In November 1985, Israelis were launching regular RF-4 recon flights over Lebanon with the objective of monitoring the Syrians. Syrians on the other hand, were trying to intercept the Phantoms, mostly using their MiG-23s. But Phantoms were well escorted by F-16s and F-15. Usually, the fighters from two sides would briefly meet after which they would turn for home. Israel mostly avoided chasing the Syrian MiGs as they were returning to their airspace. On 19 November 1985, this would change and a pilot who was already an F-15 ace would get a chance to increase his score. Apart form that, the F-15D airframe famous for landing with one wing only participated in the fight.
DCS World Syria Map offers a great chance for historical reenactments that take place on their actual locations.
