Gotta laugh. We bought some doors to replace the rusted ones on my 63 Falcon. They turnes out be from a 2-door. Rather than return them we decided to move the B-Pillar. Only took us 5 years.

About 5 years ago, There was a 65 Chevelle around Greensburg Pennsylvania where the passenger side is a 4-door style and the driver’s side is 2-door style, I think both sides are hardtop. Pretty neat how converted driver’s side from 4-door to 2-door style. He also had steel wheels with hubcaps (low key look) on Passenger side and Craggar SS wheels (performance look) on driver’s side. Certainly a memorable car upon seeing it.

I saw something like that around 1968. It was a 64 Chevelle wagon with only one door on the drivers side and two doors on the passenger side. I think that it was labelled "Nomad". I lived not far from the Terrytown plant and there were a few custom Chevys around. I would not convert my 4 door Chevy's to two door because they are Nova Wagons. Good Luck, Rick

I’ll take the 4 door anytime. Shorter lighter doors, in and out of the back seat without fighting the front seat back. That’s part of why I was always a closet Rambler guy! 2 door, 4 door, hardtop or wagon, it makes no difference! Comfort, roomy, great lines, and reclining seats, it doesn’t get any better! 65 and earlier you can still find a flathead 6 that won’t smoke the tires, but will get stupid high MPG!

I started out with four doors, they were like a dime a dozen. Everybody was going after the two doors. Most of my 57s had four doors. That's Chevy Buick Oldsmobiles Pontiac, But most of them were cars that nobody wanted. Hell they would actually pay you to take the mopars. Having back doors didn't make them any slower. And I used to have fun coming up to the stoplight next to a jacked up 57 Chevy two-door with big tires ,loud exhaust ,bathtub on the hood. And when the light turns green walking away from him like he is in reverse in a stock 1957 Oldsmobile 98 four-door. As long as I didn't do anything stupid like hit reverse when I was trying to drop it into low or get the back tires spinning. There was a reason the engine was known as an Oldsmobile rocket. 394 cubic inch with three deuces. My first attempt at turning a four door into a two door, was with Mom 66 f85 wagon. I got into an accident with it and she didn't want it anymore so she gave it to me. Now Mom 66 Olds wagon was not normal. It was an oddity. She ordered it as she wanted it. In September of 65. It had a Oldsmobile engine to this day I still argue and fight over because nobody knows of its existence. I have actually punched it out with Mopar people over this. And I can prove it existed. For you old timers, grab the green Chilton 64 to 71. Turn the Page 707 that'll bring you up to where it says engine identification. Work your way down to the f85 engine identification. Find 1965 they offered three engines. The 225 V6 production code LH. The 330 cubic inch V8 production code U then the engine that I fight over that I am told does not exist. 440 cubic inch V8 production code W. So mom's little f85 had a 440 cubic inch with the quadra toilet, dual exhaust, and a 4-speed. And in Oldsmobile language four barrel four-speed dual exhaust equals 442. Mom was a dirty hot rodder from the late 50s who used to Cruise Woodward Friday and Saturday nights, racing from light to light. Some of my earliest memories standing between the bucket seats on the hump as mom is banging gears. She knew what she was ordering when she ordered this car. It ended up being a shorty station wagon. With 442 badges. I learned a lot about cutting and welding, grinding and the proper use of lead as a filler.
@01trsmar
@01trsmar 3 жыл бұрын
LOL.. NO!!! they didn't make a Oldsmobile 440 engine..your Mom had the 400 cubic inch with 345 hp and 440 torque!! That's 440 TORQUE not cubic inches... You relied on the 'Chilton" manual that's your problem,those are filled with mistakes!! Factory manual or just use nothing! GM with their cars,some were advertised with torque ratings or trim models on the air cleaner ..Like the Oldsmobile 442 had the 400 cubic inch V8 but the air cleaner said 442,so people thought its a 442 cubic inch powered Oldsmobile 442?! But it was the trim model.. Buick had Wildcat 445 on the air cleaner yet not a 445 engine! That's the torque,they didn't make a 445 V8! Like your Moms 400 cubic inch with 440 torque wagon,its the torque rating! Yep,takes a MOPAR guy to help "gm" guys out all the time..No need to thank me, I like to help the less fortunate!

@@01trsmar did you spend years trying to find any information you could on an engine you wanted to rebuild? I had a half dozen 442's through the years I wanted to put that critter in. And yes I can read a fucking air cleaner. Only to find the only reference for it in the Chilton manual? Then anytime that I mention it some smug know it all Mopar asshole comes along and tells me how wrong I am and how many ways I am wrong. Because I don't drive a Mopar.As if I haven't been doing this for the last 55 years. Like I've never owned a 61 Phoenix. A 62 lancer, 67 dart GT, 68 and 69 GTS. 1970 fartslinger with a 340 the 4-speed the air scoops and the bumblebee stripe. 68 69 70 and 71 chargers. And the 1964 barracuda. The 1967 barracuda and the 71 cuda.To name a few of the mopars I have had over the years. And I have a 1969 Chrysler Dart. Go ahead and tell me that there's no such thing as a 1969 Chrysler Dart. Mopar 440 if I remember correctly off the top of my head is a 4.320 bore and a 3.375 inch stroke. Do the math that comes out to 439.72 cid or to round it off 440. When I measured the bore on this Oldsmobile engine it was 4.195 that's not listed in the books anywhere. With a 3.980 stroke. That comes out to 439.52 cid . And once again to round it off 440. Talk down to me like I don't know my shit. My engine in my C-20 has a 4.005 bore and a 3.975 stroke. Do you know what that measures out to?

@@01trsmar I'm going out on a limb and say he's got a stroked out 425 or something like that. Because a) it would be a known thing B)you could produce a dealer option sheet. And C: gm isn't going to build a motor that would cost millions of dollars to produce for a station wagon. 🙄 I'll give him it maybe a ""440" but it's just not plausible for it to be production Actually I talked to a buddy , if you take a Olds 350 diesel engine you can mod it out to a ""440"" so it exists but it don't

I don't know if it even still exists. I went to a guy's house, who had a four door '71, that had a perfect windshield. It was out of the car, ready for pickup.... I did one thing that I'm glad now that I did- we compared the windshield on top of mine. It was NOT the same size! The two door windshield was wider! Both of us were really surprised.

My Uncle is presently building himself a "M Bird", M is the first letter of his name. He got a hold of a 49 Ford 4 door and has shortened it down to the length of a 55 T Bird. There is a lot of roof work as well as the 2 doors that needed to be made longer. He has been a T bird builder for a long time as well as Corvettes.

OK Uncle Tony, so here goes : ) I've been watching DD Speed shop for some time now & love the 4 door to 2 door conversions, however on his latest build, I suggested that he do something rather unorthodox with the build, which he apparently didn't like & obviously didn't do. I love his channel, but he is obviously much younger than you & still has stuff to prove : ) You on the other hand are in my age group & have nothing to prove & just want do crazy shit, just for the sake of doing crazy shit............ie the Miata : ) So, my suggestion will save you exactly 50% of the work & you'll certainly have the ultimate "Street Freak". .......................just convert the the drivers side to the 2 door configuration, so you'd basically end up with a 3 door car, kinda like the late 60's early 70's suburbans. I'm pretty sure you'd have the only one out there. Food for thought for those with nothing to prove to anyone. Oh & by the way, I love your channel as well : )

.. This mere discussion absolutely PROVES that there is a huge OBSESSION within a LOT of old car fans.. of preference for two-door cars. This obsession is so strong that many of them would rather have a two-door SEDAN than a four-door HARDTOP..... and many of them don't even know the difference! Originally, two-door models were made for the manufacturer to offer a new car at a slightly lower price --- the only reason!

The 67 to 69 Valiant was not offered as a 2 door hardtop, it was a 2 door sedan only. The Dart was offered as both. There was a true 2 door hardtop Valiant offered in Mexico, but we did not get them in the us unfortunately.

Graft the back of the front four-door door to the back of the two-door door and you'll be able to use the repositioned four-door post unaltered... Follow me. ?? (You COULD make the doors as long as you want) That should leave you enough left over window frame to fill in the gap created..then you use the rear door (and window frame) to create the new quarter panel. (Two door panel wagon project later, maybe..??)

Tony, I think it would be rather cool to have a 4 door street freak but that is just me. This video did give me a good idea, find a pristine 2 door car and convert it to a 4 door.

In the early 1980's it was possible to get a couple of 4-door Tercels, cheap collision write-offs hit from opposite ends, and weld one decent car to sell to a guy who didn't ask enough questions. Likewise, maybe somewhere there's a good back half of a 1968-ish 2-door sedan, OK from the B pillars to the rear bumper, but hit a tree fast enough to relocate the front bumper near the firewall. Grafting that remaining back half onto Uncle Tony's 4-door front half would be a lot less time and effort than the surgery described in this video.
