I like watching the creators on KZbin marketing the new products but I also really enjoy videos like this that reinforce using what you have. I understand that some are making a living doing this and that’s ok. I appreciate your pointing out the things that you do, I think sometimes we get so caught up in needing to have it all that we forget we have a lot already! I love your tips and tricks and always enjoy watching you create.💕

Love these cards, I totally agree with the ,"use what you love and have" Fast Fashion has entered every avenue of our lives, it does not bring joy nor does it do anything but create FOMO. I had fallen for the allure and realized that when I went and purged my art supplies, I had stamps that had never been used and wondered why did I waste my money and buy them in the first place. I'm fortunate to have some disposable income but I have become very tight handed with my money since declutterring my home. I was amazed at how much money I had at the end of the month to move over to savings. Getting rid of excess has been freeing and what's left is now being used.

I am so glad I watched this video. You have inspired me to get off my butt and play with my supplies without worrying about what other people may think. I have not been having fun with my card making supplies for a while and yet I have continued to purchase the next new things each month (a craft supply buyer). I am going to have some fun tomorrow just playing with ink and seeing where it takes me. Thank you for this inspiration.

Love the cards, Lindsay! And the message is great. TBH I went through a full-on card making phase a couple of decades ago, but it was too overwhelming for me. All the CHOICES!!! What stamps to use, what sentiments, what font goes with the image, what color ink pad, whether to color the stamp in or not, what kind of background, what color paper for the border layer, whether to even have a border, making an envelope to match, whether to line the envelope or use scrapbook paper, trying to match the theme of the liner to the card or making the liner from scratch, decorating the envelope, what color ink to use to address the envelope.....and don't even get me started on the embossing and embellishments.... I realized that it was too much for me, so I let that crafty obsession go. I do buy cards now and I am MUCH happier about it because it leaves me time to quilt or knit or watercolor! Also, I can make simple watercolor cards that are just my style. So, yay me! Sometimes it just takes some experimenting...when you experiment, you find out just as much about what you DON'T like as you do about what thrills you. Thank you again for a great video! Have a great evening!

I went all out (well, "all out" for me), a few years back, and bought embossing powder and a heat tool and all these inks and stamps and stencils. I'd been watching way too much of...K Werner was one of them, but I can't remember the other woman's name! She's Greek. Anyway, they do amazing, intricate stuff, so maybe that's why I wound up finding it way too tedious and overwhelming. So many fiddly bits, having to cut things out and glue them separately! I just stick to painting an image on the front of a watercolor card, now!
@rtd1791 Жыл бұрын
@@veryberry39 Vicky P is the creator I think you are referencing. Do not ask me to spell her last name. She has designed dies for Spellbinders now and has an enormous line of inks, stamps, etc for one of the larger craft companies that now I cannot remember the name of. American Crafts? No. Pretty sure it was one of the European brands that has an entire stable of designers. Studio Light? Yeah. Cannot remember. I ended up thinking that there wasn’t anything particularly innovative and that I had some version of everything in her line. I did buy one or two die sets from Spellbinders. I like being supportive of creators I admire, but I’m not totally crazy about it.

I use to make a lot more cards when I had a lot less. Then I started watching KZbinrs that had all the latest and greatest. I started buying more things and realized I wasn’t making much anymore but I had way more things than I will probably ever use. I stopped watching some KZbinrs that I really liked, but it tempted me to buy too much. I only occasionally buy things now and I’ve made more cards since. I like watching you and even some who are Stampin Up demonstrators but who say use what you have. That’s what I try to do more of, and I think I craft more and it makes me happier. I liked your cards today.

Thank you Thank you Thank you for your words about all the feelings you get from being a card maker, watching videos of cards on KZbin etc... I always feel guilty about what I've bought, and not used... etc... but I still find joy when I've finally accomplished a card or two (even if they take me FOREVER to do as I keep changing my mind, being a perfectionist etc...). Funny though last weekend I needed a card really quick (as the person who the card was for was already in my home)... I threw a card together in 10 mins using scraps etc... from the past ? 5 years probably. Didn't have time to "record" it with a photo or even write handmade on the back. IT WAS A CUTE CARD!!!! You always make me smile and let me know... I'm okay and "normal". Jenn

I love that you encourage people to be creative with what they have rather than pushing new products. I often pull out an older stamp set and then search for ideas on Pinterest or You-Tube and get creating. I used to watch haul videos and watch You-Tube cardmakers using new stuff - but I just got so tired of it all so in the past 2 years, stopped watching videos that pushed new products. I reckon I spent more time watching those types of videos than actually creating! I use my old stuff and things that are not on-trend and just enjoy making my cards. Still using my Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder and brads LOL!

I have watched this, then listened to it as I wrote out Mother's day cards. You have AMAZING advice in here!! After 2 years where I bought 2 or 3 stamp sets total, I was getting sick of my supplies. A friend hasn't made cards for years. She used to be a stampin up demonstrator. I bought storage and now have most of her supplies. 2004 to 2007 are the most common dates. I am LOVING the new variety. I used to find wood stamps challenging. A LOT of practice has changed that. Her and I have similar taste. I feel like I won the lottery!!! I love the tip about simplifying your paper. I'm a sketchy hobo with scissors. I have finished 67 birch press triple layered cards for Mother's day. For the last 40 or so I switched to 12x18 white sulphite paper from Dick Blick. I cut it into roughly 6x6 pieces. I started cutting 3 layers at a time, and I inked the die cuts. I was SO MUCH HAPPIER doing it this way!!!!!!!! I found my joy! Colored cardstock, except for black and kraft, are being phased out of my craftroom. This means used up and not replaced.

Thank you Lindsey for that information. This is so true what you're saying and not just with card making but with many other hobbies I quit making cards all together several years ago, because I could not keep up with new products coming up and "craze" going around that this is a new product now and you absolutely must use it because old methods are out and if you don't than you're not progressive enough. And it is not just people on KZbin but some that you meet in workshops or "friends" with same passion. And so I've lost the motivation and willingness to make any cards at all, despite some other people telling me to keep making them because they absolutely love my style... I think I need to watch your motivational video few more times to get my confidence back and awake my passion. I hope that will work. Thank you. 💜💙💚💛🧡

I love your card making videos, what a treat! I am slowly passing along some of my supplies to my daughter in law, because I recently made some cards with her, and to my delight “she’s hooked”. I’m hoping that this will help me pear down my over abundance of supplies. She has nothing but what I have given her so far, and initially letting go felt so freeing. Yet when I saw you reach for your memento dew drops I couldn’t help but wonder if I should have held on to them. Of course realistically I know that I have TONS of ink and haven’t reached for those in years. I’m trying to remind myself that those inks will now be cherished and used instead of collecting dust. I haven’t thought at all about the other supplies that I shared, gelatos, Van Gogh paints, spare fiskars Trimmer, an extra score board, Tim Holtz Stamp positioner, various markers, pattern paper, but the mementos.... need to get better at letting go! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the inspiring video!

Hullo Lindsay, I am finding that I am even more enamored with you and your philosophies every time I enjoy your videos. I remember when I had to convert to a digital workflow to stay employable. I had to give away my watercolor supplies, because every time I struggled I would go back to my watercolor boards and paint. I simply could not learn the computer programs that I needed to with that crutch in the closet! I am so glad the pendulum has now swung back and traditional artwork practices or if not involved at least not relegated to the trash heap. I know of some art studios graphics studios that work traditionally and scan to get into the digital workflow, something I was not allowed to do at the design firms I worked at 100% digital or go home! I do hope this comment finds you well happy and finding joy in the things you create. Thank you I will go find some joy myself, now have a lovely day!

I do have a full set of distress oxide ink pads but those and a couple of versa fine pads are the only ones I use. I can pretty much create anything I want with the supplies I have. The only thing that I ever felt like “I got to have it because Lindsey uses it” is my scan and cut and I got one off eBay for the fraction of the cost. It’s a old model and that’s fine.

My niece keeps all my cards I send her! so when making cards before you put your heart and soul into the making, think about the actions of the recipient!

I understand what you are saying, however, I feel you have to expect some people will trash them eventually. I don’t care what people do with my cards. It’s the enjoyment I get from making them and making someone smile with a handmade card. Just my opinion. 🙋🏻♀️
