I had a mapped 320d compact 5 years ago and regretted selling it, literally just bought a 316ti in black as a daily, great looking car in my opinion, fold rear seats down and bags of room, love the pop out rear windows, drives great

I got a 2001 316Ti with the 1.8 N42 as my first car. Handles well and was good fun in the winter. The only thing I don’t like is the front end. Needs the same nose job as the new M3/M4s do.

I 100% agree best looking beemer since the e30. I own a 330 swapped ti with a 6 speed manual that I plan on sticking an HX35 turbo on in the near future. Grab one while you still can dude, the price is already starting to creep up!

I’ve got a factory 6 speed 325TI Sport (only sold between 03-04) in Imola red with the contrasting dark red leather and I absolutely love it. Had a factory special order facelift MK1 Leon as my first car aswell. Such a great looking car

The e46 m3 had the getrag 420g semi auto manual gearbox, the 325ti came with a lower getrag variant in the smg setup on them. The getrag 420g trans is a very expensive gearbox

mapped 320td 6 speed will spank a 325ti and get 63mpg on a motorway cruise. (source, i have one)

I had one 2004 E46/5 when I was still a single dude. I had it for three years. Good for two people but Great for one dude. Really small trunk, I had one third of my luggage on rear seat and one third on passenger seat when travelling with it around Europe. So much fun on snow and wet slippery tracks, however still Very nice and cool on highways. Absolutely great make, zero bodywork issues, zero usual electronic or small item issues etc. Never had any of those typical E46 sedan/estate rear suspension hardpoint issues. Really strong rear assembly. I have heard rumors about E46/5 been originally designed as a platform for a specific BMW track racing body which never fully realized irl. Can anyone confirm for or against? I mean this car was super well made. Edit, sorry for typo, 2004 not 2007.

I did a bit of research - I don't think the racing body theory is true. I can't find any mention of it and it's just on the same platform as the e46 3 series so there wouldn't be much benefit to using a compact over a normal 3 series to develop a new body
