Love how you are explaining that coatings aren't bullet proof 🔫 A lot of people are given a quick sell that the coating will last blah blah years & it doesn't because they weren't told they have to take care of it, so they think that coatings are a crock. All because they weren't educated on what needs to be done. Great job Phil👍👍

To be honest, that's why I think many detailers are simply going to a good spray applied coating. Maintenance for any type of coating would be the same. "Clogged" coatings due to road grime, lack of maintenance, etc. is the same not matter what you use.... So if you just simply spray a coating every time you wash and maybe once a year, do a quick one step polish and reapplication of a spray coating...your car will look awesome. I find myself doing this also....but we tend to overthink the process. I know the characteristics for a vile coating is much better in quality, but the gap between the two is narrowing. Something to think about. Lastly, the wheels are always thought to be the most aggressive on coatings when it's the spray from the wheels on the body panels that causes problems with coatings. thanks for a great topic !

Hi. This was the first vehicle in all 10 plus years of applying coatings. This vehicle was simply not washed since it was coated. Unfortunately thats what happens with any type of protection...wax, sealant, doesn't matter, maintenance is extremely important and necessary. But yeah If after having a conversation with a customer and they admit they only use car washes, or they don't want to wash it regularly, then i usually try to talk them out of a coating and just sell a polish and ceramic sealant instead. Wouldn't be worht the money for them.

I email my detailing clients a coating care guideline (I also put a picture of their car/truck on it to "personalize" it) with the limits of a coating, how to properly wash their coated vehicle, what to look for when the coating isn't performing as well as it should and links to buy the products to maintain. I also offer to get it for them, using my discounts. I also offer my clients coating maintenance, pricing based on their vehicle.

Yeah for people who don’t know how to take care of their vehicle in the first place it’s not worth it. Many of those people just think it’s bullet proof and get upset when it doesn’t live up to their expeditions…when it’s their own fault for not caring for their their vehicle properly. For those people we suggest a quick polish and sealant.

Hey Phil! Could you do a video on what to do when you have an old ceramic coating and want to completely strip and restart the car. My dad bought a car a year ago with some form of ceramic coating on it. Most of it has failed but I don’t think it would be correct to put a new coating right overtop the old botched one. Thanks!

Hi. When we re do a coating I’ll definitely go over that process. Basically just polishing it again with a medium foam pad and polish and do a paint enhancement will remove any remaining coating. You don’t have to compound it aggressively.

Phil, thanks for another great video. I've been able to learn a lot and appreciate the help you've provided. I have applied diy ceramic to my daily drivers and was thrilled with the initial results. After regular washes, I noticed that the coating began to fade at about the six month mark. At first I was thinking it was the product, but after watching this, I think it's my approach to maintaining the coating. I have started applying a topper and the water beading has come back. If I understand correctly, should I be using a rapid decon on the weak areas and then apply the topper as part of the maintenance? Am I missing anything? Thanks, CB

Hi. I have done that before but I want the full force of the tar remover to work and not be mixed with any other chemicals. Same goes for iron remover. I like to do each step and not mix them. I find they can cancel the effectiveness of the chemicals to work.

Is it true that carnauba waxes are better at resisting etching and water spots ?
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing Жыл бұрын
Hi. Not from our experience. Nothing can stop water spots from etching if they are left there on the vehicle. True protection helps minimize its initial impact, but constant washing and protection or having your vehicle under cover and away from sprinkler systems is the only way to ensure that. I know, it’s annoying. Nature loves to destroy our stuff. 😅😎👍🏼

Question. My wife's black suv was ceramic coated 2 years ago with Ceramic Pro and they did an annual maintenance 10 months ago. It's parked outside in the drive way and I maintan it, hand wash it with most products you use, d.i. water, etc. Why do you think the hood of her suv beads water so tight that they don't easily sheet off? Does that mean it's clogged? The rest of her vehicle sheets pretty well but the hood suddenly got my attention. Is that normal to bead so tight that it doesnt sheet off right away?
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing 2 ай бұрын
Hi tight beading is how a ceramic coating is supposed to react. That’s actually a good thing. You can flood the panels with water and it will sheet off also. The sheeting usually means it’s a little clogged. Flood the paint with a garden hose or the pressure washer with the tip removed and use the water like a blanket on the paint to sheet the water off.

Hello Phil and Jess. On the basis that Ceramic Coating can be attacked by nature as much as say a wax or sealant, would you say for a daily driver that Ceramic Coating only advantage is longevity. It appears Phil that the main advantage of Ceramic Coating is on a vehicle that is used rarely. Maybe for a daily waxing every 6months then using a topper when doing a maintenance wash is as good.
@MirandaDetailing
@MirandaDetailing Жыл бұрын
Hi. Yeah I mean it depends on many factors. As long as you’re washing and maintaining the vehicle with a coating it’s awesome. But even waxing and sealing a vehicle on a regular basis you will get the same results, it’s just more work then maintaining and coating each time. I guess people have to weigh the pros and cons and decide for themselves what makes sense to them.

Some tires simply have that color or bloom so much that’s it’s impossible to get rid off. It’s ok though. As long as you cleaned them and dressed them it’s fine. Tires are one of things that will be replaced every few years anyway.
