The thing is, as you watch Asgore say that he has committed these monstrous crimes... the fact that he's calling them crimes in the first place is evidence that there's some good in him somewhere. He practically begs the player to attack him and kill him. Because that would be a sense of heroic justice being done. His impatience is where he still believes that not killing him would be more torturous. As though living with the guilt is the worst kind of agony, being unable to go back and change it and thus stuck with the evil path. As though refusing to fight and letting him live is a truer evil, because you enjoy his suffering in his guilt. A true evil has no guilt.

I know people tend to harp on Underfell for being '2edgy4me', but the existence of this AU actually raises something of a quandary: Can you be merciful to the merciless? In the vanilla Undertale, it's easy to want to spare the monsters in the game because they're not bad people. They're good hearted and kind characters who are only fighting you because of circumstance. The only objectively evil character you can spare is Flowey, and that's an appropriately difficult decision because, unlike all the other characters, there is serious doubt that he even deserves your mercy. Now take Underfell where that doubt is placed on the entire civilization. Suddenly it becomes a lot harder to justify your pacifism. Suddenly it becomes near impossible to justify not killing anyone, not even in self defense. It's like Flowey says in the main game: What will you do when a relentless killer is after you? In the main game, that only really applies to Flowey. In Underfell, it applies to everyone.

(Jageshemash) You raise a very insightful point there, and if I could provide an honest response, I would try my hardest with most of them, with Undyne, Papyrus, Sans, Toriel, Mettaton, Muffet and Alphys. I would try to spare tehm all no matter how hard it was, because they're not really bad people deep down. They're just twisted and warped by a terrible situation, only exacerbated by the 'leadership' of the monster king himself, who forces a Darwinian 'only the strong survive' world onto them just for the sheer hell of it. Speaking of him, when it comes to Fell Asgore, I'll be honest, I would kill him, I would, after all I've already befriended/helped reform all the other significant leader figures, so the way is clear for someone more stable and a little more lenient to take over from their tyrannical predecessor and maybe repeal the 'kill or be killed' policy. I know Fell Asgore can be saved, but honestly, I wouldn't go to the trouble, I would put that sick fuck out of his misery once and for all. If he wants me to fight, I would fight him to the death if it gave his people a chance to better themselves with a new leader. What do you guys think?

For all the "edginess" of Underfell, I find it very interesting. Undertale is meant to upthrow RPG norms by framing you as a psychopath for killing sympathetic-looking monsters, simply because you're used to it in game world. It experiments with the border between fiction and reality, and it's very easy to run it on Pacifist, because no one really wants to kill, let alone genocide. But the one turning point of Undertale where it becomes an amazing game is when you're faced with Flowey, and you realize that he's soulless and evil, no questions asked. And you have the choice to forgive him yet. That was the most intense moment, because that wasn't easy. Underfell is this. It's a true moral challenge because it's about empathy in a loveless world. Running a hypothetical Underfell game on Pacifist wouldn't be the expectation. It would be a true trial of faith.

I imagine true pacifist is the hardest route to accomplish in this version. Because you get no experience, no level ups. No nothing. And even if you did make it this far. Reading Asgore's dialogue in this fight may change their minds. Especially how he laughs at the facts Alphys tried to dust herself or how he's the one who gouged out undyne eye. Two characters you'd have likely grown attached to by the time you'd reach asgore. Only to hear this? I imagine most would abandon the route before asgore. But for the ones that do reach him. I imagine 80% of people who would reach asgore if this version of Undertale existed would probably abandon the pacifist route and just kill asgore as hearing that would probably bring out a strong hatred and emotion from the player after realizing the 100's of hours of dying you e spent to get to this point, is all because this man finds it hilarious to torture his people. As a result asgore would probably be the one of the most hated characters in gaming history if this was Undertale.

I feel like when you reach a certain level of maturity, you realise that edge is a good thing Underfell has such a strong message, of sticking with your beliefs and morals, no matter what and it's far more powerful than even the original game, it's based on. I absolute adore this fight. For the first half of the fight, it's all simple attacks with Asgore sadistically taunting you to attack him as he takes control of the fight. He's toying with you, making you dance to his rhythm and you can barely hold on. It's a constant struggle to endure and survive as he throws all his evil deeds in your face. But halfway through, Asgore runs out of taunts. He runs out of ways to manipulate you into playing by his rules. He's thrown everything at you psychologically, which should have driven you into a self righteous rage...and yet, you still refuse to fight. Not because you forgive or pity him. But because you. do. not. KILL. At this point, the music switches to a more heroic and determined version as Asgore is forced to resort to violence to try and make you fight, going as far as to savagely destroy your buttons one by one. And yet, you still never fight. Even when the only option is FIGHT, you cheat the system, taking advantage of the mechanics to force no damage. By the very end, you force Asgore into defeat. Not through violence...but through sheer and utter DETERMINATION. Because that is DETERMINATION: standing by who you are and your ideals until the very end!

I think that both of you are right, to an extent. I also think that both of you are incredibly wrong. While it's true that being able to forgive those who have done horrible things is a virtue we should all aspire towards, we shouldn't do it outright and without exception at the drop of a hat. What we should be giving everyone isn't forgiveness, but instead a chance at being forgiven. A second chance? Yes. A third? Circumstantially. A fourth? Likely not. Forgiveness is not a thing every human being inherently deserves, it is something they earn. In order to be forgiven, you have to change. Saying "I'm sorry" should entitle you to a chance. _Being_ sorry should entitle you to forgiveness. A clear and true recognition that what you did was wrong, and a willingness to put forward the effort to change. Those are the basic, ethical requirements for you to have earned your forgiveness. Frisk, in this animation, sees that deep down, there is a spark of good in Asgore, at least that's my interpretation of it. They see the _capacity for change._ Not a monster, but a man, just like any other from the surface, beaten and broken by circumstance, by the horrible conditions and tragedies he didn't deserve. They saw someone who, as I said, deserved a _chance,_ not _forgiveness._ Fell Asgore has a lot to atone for. It may even take his entire lifetime. He may _never_ fully redeem himself for the atrocities he has committed in his weakness. But denying him his shot at redemption just isn't right. Odds are good, Richard, that those enemies you mentioned have already had their second chances. And their third. Possibly their fourth, either due to your big heart or (former) naivety. Odds are good that they don't deserve any more. But if they _haven't_ been given that chance, you should take it upon yourself to extend the olive branch. If they slap it out of your hand, you shouldn't regret burning any bridges. I understand if you don't take this advice from a stranger on the internet who knows not your actual, detailed circumstances, but this little debate of ethics, and your very real-world, very personal issues seemed like they deserved my two-cents, especially if they had even the slightest chance of helping.

Guys. Real talk. Animation is a hobby for me. I prefer quality over quantity. I won't always have time to work on my animations. I appreciate your enjoyment of my work, so I ask you to be patient. It'll probably take a year or so to create those things. But trust me, I like breaking you guys into tears. It amuses me. So to deliver a grand tale of Underfell, once I've completely finish this series. By the end of it, I expect a storm of tears flooding my channel. Until then, that is but a fantasy. Come to think of it, this is the moral opposite of undertale, because in undertale, everyone's pretty much good-hearted, so it's easy to spare them, but harder to kill them. in underfell, everyone is evil-hearted, so it's harder to spare them, but easier to kill them. Then again, I prefer neutral route on both anyway.

its because of this that i have always saw underfell as a redemption/punishment for the frisks of genocide. a place where frisks soul is sent by the hate corrupted chara from the genocide run, to live through a repeating nightmare, where its easier to kill then it is to spare. and where the fights are even more difficult then the genocide route gave, and in completing a pacifist route of it, you' have shown a willing, trying effort, to do better, to be better as a person in the future, and just as you forgive residence of underfell for whatever crimes they chose, you yourself are given a chance to be forgiven for your own heinous crimes. you are not cleaned of your deeds however, you are simply given the opertunity to prove you are willing to put in the effort for a better future, even if it was a route you once completed before, showing you dont care if its nothing new, your putting in the effort to prove you are a new person, and in the end, to simply be given a short dialogue where you are thanked by chara, and nothing else. because if they gave more then that, it might entice you to see what else they might say if you try again, and by not trying again, you show your willing to stay with the happy end.

I remember watching this a while ago and saw it in my recommended so I decided to re-watch it. This is one simplest yet most well made animation out there. The fact that you put in the effort to animate Asgore's facial expressions when he thought frisk would finally hit him just highlights the quality of the animation. The storyline is also really good. I know it's been a year since you posted this, but what you need to understand from this reality, is Flowey is meant to be the opposite of Asriel. And since UnderFel asriel was headstrong and murderous, Flowey turned otu sweet and kind. If you pay attention to Asgore, he reveals Asriel is the one who blatantly murdered Chara. He is the one who came up with the plan, who cut down Chara. Asriel in this universe was cruel, and headstrong.

Fell Asgore, yes. He's still a grieving father who lost two sons on the same day and was unable to cope properly. I would've spared him just because I would not want to play a part in his assisted suicide. He wanted to be killed, and I would deny him the escape from his problems. I would be there to guide him if he truly wanted to repent, to help him find solace over such tragedy. "Ask not for whom the [death] bell tolls, it tolls for thee." These words are not about acknowledging or reminding some one we all can and will die, but rather, that with any death, we all lose a part of ourselves as a collective whole, for all of us lose a piece of ourselves in the death of another. This is why it's not "kill or be killed," it's "save or be saved."

This is a really awesome story, you're basically playing through a world brought to its current state through its king's uncontrolled descent into nihilism following the death of his children, and convincing the inhabitants of this world of the meaning and value of life, not only for the denizens of the kingdom, who gave up long ago, but even for the king himself, and helping those people move forward. Whoever came up with this did a really great job.

I honestly love the ending to Underfell. At least, this ending. Frisk in this AU most likely tried to run away from humanity because the humans were no better than the monsters, yet all they got was perhaps an even worst version than their worst nightmare. The dialogues are divine and the story is deep! I love the ideas in battle and in the story as well. Also, The latter part made me cry sooo much... This was absolutely amazing. While this is the only UnderFell Asgore fight I've ever seen, nothing could ever top it. It's a beautiful mix of an angering, genocidal fight, to get you to try to kill him, but at the end it's so, so sad... This fight literally made me want to cry... Which no official UnderTale fight has done... Undyne the Undying came close, but this... This was amazing... I like how the fight doesn't even actually start until half way through, so you think you're almost done... But then you realize it's just starting... I kept finding myself smiling at small things like Flowey trying to help you fix the buttons... And the altered story behind Asriel is amazing. I never would have ever thought of something like that... In my own, personal version of UnderFell, in the Pacifist route Asgore would spare you, absorb a human soul, and take you to the surface. Promising to stop killing humans. However, I wasn't super happy with that... This though, is amazing. Also, both the Flowey and Asgore sprites were some of the best I've seen. Since this is already probably like a couple hundred words long, and I could sit here all day listing off everything good about this animation... I'm going to point out a few nitpicks and things I particularly didn't really like. -I'm a little disappointed this isn't an actual fight, however, I understand coding is hard, so I understand why it is an animation. -The tear above Flowey's left eye (from our perspective his right) could be moved left a little, so it doesn't obstruct his eye, and it looks like somebody tried to kill him. -Asgore's cloak should be a little frayed, and I kinda dislike that it frays up. -If this wasn't an animation, I would probably use the default fonts, rather then the more whimsical ones. -I didn't really like Asgore's overworld sprite. This comment is probably like 200-500 characters long, so I'm going to stop here. Though this fight was absolutely amazing, and just know, I was just nitpicking a bit, this fight is nit bad by any means, and I look forward to seeing some of your future animations.

One the one hand, this is pretty much what I was imagining for Asgore and his throne room when I started playing Undertale. I was expecting an insurmountable demon king in a black and red throne room. On the other hand, just about every other sentence that came out of his mouth had me thinking "Okay, Edgelord". This was creatively and impressively a job well done! Especially when Asgore went on to destroy the rest of the buttons on the bottom, leaving only the FIGHT button, and was still spared by Frisk. I totally forgot that you can choose not to take action and miss your attack when in the Fight option. Then it got even more interesting when his Attack went up to INFINITY and how he just DESTROYED the box with his bare fist! The entire fight sequence got me sitting on the edge of my seat and the ending was touching. I'd say this was amazing animation and you did a great job!

I love this story!! This was amazing! I understand and respect that there are many situations in the real world where fighting may be necessary, and there are people who, through what they have had to face growing up, have learned to live life in a hostile way. I, on the other hand, am a pacifist, myself. Though I know that it may not always work out, I live my life this way in _faith_ that it will, because believing in others fills me with... well... DETERMINATION! There have been many people who have done terrible things and never shown any desire to change, but I have heard real-life stories of people who were so steeped in hatred changing because someone showed them love, even when they did not deserve it. I heard a story of a Ku Klux Klan leader being offered sympathy and understanding by a rabbi whom the Klansman had previously threatened. Over years, eventually the Klansman invited the rabbi to his home, and revealed in tears that he did not want to be in the Klan anymore and did not know what to do to get off the path he was on. The Klansman was ill and disabled, and the rabbi and his family invited the former Klansman to live with them for the rest of his life. He had spent most of his long life in hatred and ignorance, but the last few months of his life were a testament to love and forgiveness. Forgiveness and mercy do not mean ignoring what someone has done, and they do not mean letting someone continue to do wrong. Sometimes one needs to defend oneself and to defend others. As canon Sans put it, being a pacifist does not mean being totally innocent or completely naive, only that you always keep a tenderness in your heart and make a commitment not to harm others. It is so satisfying to so many people to see bad things happen to those who have done bad things, but I get the greatest satisfaction from stories of redemption and rehabilitation. Stories like this one. I know that I cannot prove it, and I do not blame anyone for not sharing the following belief, but I truly believe that EVERYONE can be saved. I truly believe in my heart that even the worst person can become a good person, given the right environment. They may need to be forced to stop doing harm first, but this can almost always be done without destroying them, and once they are no longer a threat, I believe that many of the worst people are ignorant and in great pain, and these can be relieved with understanding and kindness.

This shows just how kind Frisk truly is. Even in a world where violence is life, Frisk still looks for the absolute best in everyone. Even Asgore, who went as far as to destroy every option other than fighting, couldn't change her belief that anyone can change. I honestly can't think of anyone who is a better example of being the sole definition of purity that Frisk. That child will always be the light of hope in a world plunged in darkness, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

This... has to be the best Undertale animation ever, or even the best animation in all of KZbin. Let me explain why. This animation takes everything from Undertale and Underfell and builds upon it. The "everyone is out to murder because someone (Asgore) forces them to" character choice, the 4th wall breaks (the breaking and fixing of the battle command buttons), and so much more. It still makes me cry, even after seeing this before. It's beautiful, being able to capture this in about half an hour, and in ANIMATION FORM. Actually, i'm used to think *THIS* is how Asgore was right after the loss of both sons in the OG game. You know, something in his regular "uplifting" attitude was feeling wrong, like he was trying to forget *something* and change after *something* in his past, redeeming his sins by behaving that way. I believe that Asgore was, like, in form of this bloodthirsty monstrosity when the War between Monsters and Humans took place, slaughtering unspeakable amount of humans to safe his people and give them an opportunity to hide beneath the mt. Ebott. After this, he was devastated by the grief of ending so many lives, even for saving his monsters, and tried to change to the opposite personality type. But the death of his sons made him relapse, and as soon as Toriel saw Asgore in his "Past" or "True" form, she couldn't stay with him any longer.

Even if he literally gained lots of LV by executing his own people? I've pretty much hinted it in his dialogues. Monsters rebelled, he claims their heads, Level Of ViolencE increases, monsters can gain XP and LV as well, you know, the basics. Infinity isn't a number so there is no way Asgore could reach that by killing a lot of people, plus, we kill the entire underground, no way he did that, and i like the idea that Asgore somehow has an XP farm in Underfell, about the minecraft farming thing... That is creepy if you think about it

I'm not even sure if this was intentional, but here's a cool detail I noticed about the fight: In Undertale, a monster's soul and ideals usually reflect their stats. Take Sans for example, someone who is characterized by his laziness, depressive attitude, and unwillingness to fight. His stats are 1. If you eat a butterscotch pie in front of Asgore in the base game, his attack stat is reduced. Obviously, the pie itself didn't inflict a status effect on him or something like that; you ate it, after all. No, his stats reduce because he's remembering Toriel. He's losing his will to fight. In Underfell Asgore's context, his defense stat is reducing throughout the fight because he, at least unconsciously, cannot live with the atrocities he's committed. He knows how much of a horrible person he is, and, as the battle progresses, is practically _begging_ for the player to kill him. His defense isn't lowering because he's becoming more wild and unpredictable. Asgore's defense is lowering because he _literally wants to die._
