While this is a great first step If you are concerned about someone stealing your music, there are a few steps you can take to protect your copyright. First and foremost, make sure that you properly copyright your music. In the United States, you can do this by registering your music with the U.S. Copyright Office. This will give you legal protection and allow you to take legal action if someone steals your music.

@@ivebeenpoppinbottles This is the way really, You can register on content ID (if you have not used samples) but it still wont always trigger to a "new" version. Audible Magic is the one that should pick up the fact its the same beat. But why its working for some cases an not others 🤷‍♂ I simply dont get to know.

My music sort of sucks and I have been noticing this year other people have been upping the tracks under their names, just a couple instances. As I am a hobbiest not so much an issue for me at this point but its weird seeing it happen as my music especially the older stuff sort of sucked bad. I only thing this would suck if they outright were trying to profit off direct copies of my stuff, but a reverse copyright claim would be utterly annoying - seems like a potential trolling thing to do that screwed up trolls would do, and anyone seeking to harass or gang netstalk someone by shutting down their content, massively dirty trick. Sad thing is there are very corrupt people out there, hopefully they will leave the planet sooner than others. I have messed around with tons of others peoples stuff over the years so I don't really care they are uploading it, I just wonder if my music is not commoditized, why the heck would you upload it? I guess you can take it as a compliment. I do think this will be more of an issue, its more or less the issue of preventing you from using your own music or sound. Again the whole copyright system is messed up it is there for commercial interests, censorship is wrong IMO regardless unless it incites violence or does real harm.

Okay so I'm here cuz I'm doing this right now. But idk what's about to happen. But I bought a beat. Did a song with someone. Uploaded it on my distrokid. I could have sworn I paid for some type of content id but whatever. I just found out the person I did the feat with did upload it to distrokid & did not credit me at all.

You can see if you have contentID applied when looking at the upload details in DistroKid. This however is something different. Also sounds like a lesson on that artists integrity for the future.

I love this video I have a question that really needs answers if possible.. If I want to distrolock a track I have made but I want certain channels on KZbin to be able to monetize those tracks I've made will whitelisting work , I know distrokid has the KZbin content ID protection but if distrolock it does it bypass channels you have whitlisted ? Or if you have already whitlisted a channel will distrolock bypass that?

in truth i dont know with that scenario. However once detected you can certainly allow it. But im unsure if the whitelist automates the process. Like yourself i couldn't find any clear answer.

Copyright exists from time of creation. You can formally register copyright but that would be an overly expensive process. Instead a good log and backup would serve you better. Unless of course you’re heading into plaques on the wall territory.

As a producer I uploaded a beat on distro lock. I then recorded some test vocals and did a test song. I then sent the files to a friend and had him upload the song I recorded. Guess what? It posted and Distro lock DID NOT WORK @ ALL! Any feedback? Would love to hear this..

We use DistroKid, and tested out someone using our production , and it posted for them successfully no problem. ​@@UndersHi, I've been having this problem for years and I can tell you, if your video is still up you can do a DMCA takedown notice to the music distributor the person did, if your date of upload is earlier than their date of upload, that's enough proof that you did it and the distributor is forced to remove the stolen release from the store. I've sent more than 20 DMCA takedowns these past months and I assure you it works, and you've saved me from ever having to do it again thanks to you and DistroLock
