Y2K was not a hoax. It was a widespread bug in many systems across all of our infrastructure. Any bit of code that assumed that years were between 1900 and 1999 would have had undefined behavior when it turned 2000. Y2K was not destructive only because many developers worked tirelessly around the clock to ensure that our critical infrastructure could handle the millenium change. Now people don't believe it was a real concern because the ones who worked to prevent it did too good of a job.

Had they not done this, their business would have been completely halted, and everything would have needed to go back to paper. Probably would have bankrupted them. If not for the tireless efforts of the IT industry, there would have been complete chaos. Not world ending, but definitely would have caused some major societal problems, and probably MANY deaths. Imagine waking up one day, and the entire banking sector is down. Money can't flow. Power systems failing left and right, and on and on... Y2k was definitely not a hoax. He was more of a sweetheart when it came to Bruce (while also being more violent then your typical 12 year old to criminals, he was both) Tim was more serious during his early years as Robin, but after his parents died and he finally let Bruce adopt him? Yeah lmao. I would bet on him, since he also has the computer skills to know how to. I can't imagine Damian doing this because he's usually more serious, especially when it comes to his father. But he would (if this was being done by the current Batbros) stand off to the side commentating on how stupid he thought it was while the others did it.

Was the point of zatana being there just to flex that you have a female voice actress but won’t give one to Wonder Woman??😂😂😂

Funny enough, something far worse than Y2K actually happened recently with Windows. Not to the level of insanity of war and stuff, but the legitimate technological fear of everything crashing millions of systems at once came true.

If you're talking about CrowdStrike: 1) Not nearly as bad as what would have happened if Y2K had not been addressed. 2) Simple rollback was enough to work around until a solution was available. 3) How that company still exists is unfathomable to me.

Y2K wasnt a hoax - it was a very real potential problem that was fixed before it happened because people worked on it
@mrsamaritan6881Ай бұрын
it was a hoax, a hoax that a lot of companies fell for and had their employees work overtime on a non-existent problem. It wasn't all wasted, they did clean up a lot a minor errors and bugs but they didn't "stop" Y2K because Y2K was never going to happen. It was made up to sell newspapers, they even admitted it.
@jvomkriegАй бұрын
Yes and no. Yes a lot of folks worked on fixing it and it was all sorted early. The hoax part for me was media and others in the US treating it like the end of the world is nigh when 90% of the world had already gone over to the year 2000 before the US due to how the international dateline worked. Living in New Zealand and watching the US media spin panic for a full extra 16 hours was hilarious, it was like the rest of the world didn't exist. (Which to many Americans i guess, is true)
@theeccentrictripper3863Ай бұрын
My mother spent untold hours fixing said problem. A moment of silence for the legion of people who carried out that drudgery without a single round of applause, they did their job so well people assume the very idea of Y2K was impossible.
@JoshWebster327Ай бұрын
You do realize the concept of y2k is that computers wouldn’t be able to turn 1999 into 2000 and that would crash everything.
@David-qi1ysАй бұрын
Yep. Had "99" actually rolled over to "00" it truly would've been end of the world, fire and brimstone type shit. Nor did the news networks spin it out of proportion with millions of people stockpiling months of food and water.

"During the first decade of the computer's serious invasion of business, when managers often decided their businesses needed computers even though they had only the flimsiest bases for such decisions, they also often undertook fairly penetrating systems analyses of their operations in order to determine what their new computers were to do. In a great many cases such studies revealed opportunities to improve operations, sometimes radically, without introducing computers at all. Nor were computers used in the studies themselves. Often, of course, computers were installed anyway for reasons of, say, fashion or prestige." (p. 34) Joseph Weizenbaum's "Computer Power and Human Reason: From Judgment to Calculation"
