

Well, that darkness thing cannot be true. Besides the obvious hell with Mephisto and such, when Doc Ock kills Peter, he goes to heaven and talks to deceased characters.

Actually, he DID say it. ORIGINALLY “with great power comes great responsibility” was the closing caption of the very first Spider-Man comic, but later stories and flashbacks made it clear that it actually was something Uncle Ben often said to Peter.

I'm glad someone brought up that uncle ben never said the whole "With great power comes great responsibility" line that's been bothering me for years now also some random robber spawning from thin air just to shoot uncle been got me way more than it should.

In the original comic, uncle Ben didn't say it, but it later was given to him and Stan Lee gave the thumbs up, so it's not true that he "never said that". He just didn't invent it

Pete should mentioned how many times he's saved the world, he surely would have scored some points on the Uncle Ben Meter. Then again, Marvel's Earth is in danger so many times a week I'd be shocked if Ben himself didn't save the planet at least once when he was younger. It's all relative and I'm just waiting for that retcon in the comics where Ben scolded an alien armada into leaving.

You know, it would've been really fitting to wait a couple of days and post this in November the 2nd. Although, the last joke seems to imply he didn't come to visit from the world of the dead, but was actually revived.

*Sees Ending* I see Strange basically has a personal vendetta against Peter if he decided to bring back Ben just long enough for him to get gunned down again.

I'm glad someone else said it, yeah the line comes from the end of the first comic when Stan is talking directly to us the audience. In iterations afterward he says it but in the OG run, we never see him say those words. Maybe it was implied that he did, but we don't know and that line didn't even really come back in that form for the first 50 issues. I mean they allude to it in Spider-Man no more but yeah, never said. Now because ASM writers are hacks that's the only lesson they bring up, and pretty much never anything else.

It's funny how the only people who stay dead in comics are Uncle Ben and the Waynes. Not even Aunt May is exempt from the infinite cycle of torture for our entertainment.
