Say hey guys our profit to cost ration isn’t working out right now. We’re going to have to charge more for the products!!! I have the “new” formula with old packaging but something told me it was off, it smelled really lemony and it was looser and it dried my hair out, the old formula was a little thicker and it worked beautifully….everyone thinking the formula change is no big deal obviously they don’t live in extreme humidity or extreme dry areas

I much prefer the old formula. I won’t be repurchasing this due to the change, it definitely did not perform as well under the high humidity conditions here in Florida. And frankly, I miss the old smell. I really liked the earthiness of the old one. I’m a sad panda.

I picked some up recently and didn’t notice the formula change until after I used it. It didn’t feel or smell quite the same and it definitely didn’t perform as well for me. As a Florida girl who deals with high humidity, the addition of glycerin so high up on the list kinda killed it for me. I’m contemplating tossing out the remainder or holding off to try it again in colder weather. Im so sad 😢😢😢

That was my main issue with the formula change doesn’t work in the extreme dry desert 🌵 area I live in, that was what I liked the most about UFD is that it didn’t have glycerine or protein

Lots of products have humectants in them. We focus on the glycerin a lot of times and try to avoid it, but we need to look out for other humectants that acts the same as glycerin like propylene glycol, sorbitol, panthenol, honey, agave nectar, etc. They do the exact same as glycerin in humidity.

I’m so upset by this formula change ugggghhhh!! This is a holy grail for me……time to write the company. My hair is so protein sensitive, whyyyyyyyyyyy?!?!?!? Just from looking at your results they seem similar, I think the old formula may be the winner, it does make a difference in how your hair feels too though, as you mentioned. Maybe if enough people complain they will go back to the old formula like Suave did 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for letting us know, especially since the company apparently wasn’t going to! Last time I used a gel with glycerin and protein in it, my hair felt so horrible I thought I had ruined it! I won’t even be tempted to try the updated formula of UFD. Guess I better savor the last of my old formula. I have been loving Ecoslay Orange Marmalade though, in part tried it because of your video on it so thank you for that too! I literally gasped and said "OH NO!" out loud when I saw the title/thumbnail. I recently fell back in love with this product to layer under a hard hold gel, because it gives me such juicy, shiny curl clumps 😍 I do like that they added protein though, because it sometimes made my hair feel a little bit damp even after it was fully dry, so I think it was too moisturizing 🤔 BTW I love the spring and bounce in your curls that the new one gave you, but agree that the old one made your hair look so shiny! ✨

Just curious what gel you layer it with? I bought some UFD back on the summer and didn't love it for my hair, no matter what styler I paired it with. I just recently bought some Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee and love it but it gives me super small clumps. Wondering if they would work well together?

@@crystalrapose6405 I've been trying it under the Curlsmith In-Shower Style Fixer and it's been super pretty, but I don't think that's the reason the wash day was turning out well and you definitely don't need to go grab an expensive gel like that one. I think the Uncle Funky's was the secret!! You might get similar results with the Biosilk so maybe try mixing a little of both in your hand to make sure they play well together, and give it a shot!

That’s me too. I just tried it for the first time recently and was not impressed. My hair was dryer and I had more frizz. Luckily I bought a travel sized kit on sale so I’m not out a lot of money. I won’t be purchasing it again, as there are much better products on the market for my hair.

I liked both “looks”, but lean more towards the “old” UFD wash day just because it looked a little shinier. I’m relatively new to the uhmm, Curly Girl Method. 😉 I started in April of this year, as a matter of fact, my profile pic was taken in May. I found your channel early on as I was desperately looking for guidance and allI can say is that I certainly found it with you! I have had a blast discovering my curly hair!! I have adult twin daughters and I have been helping them perfect their curls as well. I am so happy that I found your video! I've been using Uncle Funkys for 5 years and absolutely loved it. I noticed recently that my hair looks weighted down and my curl pattern weirdly changed. I looked at the bottle and YES it's the new formula. I'm a huge aloe vera lover for curly hair and now that aloe is no longer the first ingredient, I'm so disappointed. On the same note, I found an awesome shampoo, conditioner and hair masque with aloe as the first ingredient and it is the very best that I've ever tried. Would you be interested in reviewing it?

I started using Uncle Funky's about a year ago and recently ran out of my first bottle of it (I don't use it often) and I definitely noticed a difference. My hair is a little drier now when I use it, but as long as I pair it with a light leave-in then it still works great for me! I think my hair needs that little bit of extra protein and roughness to hold some shape for a day or two. I actually didn't even know that this wasn't a "hard hold" product until this video... I've been using it as my hardest hold product the whole time and just kept thinking 'i don't know how everyone else gets such a hard gel cast at all!' - rookie mistake 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm excited to try pairing it with a REAL gel!!!

I did a little googling and the rumor is that the formula was changed all the way back in 2014 and it’s taken them 7 years to update it on the bottles and their website. If that’s true, it seems a little shady and deceptive to me, and makes it hard for me to want to repurchase and support a company who wouldn’t be transparent for so long.

That’s a little bit scary considering that people with celiac disease have to really pay attention to using products with wheat in them. Hydrolyzed wheat protein was one of the ingredients not listed on my old formula.

Noooooo. I just bought a new bottle...UFD Curl Magic is a core product in my hair routine. I use a leave-in, UFD, put my hair in a towel then throw mousse into plopped hair & air/diffuser dry. It took me so long to figure out this combination of products & styling techniques. ok, now that I've freaked out I will watch the video lol :D Edit: I checked the bottle I am currently using & the bottle I just bought--yep, the ingredients are different. Idk if the protein will bother my hair much since I use so many moisturizing products & often add in conditioners & leave-ins with protein. I don't want to open the new formula to check the smell since I'm only about half done with my open bottle. Fingers crossed the new formulation works for me as well as the old formulation did. I don't want to have to start over with trying new stylers...

If you end up needing to find something new, my routine differs a little but fairly similar and I find that Curlsmith Styling Soufflé is the perfect gel. I still alternate with UFD occasionally, but the soufflé is by far my favorite as far as hold and results.

I'm very sensitive to fragrance & certain ingredients which greatly limits my choices in haircare, skincare & personal care products which is why formula changes can be a big deal for me. @yensid Honestly, I hate the scent, it’s very floral, but natural since it’s earth based. But the results for me make it worth it and the Cake mousse I use covers up the scent, it doesn’t linger at all. I’m sensitive too. Twist by Ouidad made me sick, don’t recommend that one!

I never tried the old formula and I only just tried the new one a couple months ago and I love it! I made a rookie mistake and didn't read the ingredients so I was mad that I bought a product with glycerin so high up (living in TN). But I've been downright shocked at how good it works in my hair! I've had dew points up to the 60's and my hair was pretty decent (like what can you really expect if it's swampy outside?) but when the dew points are 30 and below, my hair does get dryer. Last week I added a leave-in when I was particularly dry and that helped. We'll see if I can use it through the winter. I have 2a/b hair and I'm 20 months into wavy-girl method.

Given how simple the old formula was, you can just take plain aloe vera gel and mix it with some extract-based leave-in, for example the Kinky Curly Knot Today. I never tried Uncle Funky's Daughter, but I do this regularly.

I’ve switched to Ecoslay Orange Marmalade and have been loving it. My hair is super protein sensitive and I think glycerin doesn’t do well in my hair either. I used a gel with both glycerin and protein and it felt and performed terribly in my hair, I even thought I’d ruined my hair it felt so bad! But Orange Marmalade made my hair feel soft again!

The new formula is watered down (I say that bc water is the 1st ingredient which means the product is 70-80% water) & then comes the glycerin.. 😒.. Mine is the old, but not old, but not new..??… First ingredient is water, aloe, marshmallow, chamomile, nettle (first 5 ingredients in order listed on the bottle). SO WEIRD!! But I’m super sad. I am devastated! This is my product and it took me sooooo long to find. I live in a very damp climate on the west coast of B.C. and cannot do glycerine no matter what the dew point is. I couldn't use the original formula because it caused flash drying and made my hair tangle the second I applied it. I wonder if the new formula would do the same? Do you know if there's a travel sized version of this product?

Same here. I did find a travel sized kit at my local Smiths (Kroger), and that product was included. I didn’t spend much on it.

I am so disappointed in them, my hair is Frizzie with the new one, and I have 2 new bottles that doesn't say glycerine in the ingredients but it does have it. I can tell the difference when I did my hair with the old formula. They should be a shame of themselves for that

Uncle Funkys claims there wasn't a change in the formula but an update to the labels. They claim the oil, protein and glycerin has always been in it. I personally haven't noticed a difference.

I have an old bottle, I can attest it did not have protein in it. I don’t know why they wouldn’t be truthful.

Terrible! I definitely will not purchase. I’ve been using UFD for a long time too. I am so sad.
