:Exploring Abandoned Anything can be dangerous or Deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, i seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks & responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. Their could be nails, Asbestos, Falling concrete soft floors, animals or other hazards. This isn’t really dangerous, BUT this is NOT to be done solo. The largest danger is hypothermia. Even falling in the current and bouncing through the pipe, will just bark up a person some. But once you get severely cold, you might not even be able to get up to pickup. Hopefully he has a buddy with, not something to do without a “spotter”!

Speaking with very little knowledge, so I may be completely wrong, but I thought that lodges were always built in the flood pools created by the dams and not on the down stream side. By building their lodges in deep pools with the only entrances well submerged they have great security from land based predators, and they are effectively windproof so that enables the beavers to maintain at least a minimum of heat while bringing up their young. No doubt an expert will shoot me down in flames. . . .

Great video Post. That roadway may have a sign erected someday. This is where the beaver developed his new damn building techniques. After years of being educated by Post. These dams are now protected. No longer an access road but provides plenty of hiking trails. BEWARE OF THE BEAVERS! They may be hazardous to your health. The only trail in North America where steel toed boots are a must. ♥️🪵🦫🪵🦫🪵🦫🪵🦫♥️. Do hope someday you get a full time job with the DOT from the surrounding states and get to work transferably from state to state when and where your expertise can be utilized. Side by side with the escavators developing new insight into confounding the beavers. Hope not a silly thought. 🤗🦫🪵🦫. Where beavers go, dams will be built.

I feel like an axe would be a good idea, too. It can be used to weaken a dam (or any other log and stick based clog, for that matter) before pulling it apart, and it can even help there, as well, as axes, too, can be used as hooks.

Those long, straight logs with cables attached may have been a foot bridge from upstream that floated downstream as the water backed up behind their dam. Also, why don't you think about getting a cultivator hook? A short or long one could save you lots of bending over and reaching into cold water. Keep up the good work.

Excavators need to innovate. Attachment on the bucket - a claw on the end of a long rod, 12', and a way to adjust the length it protrudes forward from the bucket, probably a camera too - to aid the viewing from the cab to the out of sight view. push the rod in, drop it down, and drag back.
@13Nagash13
@13Nagash13 2 жыл бұрын
i was thinking a pointed pole, that has 4 spring loaded arms that push open. can use a threaded rod and bolt to limit how far the arms open, to match culvert size. so push pointy end through dam, arms open on far side of dam. connect pole to chain, chain to excavator. machine power pulls, and the opened arms snag the majority of the dam, and drag it out of the pipe without damaging the pipe like a normal excavator bucket does.

EVER THINK ABOUT RIDING THE CLOGG? MAYBE IN JULY? RIGHT ON DOWN THE PIPE INTO A LARGE SWIMMING HOLE. DANGEROUS SURE BUT THE MASSES WOULD LOVE IT. CHEERS BOSS.

So how many other people sit yelling at the screen to just move the log to the left or keep pulling, its going! So much fun to watch and as a participation sport! What we want now is a video of the beavers building the dams then post deleting it, a before and after shot!

Beaver dams have a "grain" resulting from the way a beaver lays on sticks and mud with the sticks generally parallel to the current and the beaver usually adds to a dam on the upstream side so you need to dismantle a beaver dam in reverse order working on the upstream side to peel off the layers of sticks and brush and mud. It would be better to use a mattock as much as possible to protect your hands. Excessive exposure of hands to cold water can cause Reynauld's Syndrome with persistent numbness in the hands plus the pointy ends of the sticks are very sharp and can cause puncture wounds. Even with hip-waders creeping hypothermia is also a serious health hazard plus beaver ponds are invariably infested with parasites such as Giardia. My neighbour would partly dismantle a beaver dam and the sound of rushing water would attract the beavers and he would then shoot them as they approached the breach. He would let the dead carcasses sink in the water and decay and bloat and float and this stench would encourage the other beavers to leave. Long-term solutions to excessive beaver populations are to encourage predation by larger mustelids such as otters and fishers and also by wolves. Encouraging conifers to grow such as cedars also reduces the food supply since beavers do not eat or even cut most conifers. Btw, beavers are not at all "smart" but they have very strong instincts which are well-adapted to their environment and they are very, very persistent.

Wow. That was so satisfying. Great camera angle in the beginning. Amazing when that whole chunk came free.
