I have a suggestion for improvement. If the blade traps are destroyed, it is difficult to replace them while zombies keep coming at you. One idea would be to install a roll up gate to keep the zombies out until you have installed and connected new blade traps. The rolling gate has enough HP to last for a while. You can also install turrets to keep the zombies at bay.
@pseudoposse2 ай бұрын
Love the idea! During one of my horde recordings, I had a demo blow up the blade traps when I accidentally triggered him carelessly. I was able to replace the blade traps due to the stun of the fence posts but it took some time get them in place. That would have made it easier :)
@davidhuang84062 ай бұрын
I'm definitely stealing that idea. Perhaps you could use powered doors as well so you can open/close them via a switch. Can't recall, but I don't think roll up doors have a powered version?

I've been using Bart's Salvage as a hybrid underground/aboveground base for a while now, and it's held up so far. I created a drawbridge pit in front of my vehicle garage, knocked out the floor on the other side, replaced it with automated steel hatch doors, and turned the basement area into the main fighting area. The idea being zack goes around the perimeter, (which is surrounded by a storage block barrier- thanks for that one) trips the hatches, fall through blade traps and fences, all while I'm behind scaffold ladder. I did put a decent layer of asphalt around as well to try and mitigate digging, but so far the majority of them path to the drop zone and get slaughtered.
@pseudoposse2 ай бұрын
Sounds awesome!! Yeah I think because you are not far underground, the pathing still works pretty well.
@the_algo_rhythm2 ай бұрын
@@pseudoposse Thanks, I've been using a lot of your tips and tricks! I'm guessing you're right- there's still an easier path. It works even better when there's a second player across from the hatches- they all try to path there first, then fall down to me. (I'm actually still on the last alpha, lol- I had so much time spent on that save, and the 1.0+ release is just too... RPG-esque compared to the sandbox feel of the alpha.) I've tried to make a (mostly) realistic/non-cheese base since I found the bunker under the POI. The vast majority of crafting and storage is underground in the bunker, with farming and such in the warehouse and yard. It seems to keep heat down a bit and makes stuff less vulnerable. There's a handful of SMG turrets for wandering hordes and screamers and a cluster of shotgun turrets next to the fighting positions. I'm on day 250 something and I haven't had any failures- mostly just the occasional particularly dumb zeke getting caught on a wall somewhere. Granted, if I try to up the horde count to anything above 16 it's basically a PowerPoint presentation because I'm playing on a potato.

@@the_algo_rhythm I'm glad our tips and tricks have been useful! Day 250, wow!! I think highest I ever went was around day 180 or so...been years since I did a playthrough that long.

The ingellect knock back turrets are a greta option as well to help keep yourself from being overwhelmed. They can opperate through scaffold ladders and help create space to keep zombies from beating on the fighting position.

I'm not anti-cheese, but I LOVE the design of this base. :) The only thing that could make it better is to have a vehicle escape path. edit: I'd probably use cheese biscuits (the circles/discs on shaft/pit bases to have zombies drop "safely" according to their AI lol) on the secondary shaft. You could even combine the two and have the secondary shaft drop at the bottom of the staircase.
@pseudoposse2 ай бұрын
Glad you like the base despite the lack of cheese! A vehicle escape path could be nice. Extra work but if you plan on playing long term, would be beneficial.

You could adjust the entrance to put it anywhere. You could dig down from flat terrain with some stairs and adjust the entrance accordingly.

Can land claims be used to control the zombie spawns along with bedrolls of multiple players? One on either side with bedrolls filling the middle gaps. Or land claims outside your bunker on either side, since zombies can't spawn inside a mountain.
@pseudoposse2 ай бұрын
Land claims/beds will prevent zombies from re-spawning within a POI but it won't prevent zombies from spawning on the ground during a horde.
@robbailie58782 ай бұрын
Great video as always. When going underground does it make any difference, mats permitting, if you double up on the thickness of the concrete structure? So if everything is several blocks thick in concrete, does it then push them to use the longer way in? Or do they tunnel down to then chew through the increased thickness to get to you?
@pseudoposse2 ай бұрын
The thicker walls are necessary, and if they aren't thick enough, they will absolutely dig to you. It took about 5-7 layers of concrete above my fighting position to deter them. Before I added the second path, I had 15+ layers of steel and they still wanted to dig rather then run the extra distance. Which is why I recommend building around 30-40 blocks from the surface entrance. You could probably cut down the number of concrete layers to 3-5 if you are that much closer. I'd estimate my base was around 70-80 blocks from the entrance making it much harder to deter zombies from digging.

You could absolutely build something like this but also include a path in/out for vehicles. You might want to block that path from zombies but you can certainly do it if you have the patience.

I think it's since A21 that they tweaked the zombie AI to prefer digging.
@pseudoposse2 ай бұрын
That could be correct. It is definitely annoying haha. I wish they'd lessen the weighting a bit to make underground bases more viable without needing to turn the entire mountain to steel.
@the_algo_rhythm2 ай бұрын
@@Md936S Huh- didn't know that. My main save is still A21, I'm underground at Bart's Salvage, and I don't have problems with diggers.
@Md936S2 ай бұрын
@@the_algo_rhythm it depends, I think, on zombie count. GNS had a really hard time with his bedrock base in A21. Zombies would simply start digging at random even if they had a proper path down to him.
@the_algo_rhythm2 ай бұрын
@@Md936S I think the actual solution is that my fighting positions are only maybe 10 blocks underground. There's an easier path with automated steel hatch doors that drops zack off into my kill zone.

@pseudoposse26 күн бұрын
I don't mind that they can dig, but I do think it is a bit excessive with their pathing. If there is a way down, they should follow it rather than spend all night digging.
@RecuringWolfe15 күн бұрын
I wish TFP would let us have viable underground bunkers. Diggy zombies don't make sense, and the length you had to go to just to get them to walk down a safe stretch of unobscured path, its crazy! Its like they tried to make underground bunkers not viable. And that's a bit sad, as they could be very cool. We can't have bunkers, they are too stronk and not realistic... buuut we can have cheese paths of 14 metre zombie drops, zombie slides, zombie stuck in triangles... that's okay and realistic, and not too stronk at all, is it? Sigh... come on TFP. Let us build viable bases which are strong AND realistic.
@pseudoposse14 күн бұрын
I wish they'd tone down the degree to which zombies want to dig. You need way too many layers to make it work. Besides, underground bases are more difficult and time consuming to make so it should be a hefty investment by the player that gets rewarded.
@RecuringWolfe14 күн бұрын
@pseudoposse ya know... Their desire to dig might be usable against them. Would they prefer a path, even a horrid one, if it had a layer of dirt in it somewhere. The path would require digging at some point, so their coding may force them to take crazy routes of heavy resistance, just because there is a dirt wall somewhere along the path...
@Techfanatic732 ай бұрын
I don’t build bases period. I always use an existing POI. Way more fun. This whole base you build is all cheese. lol. Good video. But I’ll keep using real buildings. I also always use same base for horde night or not.

Fair enough lol. Building in POIs saves a bunch of materials and time! Curious, what part of the base do you think is cheese?
@robinmiller8712 ай бұрын
It's not. He's just jealous. What you do is soooo much work.
@Vitucadrus2 күн бұрын
Yeah some people prefer building their own structure to see if it can efficiently withstand a zombie horde night.. and others cheese it on top of the roof of an existing POI. See what I did there? Each to their own play style.. There is no better or worse way, there is only the way you want to play.
