Stock Guzzi exhausts, whether La Franconis or especially this beautiful ($2,000) Arrow exhaust, sound pretty great as-is. Far from quiet, even my stock 2013 V7 Stone with La Franconis has a nice low burble. Quite frankly, this mod sounds terrible and destroyed a $2,000 exhaust system. The Italians know how to make a bike, even a slow one, sound great. I can't even imagine the God-awful droning racket this thing will make on the highway as you're riding it. Ear plugs mandatory. This is the kind of meatball-surgery I did in my garage when I was 15.

Agree, also lower pipes are handier with panniers and pillions to not burn their legs. Since there is 0.0002% mud in Europe it has no sense to have a high pipe. Like the jeeps with bull bars who ride everywhere exept in Australia itself. They ride small japanese. (budget friendlier, and smaller in width) handy on curved roads because of water which runs off.

I agree, I purchased a Stornello due to a great opportunity, I really like it, it is fun to ride, however it has been modify as described in the video and it is way too loud for me, the ear plugs are mandatory, now I'm looking to put back the original part wich has been cut off.

Nice job! I have 304/1000. What about performance after uncorking? Is it more stable at low revs? Is it breathing better and thus smoother?

Thank you for making this video. I am curious if there is a drone sound when at steady speed such as 50 or 60 mph. I’ve heard people complain that when they made their exhaust pipe so that it made the motorcycle sound like a motorcycle that at cruising speeds it could be annoying or too loud. Did you find this to be the case?

I know this is a few months old now, but do you remember what Piaggio/Guzzi calls their tune mapping for an uncorked Stornello? A part number would be fantastic, or just a general idea of what to look for ("offroad tune", "race tune", etc.).

Cool, thanks for the super-fast reply! If you have a second, one more question: Now (half a year later), have you noticed any issues with heat or lean-running? I've heard that these bikes run SUPER lean with the stock tune, even with the DB-killer in place.

the end cap. Second pipe in their that the baffle slid into. You're not changing any of that by removing the baffle.

No subsequent issues with performance or backfiring? Doesn't affect the tune? I have the no. 217 Stornello and I want to punch mine out, but want to ensure there aren't any unexpected consequences. Looks like you have a good business. Thanks.
@FlyingTigerMoto
@FlyingTigerMoto 7 жыл бұрын
Mike Terrill it won't backfire anymore than it does now with the baffle, you'll just be able to hear it. I'd recommend having the latest flash from your dealer and enjoy!

I did this exact mod to my 2016 V7 Scrambler and I LOVE the sound, but it absolutely does backfire a bit on deceleration. I have not updated the tune and have no plans to do so, as overall performance seems fine.

soderstadion77 - still no issues. I’ve updated the tune since my original comment via the Guzzitech flash tool. Upon uploading the tune, I did develop a flat spot during acceleration. Went back and forth w Todd Eagan and he got me sorted out. Still LOVE the sound!

Mike Sydnes Thanks, good news though you finally did upgrade the SW. So you had some issues with stock tune? or why the upgrade? I know guzzitech, *everything* seem to need that flash tool there. I am on the other side of the pond so no Todd stuff for me : /

I have v7 and do u know how i get abs and traction control off?
@FlyingTigerMoto
@FlyingTigerMoto 7 жыл бұрын
For a modern V7 traction control is turned off by pushing the start button after it's running. AbS is turned off by a willing dealer and the pads tool.

I have found that this modification kills your torque curve. I suggest gutting out the CAT "Y" pipe and leaving the baffle and muffler as-is. After the CAT material is removed from the "Y" connector pipe you'll get a much better sound than stock that isn't obnoxious. (Better performance too.)
@RafaelGonzalez-bw1wb
@RafaelGonzalez-bw1wb 3 жыл бұрын
really? I had planned to make the same modification, could you give me more details? Thank you Donald
@plimoth
@plimoth 3 жыл бұрын
@@RafaelGonzalez-bw1wb remove catalytic material from Y pipe. You will also need to remap the ECU. Guzzi tech sells the tool. $500. Before doing anything I strongly suggest changing the stock spark plug and boots To NGK. This made a huge difference, much more power. Contact Hamlin cycle in Connecticut for parts. If you need part numbers let me know.

By reducing back-pressure most likely the fueling is further leaned. These modern air-cooled engines come fairly lean to begin with to comply with EPA standards. Without a dyno test nobody would know for sure, but most likely the client paid to worsen performance at the altar of "cool sound", not to mention giving Mr Law an excuse to give a hard time.
@FlyingTigerMoto
@FlyingTigerMoto 7 жыл бұрын
1. A simple map update from Piaggio clears a lot of issues. 2. The "client" is the person typing right now, we had a very good conversation with Arrow and Piaggio/Moto Guzzi about this modification while at the Austin MotoGP and decided to uncage the bird and let it breathe. 3. Mr Law has more to worry about in STL than a Guzzi with a mild sounding exhaust. Thanks for playing.
@marcosagosti6175
@marcosagosti6175 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks FT for the reply. Obviously the answer is country dependant. Piaggio will not update any map in countries where sniff tests are done as part of annual certificate of roadworthiness (eg Spain). Update as in "new fueling map for your modified exhaust or air filter mod". They just re-load the original one and clear error codes. And, if they detect you have been hampering the fuel map with after-market software, one may lose the warranty. Anyhow, enjoy your ride as it does sound better.

@@plimoth , that can be said about most scrambler style bikes. Harleys were do it all bikes for the first 50 years of their existence. Almost any bike can go off-road. It is how much are you willing to beat on it, how fast you are wanting to ride, and how skilled you are that matter. The better a bike is off-road the worse it will be on the street. Tradeoffs.
