You need to calibrate level with the nose up slightly at about the cruise speed level flight angle to prevent it nosing down during launch. It WILL launch just fine in stabilized mode. this goes for pretty much any fixed wing stabilizer/fc.

I know this is an older vid, as always a great review. However the procedure and some of the info on the Kopilot is a bit skewed, maybe it wasn't clear at the time, and you probably have it all worked out now. I use the Kopilot on my AR Wing right now, and it works great. The one thing is you need to let the GPS lock happen in either RTH or stabilized mode when you plug in the battery. If you fire up in manual it will not lock onto any sats, but it will arm. So the danger there is you may be able to launch in manual, but once you switch to RTH or stabilized it will then look for sats mid air, all the while you think it will take control, which it won't till it locks. This could happen right away or take time to find its location. This should happen on the ground before you launch. The RTH mode does have a launch assist. Plug in the battery in RTH, let the sat lock happen, it will now arm the motor and you will see the control surfaces twitch. This means the board ready for the launch. Switch off your throttle lock, and bring your throttle stick up to 80-100%. Your motor will not spool up. As you throw the model the sats and board will measure movement of 4m/s and spool up the motor to your throttle setting on its own, stabilize your model to level on the roll axis and start to climb into the RTH circuit. This is a safety feature which lets your hands clear the model before the prop spins up. At this point you do have throttle control all the way down to 50% but you will not have control surface control. This will keep the model in a RTH circuit at an altitude of 35-70 meters till you switch to either manual or stabilized mode. At this point you will fly like you would normally. Another point is if you are in stabilized mode and you notice you get unwanted climb or decent then you need to readjust your neutral calibration. If it drops, prop up the nose a bit in you neutral calibration process with something that will increase your angle a few degrees, this will tell the board what you want level to be and it will correspond in flight. The same will go for the adverse, if your model climbs, then do the neutral calibration with something to prop the tail up a few degrees. This may take a couple tries to dial in. If you get it dialed in you will be able to launch in stabilized mode as well. If your model is well balanced you should not see a difference in level flight switching from manual to stabilized mode, it should be seamless. This is just an add on to your video, just to get the more accurate information base to this video particular video. Again great channel, great reviews, and awesome gear. Keep it shiny side up and thank you.
@theoztreecrasher26473 жыл бұрын
All good info - except for "If you fire up in manual it will not lock onto any sats." Not true I'm afraid. As soon as power is supplied to the GPS puck it will search for and acquire satellites. (May take quite some time on the first time up at your location.) The warning about not taking off before you have a valid satellite lock is golden though! If you fly off in Manual before getting lock the RTH point will be wherever the plane was when the valid sat number was acquired. Best practice is to switch to RTH mode after powering up Tx and plane. When you have a valid lock the servos will twitch and the ESC will arm and you are ready to go. Remember to put your throttle up from 0 and disable your throttle cut if you want to use "Autolaunch."

Hey I really would like to know a good reason to use fence mode. It seems like it would be good for a plane with landing gear, so you can throttle up and it should get to altitude. Idk if that's what it's for but there's zero videos of anyone using it. I have a bunch of 3d printed planes and I still suck at taking off. Bought a second kopilot so I can try to this bf109 from 3dlabprint
@dronecamps2 жыл бұрын
Fence mode is in case say your do t want it to fly over a neighborhood or near by government property? 🤟🏻 I mean depends on where you live.
@theoztreecrasher26472 жыл бұрын
"Fence Mode" is useful in that, for a small plane like this, that maximum Fence distance is more than you will be able to comfortably see and operate the plane. Also, if set for "Fence" the plane will fly as for "Stabilized" but bounce off that wall into RTH mode until you move your A/E stick. Then you will get normal control back. In 'Manual" or "Stabilized" you can still fly out to the limits of your Tx signal when it will failsafe to RTH. BUT you should note! The plane will NOT latch to RTH! . In other words at the boundary of your signal range it will continually switch between RTH and your Tx selected mode. If 'Manual" you'd better be ready for it! Select RTH/Fence to bring it home. You CAN Autolaunch from the ground by accelerating in Stabilized or Manual then flicking to RTH/Fence/Autolaunch but you would need to manually use rudder before switching and hope it stayed straight at speed before lifting off. ;-)
