There was so much to truly appreciate about watching and learning from your video. Watching the process of creation was so engrossing and the fact that mindless chatter was not a part of this video was a real treat. Having the opportunity to concentrate on the application of the colors, cutting and placing the stencils, really, the entire production was mezmerizing. Thank you.

Thank you so much for sharing your process. Starting with dark clay and then adding light slip to be masked with stencils is brilliant, as is painting detail over the masked parts. I'm inspired to work with dark clay again (after stopping due to the clean-up involved!) and try this technique myself. Beautiful work!
@Vsmithpots

The earthenware clay makes a nice warm ground then the slip helps pop the underglazes so they have some body instead of being like watercolour.

I'd really like to see the whole process from beginning to end... The paint to the glaze - Would help me understand your method of strokes and colour use. So excited to see this video! Why were you using a yellow slip? Was it Underglaze? I am very confused. Lol. Gorgeous work!!
@Vsmithpots
@Vsmithpots Жыл бұрын
I use a layer of slip over the red clay because the underglaze colours will pop more over a lighter colour. I usually use yellow because I like the warm layer under the next layers but you could use white or even a medium or dark slip but it will affect the layers that follow. So the slip is the first layer then use underglazes on top.

@@Vsmithpots if the çlay was a light color would you still use slip as the first layer, or could you just use underglaze?

if you were using white bodied clay would you still coat the base layer with slip?
@Vsmithpots
@Vsmithpots Ай бұрын
This is Vaughan answering, Jackie likes red clay better and coats with white slip and sometimes yellow slip. The red clay adds depth to the layering of colour. We tried white earthenware clay but it was not working as well.

Could you just leave the stencils in and let them burn out?
@Vsmithpots
@Vsmithpots 9 ай бұрын
That would leave an air bubble under the layer of slip or underglaze, you can chisel away the slip or underglaze but that takes longer than removing the stencil.
