Movie Geek 1. I never said its a perfect movie. No one did. So I don’t know where you’re getting that from. 2. Stop liking your own comment to make yourself feel better. That’s just kind of sad. 3. I didn’t ignore any “flaws”. Those are not “flaws” those are your claim of “criticism”. 4. Not every movie is about character “development”. The character of howard is portrayed as a flawed man and the movie deals with obsession. You have no idea what the power of gambling does to someone, and this movie portrays it subtle and brilliantly. Watch the movie again cause it clearly went over your head.

This always felt like a 2 hour panic attack. I mean, the first 3 minutes begin with Ethiopian miners and Chinese businessmen fighting over each other because a miner got heavily injured, and the tension gets higher and higher. This is without a doubt, one of, if not, the best thriller film of all time.

This movie has a visual aspect that I miss on current movies. That classic panavision 70mm texture that for some reason, was used masterfully through the 2000s just before the digital cameras took over. Have no idea if that’s what they used for this movie but it brings a nostalgic element that I certainly enjoy.

I really loved Keith Richards (Phil’s character in the story,) especially for a first time actor he really fleshed out his character with his given screen time. Even though he only pops in every other 30 min or so to press Howie for money, but he had a shady vibe or aura about him, one that I couldn’t have expected him to have pulled the gun at the end which made it kinda exciting for me at least. His natural New Yorker voice and accent too, is awesome, I want that snub nose he used on Howie! Safdies really did a good job of integrating so many elements into this gem like intensity, anxiety, horror, even throwing comedy in there to lower our panic, only to pop it off at the end.

I seriously hope they keep making films in this exact same style...however as artists I wouldn't be surprised if they avoid this kind of thing again. I was actually very surprised to see this, as the successor to Good Time, was so damn similar in terms of pace, camera work, soundtrack etc...it could easily work as a double feature movie.

Even though it’s not really a comedy. Adam Sandler screwing people over and him trying to pick up the pieces is really funny and stressful at the same time.

this is one of the finest movies ever, certainly Sandlers best and defiantly his Oscar performance. the twist of the ending is on par with the departed. an excellent film. to not even be nominated when so many agreed? its why i dont pay attention much anymore.

The fact that Adam Sandler DIDN'T get an Oscar Nomination for best actor shows how two faced and blissfully out of touch the AMPAS really is. They actively HATE the movie going public.

In the beginning: Wow, Howard is being proper and respectable but they treat him like this! He's really strong and they're bullies! Eventually: Now I know why. 7:05 Even when it's a serious movie, Adam makes people laugh. Also, I wasn't mad at Phil because I know that Adam wanted him to slap his character in a really realistic manner.

Can someone (who’s seen this) explain the backstory of the Michael Jackson pendant. Weeknd is seen in pic with it on Julia’s camera. Howard then sells it. (How’d he get it?) Flawless later asks for ‘my Michael Jackson pendant back’ (what was Weeknd doing with it?) did Howard hold it for Flawless and Julia let Weeknd rock it for a video or something....it’s confusing
