I hate all this disrespectful revisionist history. No one said this stuff at the time. No one said his competition was weak. The jazz swept prime shaq's lakers in 98. And that Phoenix team was stacked in 93. Jordan's play and the Bulls defense was just too much

I keep saying this- they're either butthurt, young, lying propagandists, or all three. This is the cancel culture society we now live in. They don't have morality, hate the thought of having to have morals, and therefor they embrace immorality as their weapon of choice in destroying what others have built. Any NBA player or fan who would dare imply ANY of the legends were weak, let alone MJ, will never have my respect, unless they grovel in public, begging forgiveness for their maliciousness and foolishness.

If you’re comparing Jordan’s run vs 80s quality of opponents, there’s no denying it was weaker with the introduction of 5 expansion teams and the void left by the 80s superstars. But to say “weak” vs the years mentioned with Lebron, yes that’s false.

Imagine if after losing back-to-back to the Pistons, Jordan said "I'm taking my talents to Detroit...oh and Chris Mullin is coming to" and then only wins 2 titles in the next 4 years with that superteam. Lebron forfeited any claim to the GOAT crown after going to Miami. his only legitimate title was with Cleveland, and even that has the stain of the ridiculous Draymond suspension (who would've been finals MVP had GS won)

Exactly, youre absolutely right; and LeBron fans always complaining that he had to face "dynasties" in his career ... well thats only James fault, he is the one to blame because of that, he wasnt able to build a dynastie like Jordan did from the ultra grave like with the Bulls. He had 20 years to so, instead he jumped to join the super teams to win titles. Even Bryant himself was born in a cradle of gold in the Los Angeles Lakers, surrounded by the most dominant center and the most powerful organization in the NBA and who took even the winningest coach and champion phil jackson with them. Its like Jordan would have started in the NBA playing alongside Hakeem Olajuwon. Or arrived in the Celtics to play with Larry Bird ... what about that? Thats why Magic Johnson and Kareem are overrated, because these are 2 top 5 suposedly all time best players, but, who played in the same team? What would Larry Bird would have done with Wilt Chamberlain? Kobe Bryant also had Jordan, Magic, Jerry West, as mentors, had all the media, the referees (they were gifted the first 3 titles), Lakers fans from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, the biggest sponsors since day 1 and all the LA showbiz. If you don't win with all this, you have to be an idiot Even O'Neal ... why didn't he stay in Orlando Magic? How easy it is to go to Los Angeles where the table is set. So those two are overrated. Look how he destroyed and abandoned Penny with his move to go to the Lakers. Watch as James left Cleveland again to go to the all-powerful Lakers where the table is always set. He complained that the Warriors were a dynasty... well hell he had 15 years to build his dynasty in Cleveland!! Where were the Warriors in 2003, 2006, 2007?

Oh but then they get after KD for doing the same thing lol worst fan base ever.

@@jlo8862 Bro, stop. Cavs weren't winning in 2015 with or without a healthy Kyrie and Love. It might have gone 7, but that Warriors team wasn't losing a deciding game at home. Kareem was 43 in 1991 and had been retired two years. Why you're bringing him up is beyond me. Maybe you meant Magic? Regardless, he played 40+ every game that series and dropped 20 assists in game 5. Worthy didn't re-injure his ankle until game 4 after the Bulls had already taken control of that game and the series. You're reaching. I could also bring up Ray Allen bailing LeBron out in 2013 or Draymond getting suspended for game 5 in 2016 just to even things out again, but that would be pointless. I was just talking about Wallace. His rim protection was sorely missed in 2007 and the Pistons lost largely because there was nobody big enough to deny LeBron the lane, particularly in game 5.

He has always went against a weak conference. It wasn't until he was in the Finals that I agree is competition was tough....Despite beating Butler's Heat with no top 100 players and Mavs with a single All-star Dirk (kidd was old stop). It's an unpopular opinion but LBJs 2007 cavs team was built around him. Had 3 spot up shooters a long with a big that played outside of the paint in 2007 when bigs played in the paint. If james would've played with a real big, the paint would be crowded. He had spot up shooters because he needed the paint empty. When he drove you couldn't guard him 1v1. So when someone went to help it would leave for an open guy. Which his team lead the league in 3 point percentages in 07. That playoff run he knocked of my wizard squad and his shooters showed up. Switch him with 06 kobe and put him on that laker squad them Kobe wouldve taken Cleveland to the championship in 07. Meanwhile 06 Lakers wouldve missed the playoffs.

Jordan made those players better. That's the cloak that no one sees. They just believe those guys were all good. Jordan held back his play to give them the ability to have progress as players. That's why when players talked trash to Jordan, he played like Jordan and dominated. It's basketball. You have to play as a team.

The whole "who did they play against" narrative is something people use when they can't use actual skills of a player for their argument. This is what Lefraud fans have to do since Jordan was better on offense, defense and better in clutch moments plus the postseason.

All I say is this. Modern NBA players have no prayer against the 80's-early 00's era of players. In comparison, modern players would be CRUSHED! MJ's Bulls would dominate, Karl Malone & Kohn Stockton's Jazz run over em, The Bad Boy's Pistons or Ewing's Knicks would murder them on court. And then I have not even mentioned how Hakeem's Rockets, Barkley's Suns, Robinson & Duncan's Spurs or Shaq & Kobe's Lakers what harm they would do to modern players Modern NBA can't play defense, can't take a mild body hit and don't dare play tight cover. All they can is shoot. That's it.

MJ's 89 and 90 run were as impressive, if not more than Lebron's 07 and 18 runs. He put up absurd numbers (36/7/7 on 51% fg) and carried his teams to the East finals and was only stopped by the Pistons. They won 2 more games against the Pistons than anybody else in each of those years, and they may have won the title in 90 if not for the Bull's colossal choke job in game 7 aside from MJ. And before anyone say Pippen, the guy was a role player in 89 and was inconsistent against the Pistons in 90 (he was offensively inconsistent even after 90), and was leading that choke job with 2 points on 1-10 FG. MJ's 46-point game 3 win against the Pistons in 89 and back-to-back 40+ games in 90 are never talked about, but imo even more impressive than Lebron's game 5 because MJ did it against the eventual champions. In both 07 and 18, the Cavs were swept in the finals and gave the eventual champions the easiest series of their title runs, and you can add 14 Heat to that as well. That means Lebron's team was only a top 2 team in 7 of his 20 seasons (6 if you count the Spurs in 2017), while Jordan's team was top 2 in 8 of his 15 seasons (I'm even counting the Wizard seasons). Really put their finals appearances into perspective

Yeah the Heat team is pretty evenly talented. But I do believe Jimmys mentality and Spirit is what’s carrying the Heat. You see how all of his teammates are following the narrative of jimmy leading them. And jimmy ALWAYS using WE. So performance wise, no Butler is not carrying them. But Butler OVERALL DEFINITELY is carrying the Heat

If the cavaliers had been in the Western Conference, then it would’ve been very difficult for LeBron to get to the finals. There were many years where there was nobody in the Eastern conference. For Michael Jordan, and if you can get through gray teams, like the Celtics, Orlando, the Pacers, the Knicks and the Pistons. The Eastern conference was like the Western Conference was in the LeBron era. I think that it would be interesting to look at how many times each player either defeated, or was defeated, by the eventual champion. If LeBron was defeated by the spurs in the conference finals, it really isn’t any difference than being defeated in the finals. In making an argument for MJ, he stayed with one team, and his team became a dynasty. as part of that dynasty, he was the MVP every time the Dynasty won a championship. He was also scoring leader, and first team, all defense during the period of the dynasty.

KP's comment really makes me wish Inside the NBA was covering the Finals because I would love to hear Shaq & Barkley's reactions to their Magic & Suns teams being called "weak competition". I'm sure this would've riled Kenny up too considering his Rockets won 2 championships in that era (even if those were the 2 years MJ was playing bassball).

I have nothing against MJ & Bron, but if we compare their greatness i wud say we shud take note of Kobe. Kobe sustain much more hardship in his game since he is always clobbered by 2 if not 3 defender most of the time but still made those baskets in gracefull style. The league envied Kobe that's why he was cheated of his rightful status he really deserves . Hypocrycy works even in sports . How ' bout giving the deceased the title of " ICON" if you can't give him the title of GOAT. Kobe improved the illustrious career of MJ.

I love the fact that you brought up stat % of team, it is the only way to really compare players of different eras. Because of the faster pace due to lack of defense, the average game score is higher now than it was back then, so players now have a better chance of having higher stats than players from 80's/90's.

It's not about whether the competition is weak or anything. Each era has rules that can limit and allow all players to show their talents and skills. That means, it is fair to all players and they all have a chance in the world to prove that he is the best in that era no matter what era they play. And the best player of his era is considered the GOAT of that era. Then, the GOAT of every era with the best personal and team awards that above all considered GOATs of different eras means, he is the real and true GOAT.
