As Chinese, I have to say I have never heard someone will eat bats. In case I am young and I might don't know some culture things, I asked elder family member, they told me the bats looks ugly and it is a sign of evil in the culture, and they would never eat them even if get can get 1 million... It is reasonable because if some animals' meat is delicious, it will be popular, like pork, beef, and sheep. They will be remembered, generation by generation, as a counterexample

is this coronavirus has something to do with trade wars between US n china or something to do with anything?
@iceCream05104 жыл бұрын
Seafox I don't know. But in my opinion, the coronavirus not only hurts Chinese /U.S. economy, but also the whole world's. It is not profitable to use coronavirus as a tool. Meanwhile, the coronavirus is likely not a biochemical weapon because almost every country is influenced by it.

It was probably passed from a bat or pangolin that came in contact with something that people do eat. The chinese-bat eating thing is just xenophobia in action.
@Lee-fw5bd4 жыл бұрын
@@japuma630 idk if I'd go as far as to say xenophobia. I haven't seen anyone make fun of the Chinese because of it. Someone can be ignorant without being xenophobic. That being said, I'm fairly sure I read and was told that It spread to humabs as a result of how the meat markets are handled. If I'm not mistaken, the virus didn't even originate in bats. The markets keep different types of animals in small spaces which makes the possibility of cross-species infection very high. Add in to that pests which will be around regardless and that interact with humans and those closely kept animals on the regular and it was basically an outbreak waiting to happen. I don't actually know where the bat thing came from but I've only ever heard that it originated from meat markets.

Very interesting. I like how because of your connections to China you are able to give a unique perspective. I didn't think about how that huge group of a billion people might be thinking about this all with all the world's blame being heaped on them for this. I have some family on my mothers side from Soviet Poland.. What they describe the feeling of many people was after Chernobyl was one of "How could we let this happen, we are better then that" it's a very similar to what you describe people in China feel. The truth is mistakes and mismanagement happen all over the world... I believe the key is scrutinizing only individuals and relevant circumstances. For example if a certain segment of the population of Hubei has a issue with eating bush meat... focus on them, don't group all of the Chinese together. This only even adds confusion to the situation. I may be wrong, I'm no expert, but that is my humble and amateur view of the situation. Also, I do enjoy this new podcast series and the longer more in-depth style. Look forward to more.

@dazurathefirst84564 жыл бұрын
@@314rft So do squirrels, possums, raccoons, etc. and yet you see people eating them here in the US. Part of it is a habit, but a large part of it, especially in Wuhan, is wealth. If you don't have the money to afford farm-raised beef or have the tools to properly cook chicken thoroughly without scorching the flesh, and you need food, you will eat almost anything. I'm not saying Wuhan is on average poor, it is likely quite the opposite, as if I am correct, Wuhan is a major manufacturing city in China, but rather that the populations who are poor, consume these poor-quality sources of nutrients, get sick with a novel disease, and then proceed to spread it throughout populations, oftentimes without knowing they are ill. Personally, however, if I was desperate for protein, I would turn to insects. Easy to cook, not that bad in taste, and an absolutely excellent source of protein. A small bowl of seasoned and fried crickets provides over 20g of protein. Plus they're super easy to grow and harvest.

What videos show on KZbin doesn't mean anything. There have been cases well documented of Chinese people eating bats. Honestly, why do they have such a crazy diet regardless of that? That's what you get when you eat dogs, monkeys and bats etc. Of course in the West here we also eat things like goats, but generally way safer and eating these sources of viruses or endangered species like blue whales etc. seems to indicate a lack of common sense regarding eating animals in Asia. I say Asia because it's well known Japan also partakes in the aforementioned.

@dazurathefirst84564 жыл бұрын
This is how the media in the US works. They exist on two extremes, people were calling it a pandemic before it ever reached those levels, and then people were saying it's just the common cold. In reality, it is something to be scared of. But it is not something to panic over. Panicking only sends a shock to manufacturers and prevents them from getting supplies to medical professionals and people who need it most. It's best to remain alert, and aware of the spread, and to seek medical assistance ASAP if you notice symptoms that could be signs of a Covid - 19 infection. The disease may start with flu-like symptoms, but left untreated, those symptoms will evolve into pneumonia, even in healthy people. Remain informed and clean, IE - frequently wash your hands, try to keep a 6ft clearance from those who seem ill, and avoid touching your face, and you drastically reduce your risk.

Yeah, MSM hasn't been relevant for some time now. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the insane toilet paper prepping started with the online myth that we receive toilet paper from China and that the plants were going to shut down. This is untrue. There's a paper plant less than 2 hours away from my town, and yet people are going feral. If I'm wrong about that, then my alternative explanation is that people think they're going to be trapped in their homes for days and days on end and need to keep themselves prepared.

How do you get all the footage from China? Have a contact in a hospital there that gathers it for you?

I would be interested in a second video regarding the scientific advances regarding the virus, the vaccine and the numerous mutations occurring and what the future looks like as we shift into new challenges.

This is so fun and informative to listen to. Can you work more with things like drugs and chemical reactions in diseases?

Hi Chubbyemu, towards the end you advise to get your symptoms checked out, what would be your advice to someone in the UK, where we're asked to stay at home and not overburden the hospitals if possible?
