Great video. It will be one I will recommend to as many people as I can to show them how to properly care for ceramic coatings. In the UK and north America, not enough importance is given to mineral deposits and their affect upon coatings beyond the look of water spots. As you have shown, after road film, it should be the first consideration why a coating may have slowed down. Too many people think a coating has died and bad mouth it when it is just smothered in almost invisible minerals OR the common attempt to revive coatings with toppers on top of these deposits, eventually creating a stratigraphy of minerals and toppers killing their coating. Your video is so helpful to show how well a clean coating can perform.

As an sucker for coating, I love to test and enjoy the waterproofing of coatings more than what they give, and I have found out that after just having a car sit for weeks in bad weather in rain, plants and nature nearby, I notice that the coatings last on on the parts on the sides such as the doors than on the top birds eye view of the car(it’s due to low angle as water is less likely to stick), as it normally gets the most damage, for example I used Meguiar’s liquid wax on a car and in one weeks time of only sitting, the top boot part was not beading, but where the badge bit is where it’s mostly covered by the spoiler, it still beads to this day and I think it was 4-5 months ago which is crazy, so this video is very useful for showing regular maintenance helps maintain the coating

Some things I'd like to emphasize; If any of you have a coating that's still supposed to be performing well but you have large areas (usually horizontal panels) that are "clogged up" so to speak and aren't beading like they should, even after thoroughly decontaminating the paint, try giving the whole car a nice wipedown with an acid scale remover. (Sandro pretty much covered this in the video) That's been my go-to when a coating is clogged, even if it doesn't visually have water spots. The acid will give the paint a VERY deep clean and in my experience, revives the coating back up with insane beading, amazing gloss AND slickness. You shouldn't be doing this mega often, just as needed. The most important thing to keep a coating lasting as long as possible is washing it often! Letting dirt build up is what kills any protection, including coatings. If you wash your car religiously weekly, even if it sleeps outside, you'll get many years of strong performance from your coating. It'll last longer than you can hold in your craving to polish the car. If you wait months in between washes always, your coating won't last too long. What a coincidence, I also have a coating on my daily (since 2019) and I'll be polishing it off and applying a new one shortly. I had told you back when CQuartz SiC came out that I'd do the UK base with the SiC top but I ended up putting it off and using those coatings in other cars. Now I've made time for my car because the horizontal panels had been etched with SOMETHING (idk what, I live in a crowded neighborhood with bad neighbors) I was afraid cuz the paint looked very dry, but it polished right off and I sprayed it with reload while I wait for my Gyeon Syncro Evo to arrive in the mail. I was surprised at how easily EVERYTHING came off with just a light polish with perfect finish and a rupes yellow pad. Literally a flawless finish with only a few imperfections like rock chips and a little section of a deep scratch here and there. Can't wait to try out the new Syncro. If it beads like the original but doesn't last just 6 months and instead at LEAST a year, then I'll be happy with it. Thanks for the entertainment Sandro :) Had many more things to say but I've already made an unacceptably long post hehe.

Wow what a great complete video on how to maintain a ceramic coating on a car. Your explanation is excellent, thank you very much for this video. I personally think that all the preparations and polishing are the most important for the shine. The advantages of a coating over a wax is longer and slightly better protection, but it is worth the $3000 if you cannot do it yourself. If you have enough money of course, otherwise you could perhaps also opt to wax the car twice a year?

Sometimes I may be just wanting to address fallout/metal particles specifically- which is what iron-x is best at. Other times I may be wanting to treat iron and traffic contamination as well as strip older waxes/sealants which Purify is better at - addressing more broad contamination - as well as being able to use it as a clay lubricant.

@CarCraftAutoDetailing2 жыл бұрын
I think the main thing is not to allow the water to dry as that’s when spots occur, so you could get away with use the DI water fur the final rinse if you keep re-wetting during the process, but on really hot days it can be hard to avoid so you may want to stick to DI water in those circumstances.

As always, very informative and well produced video. Couple questions: the alkaline soap before the acidic soap is a great idea for periodic maintenance washes and I’ve been doing this for a while. What about a pre detail wash? Alkaline snow/acidic bucket? Or x2 alkaline? I’m coating a car that lives outside soon. I note you say do not put anything on a fresh coating for 24/48hrs and nothing heavier for a month. Plan was to put Boost on 8 hrs later before sending it back outside and then Jet 30 days later. Perhaps not ideal but lesser of two evils applying Boost so quickly?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing2 жыл бұрын
I think if you’re dealing with both traffic film and mineral deposits then an alkaline foam follow by an acid hand wash would be a generally good way to go - but that’s really based on what the maintenance contamination on the vehicle is. If you know the vehicle won’t have cover after it’s coated then Boost 48hrs is the lesser evil, if you can try and IR or UV cure it as much as possible before hand and I think Jet a month later will be a great option especially for a car stored outside.
@rover13742 жыл бұрын
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing I agree in terms of the washing! 48hrs does make sense, I’d just be worried about rain in those 48hrs with unpredictable weather here these days. Also, In not being able to wash the car it may be a bit dirty to Boost after being outside for 48hrs 🤷🏻♂️ no access to IR but depending on the weather I guess it will get a fair bit of UV curing!

Hey Sandro... another great video that gave me the motivation to carry out a decon clean on my Nova Evo coated amarok using an alkaline snow foam and iron removers in the wash. I was expecting to see the inproved coating properties after each step and instead I have seen that the coating has all but disappeared after the wash on the middle to lower panels of the car. The coating was applied in october last year (following the processes in your video) so have only seen approx 5 months of durability, I am a DIYer but very thorough (at least i thought so). The car is a outside parked daily driver but very well cared for. Wondering if you have any insights on the breakdown of the coating as it seemed to fail suddenly primarily on these lower (admittedly dirtiest) panels.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing2 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry to hear that mate, but it does sound like it’s failing if the deep cleaning didn’t revive it. It’s really hard for me to say why as there’s so many variables that could be the cause. I’d personally try putting something like Nove Jet on top and seeing how that goes over the next few months as sometimes it can help in repairing and reconditioning a coating, but if it just returns to the same state then it unfortunately means the coating has diminished.

This is very strange because it seems to stain the coating, feces of other birds of another type does not stain, but this specific clay that looks like a coconut with pee leaves marks, have you seen that?. thanks
@CarCraftAutoDetailing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, but I can’t say I’ve seen that specifically, though I have seen boo or bat pop more generally etching coatings certainly. It sounds very annoying, but I guess the only thing to do is try and remove it as quickly as possible, but also try and take comfort that the coating should really prevent it from etching into the paint, so that once you’re really to remove the coating, those stain will hopefully come off with the coating itself.

@CarCraftAutoDetailing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks and generally Essence Plus’s filling and sealing finish will inhibit the coating over the short term which is why it should be topped with a hydrophobic spray sealant/coating a few hours later. But the general idea is that when Essence Plus and that top sealant diminishes a few month later the coating’s behaviour should come back if the coating itself is still in good order - but this unfortunately isn’t always the case with older coatings and it’s always a bit of a gamble.

It is still the same mate what do you recommend I do to bring this hydrophobicity back? I am taking the shonky business to court regarding the terrible job he did on my vehicle. He will not give me proof of product he used I asked and paid for the premium Graphene Ceramic Coating. He will not give me his warranty as I have tried to take my vehicle back because of it losing it's hydrophobicity. When washing the vehicle like you showed Sandro letting the mitts and product do the work no pressure from day 1 the cloths have dragged over the surface not gliding nice and smoothly as a ceramic coating should allow. Keep safe and keep up the great work Sandro thank you for your help.

Unfortunately it sounds like the coating itself has failed, so I would be surprised if this process would help as this is really about reviving a coating rather than fixing a failed application which generally requires removing and reapplying the coating.

my car is in the curing process. I understand to wipe off bird poo or bug splatter with hot water or a ceramic spray during the period. but what about bee poo (the small yellow orange dots). should I wipe that or leave until my first wash? is it worth the contact....

I won’t worry too much about some random bug poo but if it’s a lot then yes I would tend to remove it

That's really good maintenance advice, do you think you can apply the same principles over a PPF ceramic coated car?

Thank and yes you can, but I would expect the PPF to be even easier to maintain , but the same principles apply.

Sandro, another magnificent video, I have watched 4 times already 👍🤗. This is my favorite Alfa, I wish it was available in the states. As a professional detailer I hate to show my ignorance but my question is this. I understand alkaline (high pH) soaps I use plenty of them for all the purposes you mentioned but I'm not sure what you meant by an acid foam wash (low pH?). Can you recommend a brand and soap that you would consider to be the acid wash foam that may or may not be available here in the United states? I would really appreciate it.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing2 жыл бұрын
Thank you mate, and the acid wash abs foam I used was Carpro Descale which is certainly available in the States. Here’s a video I did on it a little while ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnyciqB3rqugedE

hey! awesome video as always. i have a question. i got my car ceramic coated and its first wash is due after 2 days. but unfortunately there was rain in my area and now my car has drops all over it and they also dried up on the car. i am worried whether this would damage the ceramic coating or leave water spots. should i really wait 2 more days for the first wash ?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing Жыл бұрын
I would just give it good pressure rinse down (with using any detergents) to remove any dirt, blow dry it and then just a quick detailer (maybe one made but the same brand of your coating) to hopefully remove the water spots. If you get to water spots quickly they are generally far easier to remove, and the first week or two after a coating has been applied is always when it’s most susceptible, so it’s best to try and avoid or deal with water spots quickly during that period.

Bought a used car with ceramic coating, but it has swirls all over. I’m guessing that’s under the coating? Would a good polish and compounding get rid of everything, and then re coat it?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing3 ай бұрын
Yes, a compound and polish will typically remove the coating along the the swirls/defects and you can re-coat at that point.

Hello my friend, should the alkaline shampoo always be used before the acid shampoo where that is of little importance?. Thank you in advance.

Hey Sandro, thanks for the video its really helpfull to me! I have a question: Carpro and Gyeon state that after you apply a new ceramic coating you also apply a layer of a spray sealant (such as reload) to "protect" the coating during its curing time. Is this a good idea to do or leave the coating without any toppers during its curing time ? Isnt reload then not masking the coating its performance even though its recommendend by the manufacturer?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing2 жыл бұрын
I would try to avoid using that top coat during the initial curing stages and only use it if the car is outside during bad weather, but even then, I tend to use something like Reload at 1:1 or 1:2 water if I had to.

Thanks Sandro! What are your thoughts on rinseless washes? Are the better than a good quality soap?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing2 жыл бұрын
I think rinse-less is a great option when water, environment, and logistical challenges are present but it does have its limitations especially when a vehicle is extremely dirty. A pressure washer pre-clean just has so many benefits is safely removing dirt before a physical hand wash that just can’t be overlooked. If the vehicle isn’t all that dirty then rinse-less or water-less can be a great option
@RL-ju9ye2 жыл бұрын
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing thanks Sandro! I’ve been bouncing between the two methods and haven’t found it to be more efficient outside of skipping the rinse after washing the vehicle. Just curious what your thoughts were.

hey bro. my mrs is getting a new car and the dealer is going to put a ceramic coat on it. i got it for a really good deal compared to the original price. But ive already told them i wont take a shit finish. This is going to be fun. so just wondering what you think of dealer ceramic coat applications. PS its so refreshing to see a detailer drive a very well looked after car.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing2 жыл бұрын
I’m sure there’s a few dealerships out there that provide great ceramic coatings, but unfortunately 99% of them in my experience are appalling and basically cheap low grade products applied by employees that unfortunately don’t have the training to know how to do it. It’s something that really hurts the car coating industry and the detailers that are doing the right thing.

This is a scenario i look to many washes down the track and want to know about those little details! Thanks Sandro!
@CarCraftAutoDetailing2 жыл бұрын
There’s always at least some masking in the short term with anything that goes over a coating, but a good well performing coating will tend to reject and remove it much quicker compared to applying it over bare paint. The main benefit is that it helps the coating underneath age better with sacrificial layers being applied from time to time and if those products also have great hydrophobic abilities there shouldn’t be a negative performance effect.
