That's a fine new engine you've got Sean, congratulations! That "flourish" at the end of a long whistle blast is typical of MTH PS-2 and PS-3 engines, the one's I've got all do it. And you may find this interesting, the US Army's Transportation Corps trained it's railroaders on steam (in addition to diesels) into the early 1970's. Steam was still common in some parts of the world so the Army's railroaders had to know how to deal with it "if and when" they ran into it. I'm not sure when they stopped. Fun video, thanks for posting!

Great looking MTH steamer, Sean. As always, thanks for the background on the model and the military train history. Really excellent military consist, as well. A great run of your collection for your fans to view. Thanks.

Fantastic looking engine, and military consist! You did a great review Sean. I love that whistle steam effect on the locomotive. Having that hole in the whistle so the smoke can come out of it really sets the bar that much higher than a hole in the body that Lionel produces. It angles the smoke and gives it a much more realistic and prototypical look. Love it!

Yeah, MTH did a great design job with that one. Not sure if they always have done that on their whistle steam but it is a great feature.

The design of the mth premier heavy pacifics I'm pretty sure are based on some of the older southern railway Ps-4 class pacifics. These had different pre heaters, baker valve gear, and smaller tenders.

Thank you for this excellent video. We enjoy seeing your fabulous layout. My Father and I also enjoy collecting the army cars, especially the troop carriers. My great uncle organized troop trains that originated out of Camp Kilmer, NJ during WWII.

For anyone wondering every mth whistle has 4 endings 1. (Immediate) regular whistle with echo 2. (Around 2 to 5 seconds) normally 1 or 2 short blasts after you let go of the whistle button 3. (Around 5 to 10 seconds of whistle) Normally 1 long and one short blast after letting go of the whistle 4. (After 10 or more seconds of whistle) Normally 1 or in a special case 2 long or medium blasts followed by 2 short blasts and the echo This depends from engine to engine . But two engines that are alike ( in this case we will use the pacific that’s in the video ) will have the same whistle combos. So anyone who happened to buy us army 493 will have the same whistle endings as the ones demonstrated in the video. Hopefully this clears some things up for the people new to mth ps2 or ps3 locomotives

I enjoyed your video nicely done. I do have a few recommendations to make your military train more realistic. 1. All vehicles should face the same direction as they are driven on and off. 2. Stay true to the era you want to model WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Modern. The majority of your vehicles are modern, the M10 Tank Destroyers, Jeeps and Duck are WW2. 3. Type of engine should reflect era of vehicles, steam engines pull WW2 and maybe Korea, everything else diesels. Also Military engines are mostly switchers road engines can be PRR, UP, NYC etc which pull the train to the yard on the military base.There are good videos on KZbin showing military trains of all eras. Your layout is also very nice.

One of my all time favorite train loads. Awesome engine. Try Stockyard Express for Army cabooses. They just came out with two special runs. One caboose is medical with the red cross. Both are premiere lines. Give them a call and talk to Clyde. 👍 I'm looking for one MTH premiere flat car with the double Sherman Tank load....I'd prefer to stay away from Ebay. Thanks Sean

Question. What is the Bethlehem Steel gondola with coils in the background at 330?
@seanstraindepot2 жыл бұрын
That one is out there now #2043132. Fair warning though, it came out of the Vietnam factory and has horrible trucks. Rough casting, sloppy couplers. So, I had to actually buy upgraded trucks and replace them.

Awesome loco and MTH has done that with the whistle at least back to PS2. And depending on how long you hold it. It will usually do different things. For example my PS2 prr I1 will do another long and a short if I hold it so long. Hold it a little longer it will do two shorts and a little longer still and it will do 3 shorts

Good to know. I found it by accident! It was not in the manual. I feel there are probably other things I am missing with DCS not documented.

Hey sean. I get to start over again with an even bigger layout and I definitely have a lot of inspiration from yours. I was just wondering if I do replicate some of the track and details from your layout, how many engines can yours run at once?
@seanstraindepot2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you don't want to use mine. It is basically one huge mainline. I can run multiple trains but that is only because I am completely Command control. But even then, I have to watch them. In other words, I can't run multiples unwatched since it is all one mainline. So, you definitely want to have at least 2 separate mainlines. Mine is this way because of the shape I had and wanting 072 curves and also lots of space for operating accessories. Otherwise, I would have done 3 mainlines. Good luck!
@truthz773522 жыл бұрын
@@seanstraindepot thanks for the reply I definitely want to run at least 2 but your detailing and designing is too nice not to get any ideas from
