There was a 4 wheel drive version for the army. It had a large ground clearance. I am not sure, but, even though this was unibody design, the 4 wheel drive version had a separate chassis.

Maybe it was not the Soviet GAZ Pobeda M20, but its licensed variant, produced in Poland, i.e. the FSO Warszawa M20 - it is geographically more likely, because the GDR bordered directly on Poland.

@@rarerussianrides You are wrong. It was made by license from USSR. Don't jump to conclusions. It was made in FSO in Warsaw. FSO WARSZAWA M20 model.
