This movie was probably the best unexpected gift I had in Cinema. I went to the theater with some friends expecting the classic "car-robbery" movie, due to the false guiding trailer, just to do something on a Winter Sunday night. Then the movie began, and since the first (magnificent) scene I was totally blown away. When the movie was over, I told my friends "this movie is gonna be a Cult in few years". I know Drive is such a meme at this point, but it really is a great movie. The extreme escalation of violence and the certainty of The Driver in his actions to protect what he holds dear. In nature, humans and other animals posture in order to avoid actual violence. We tend to puff chests or fight without actually maiming or killing each other. What stands out in Drive is how absent this is. We get an inkling of the kind of background The Driver has, and the deadly serious nature of being tied up with a dangerous, but largely unseen criminal underworld. There is no room for posturing. The Driver is unwilling to risk Irene and Benicio. There is no hesitation or question of enemies and situation, only extreme retaliation.

if you want to take that theme to its ultimate and final destination, the film Irreversible is your only real option. this film is not for most people, in fact very few. it explores the unhinged brutal violence within many of us if released. i wont spoil anything except to say that the film runs in reverse so be prepared for a brutal experience right up front. again, you cannot unsee this. fwiw, the director of Drive consulted with the director of Irreversible to determine how to portray the violence in this film. you are warned, so make your choice.

I haven't even seen this movie but it's influenced me in a huge way. I find that when I can't cope with being around people who don't care about me or I feel out of place or out of touch, it's fine to just walk away and wander minding my own business. I've noticed that those quiet times when I'm not thinking or talking, just walking looking right past people, nobody seems to hate me or make me feel like something i'm not. It's easy, peaceful to be the quiet guy sometimes.

Avishkar Singh the weird thing about the main character ( Ryan gosling ) is that we don’t know virtually anything about him we don’t have a backstory on him or where he’s from or who his family is or friends like honestly we don’t even know his name but he’s so captivating and that adds to his mysterious persona
@avishkarsingh7444 жыл бұрын
@@colbycovington6073 good point. What I also like about his character is that it isnt your typical superhero type which is about things like superiority or machismo like you will find in these marvel comic movies or in a fast & furious movie. Rather his character is one of selflessness & humility. Look at how he does nothing on purpose to show off superiority, how he tries to help Irene's husband even though he was just starting to love Irene, how he left the "dirty" money behind in the end and didnt return to Irene just to keep her safe from his world. His character portrays the qualities of a REAL hero and hence the main theme song in the movie, Real Hero by Electric Youth. This is the kind of character we can all live up to hence another reason it's such a good movie. Everything comes together well in this movie making it a truly unique movie, and not your typical "James Bond" type action movie

She went on about how great it was, but the only thing she'd reveal about the plot (beyond him being a getaway driver) was that "his intentions were so pure." I finally watched it years later, and it stuck in my head, bad. A few years after seeing it for the first time, and many more times since, I'd probably describe it the same way. His intentions were so pure. "Drive" is named after the noun, not the verb.

are you kidding me? I say Desire last night and completely missed the fact that they contributed to the soundtrack of this movie, that I love.

If the soundtrack alone or the character Irene in the movie was what made him think of you, that means he’s in love with you 100%.

This movie was a Karmic “driver” in this life.. a spark of something primal, deep within... everything “important” thrown away for Hades... gorgeous destruction.. torturous and real and orgasmic.. brutal and burning.. everything that seemed to be the thought “I” was... crumbled to ash.. welcome ego death.. a singularity of surrender.. a blossom of pain/ pleasure crushed and laid bare across all time and space... the exquisite existing always and never... love you always and forever and never for the pain and beauty and blissful surrender to the awe..

This song makes me think of all the good times in my past, and how they are over. But it's okay because I still have so much ahead of me.
