Thank you for this! Caitlyn gets so much shit, despite beig such a good character. I feel like a lot of the Arcane "fanbase" is not willing to understand the chracters in season 2....Caitlyn and Vi especially. I had a talk with a coworker (who also watched Arcane) yesterday, that from their point of view Cait and Vi are just an "on-off" relationship and that they will probably break up again in the future. That person did not see the struggles the two have because of Jinx's actions and the class seperation.

The Caitlyn hate makes sense to me. But the bigger problem is that the show was super-rushed and because of it, a lot of characters are missing vital beats to their arc, and their stories suffered for it. Caitlyn's character arc was done reeeeeal dirty. As was several other character arcs. And because of it, I find myself enjoying the idea of Caitlyn rather than the actual character herself. s1 Caitlyn was fantastic. s2 Caitlyn was a victim of rushed storytelling that framed her in a much worse light than it really should've.

Vi understood sacrifice but not so much love....Cait was the opposite, she understood love but not so much sacrifice By the end, each taught the other what she lacks 💔

I only ventured onto Reddit after the series and whenever I'd do very specific searches to understand or deep dive in certain things. I was surprised about the Cait hate and realized, it's a lot of immature people (young or older) who clearly see the world in black and white and/or are in fact young and inexperienced in life and/or haven't done enough healing work on themselves to fully understand nuances and complexities in the characters as they haven't necessarily had complex nuanced grey zone situations in their own life to relate to.

Caitlyn never has hated Zaun as a whole even after the attack, thats a big thing everyone seems to not understand, her saying, "what kind of animals." She isn't referring to everyone in Zaun as animals, only those that came into the memorial to attack. She does hate Jinx, wants revenge and her brought to justice, but that's not the only driving force for Caitlyn when she makes her strike team with her objectives. She fully knows the oppressions in Zaun, Silcos Empire. She knew back in S1 before setting foot in the Undercity with the Caitlyn Files/Grand Conspiracy, and then after she was about to lose her job as an Enforcer pushed her to investigate by herself. Ekko is really important because there goals aligned and instantly wanted to help him. If she was so driven by rage for JInx, she would have opted in with the councilors, or not even make the Chembarons and Shimmer her objectives. The invasion wouldn't even care about that, but it matters to Caitlyn, she still wants to help the Undercity. Then the main reason she becomes erratic with Jinx is because Vi almost got shot my Isha. She had put her gun down when Vi pins her up but as soon as Vi was endanger. She lost her mother because she didnt take her shot, she almost lost Vi for the same reason. Caitlyn hits Vi ultimately because Vi compared her to the 'monster' that killed her mother. She was going to walk away but Vi saying that hurt Caitlyn so much she lashed out. Vi was in the right to stop Caitlyn, she doesn't see her sister anymore but she does see Isha, a child that just wants to protect and Vi knows all too well how it feels to see and Enforcer kill someone you love. Vi doesn't know Isha and Jinx relationship, but she is a protector in Vis eyes and didn't want to traumatize her. But I also think Jinx yelling NO to Isha to not shoot Jinx is something that suck in Vi's mind to protect both.

W the “animals” I don’t think it she was referring towards the ppl of Zaun. She’s referring to the Chem barrons that caused the memorial attack

And that's why Caitlyn is my favorite character in the show. She is an introvert and assertive at the same time. At any other time away from grieving her mother's assassination and her new found sexual frustration with Vi, she would have turned down Ambessa's promotion. People seems to forget that Cait was in between 20-21 when her mother was gone, Jayce disappeared, her relationship with Vi was fragile, her city under attacks, Mel gone, becoming the representative of the Kiramman house, now chosen to be head of state ....that's a lot on her plate.... Plus Caitlyn doesn't miss 😑 At that exact moment I was ready to lose Jinx, Isha and freaking Vi for that. 😠

You get it. You just get it. I swear it looked like she was having a panic attack when Ambessa summoned her in front of everyone. Caitlyn was still grieving over the loss of her mother and she suddenly gets thrust into a position of power and authority that she was nowhere prepared for. Ambessa manipulated her from the moment she made her a leader and commander of Piltover's forces. Caitlyn wasn't ready for all the responsibility and had no choice but to accept with the whole world watching her.

@@Yapping_dudeCaitlyn is mission focused and seeks results. Jinx is the reason for her mother and Cait's co-workers death...the reason for an ever changing city. Vi gave Cait her word and shared their first kiss in agreement. {Caitlyn wasn't changing like the Fandom made us believe}...she was raging but not changing 😤 I was glad she found her purpose and salvation again. She was still the one to make the first step and made more sacrifice entirely (losing an eye and stepping away from the counsel) With Mel gone, Caitlyn could have easily the most powerful one. But she loves privacy and being incognito 🥸

Hi Yapper, thanks for this video, your point of view is very interesting. The beauty of Arcane's characters, the key to understanding them and to understanding this story, is precisely considering the imperfection of the human being. The dialogue in the last episode between Viktor and Jayce is in my opinion enlightening. Viktor wanted to create a perfect world, without suffering and pain, a collective mind with a single thought and consequently without conflicts. Viktor says that humans want a better life but their emotions clash with reason and they often end up sabotaging themselves, just like what happens to Vi and Caitlyn relationship. Jayce replies that there is beauty in imperfections, it is these that make us unique, that make us human. There is no humanity without differences, without conflict, without pain. In Arcane there are no good or bad, there are only imperfect human beings. The actions of all the characters are guided by the conflict between emotions and reason which in some cases gives rise to a self-destructive cycle, in others it becomes a reason for change and growth. Vi and Caitlyn's relationship evolves exactly in this way, their love is so powerful because it is built, through ups and downs, precisely in the acceptance of differences. When I talk about differences I don't just mean social or character differences, but above all the reasons that push them to act with and against each other. I don't know how many people realized the layering and depth of Arcane. I have never seen such a beautiful animated product!

I think another thing to point out about Vi supporting and giving Caitlyn a pass to go down into the Undercity is that it allows Vi to absolve herself of the guilt she has regarding Jinx being who she is. She thinks Caitlyn can do what she knows she never could, kill Jinx. Interesting because this is the SECOND time Vi has manipulated someone to go down into the Undercity to find Jinx. First to save her in S1, and to kill her in S2. Also great take on Caitlyn realizing she has to do evil to do good. It's almost like she becomes a form of Silco this season. I haven't found any videos of this, just 1-2 small reddit posts, would love a breakdown of the "hell on fire" music video breakdown, there is a lot of information in there. One person mentioned that she's actually only targeting Chembarons in those and not all of Zaun like a lot of people think (so Cait never fully "turned evil"). There are some frames with Zaun but I believe it references the old Zaun when there wasn't the Kiramman vents installed.

I understand ur viewpoint of Vi failing to keep the promise to Caitlyn but I think it'd be best to consider both of their perspectives and not blame only just one of them. u can't blame neither Caitlyn who just lost her mother bc of Jinx and is seeking out revenge, trying to manage the heartache she feels bc of it nor Vi who lost everyone and whose only alive family member is Jinx. they were both trying to do the best thing even if it wasn't necessarily right understanding doesn't mean shifting responsibility. when Caitlyn's actions were completely understandable during s2 it doesn't mean she did nothing wrong. the point of arcane's character is that no one's perfect and everyone makes mistakes. we can sympathize w a character and recognize what they did wrong even if they weren't in a good enough mental state when they did. that's the only issue I have w ur take

Thank you for this contribution and many other content creators about Caytlin also do this work. Many brats judge Caytlin to be a "golden woke hypocrite." Hypocrite is one who does the opposite of what he says. Caytlin tried to do with his limited actions on foot everything that his mother and his friend/brother should have done, his girlfriend even turned her back on him and opted for violence. letting them go and left behind, locked in her frustrations at failing and then suffering the consequences of Jayce's attack, Vi's defeat and the delay of her mother and the council in deciding what to do with Zaun. After everything that happened, she was so sorry for everything that she blamed herself for everything that happened but she didn't say it because she didn't believe she would have anyone's forgiveness, but her surprise was great. Madie's betrayal only showed how manipulated she was from all fronts but the help of Jinx and company showed that she was no longer alone, they did not turn their backs on her. A comment from Savika would have been "it's not to save Piltover, we owed it to Kiramman, he entered Zaun on foot something that none of the council imagined, we broke his spirit and we received what we gave him, I was complicit in it and still I gave this seat" That would also have been a worthy closure for Savika's character, she betrayed Vander because she saw someone weak, she was loyal to Silko and then defended an empty throne that Jinx didn't even care to occupy. You're right Caytlin still deserves a third season, the most crucial thing is not if the Zaunita proletariat forgives her, but if she forgives herself.
