It’s hard. I have tried everything to change things, but over more than 10 years of no change and nothing nice happening, my Soul is tired. Sometimes Life just blocks you and nothing works. And pls don’t tell me there is always a way. Sometimes there is no way. Sometimes life can go on for many many years where things are blocked for you no matter how hard you try, or hope or think positively. And sometimes due to prolong suffering, human spirit breaks. And apathy becomes your everyday feeling. Because once you have been deprived for so long, you are disconnected from Life. So often time apathy is a result of prolong suffering, and prolong stuck in a rut condition. And then your whole life force has been depleted.

I feel the exact same way as you do. Even though I do have some proyects and aspirations, I struggle to move forward because I have no hope in the future and most of my life I never had a path. 30 years old and I have to START OVER. I'm just so sick of it. The only thing I found out to alliviate apathy is to put myself in unconfortable, risky situations. Last time I did a 50km walk in the desert. Physical exhaustion and pain are the closest to having a feeling, and the urgency of survival diminishes my anxiety. Maybe you need to do something like this periodically to reset yourself. I did it 3 months ago and I seriously need to do it again.

@@aprestoargentino5695 I remember few times health issue crisis did give me that zest for life again, desire to push forward and a feeling that I did not appropriate life and the blessings I had. As if my sight was blurred and I couldn’t find the joy in the actual joyful things I was surrounded by. And then when you are on the edge, facing real physical and emotional struggle, you kind of realise how even small little things were / are worth it in life, and how precious they are. It’s just that I wanted certain things that didn’t happen and I felt stuck for very long time. But at the same time, I believe that everything happens as it should… so may be that is what I needed/ had to go through…

Thank you- well said. Exactly this- loss after loss and rejection after rejection in all areas. Although i am grateful for what i have and now knowing what achievement in life gives- its not worth it (sometimes its good to be ignorant atleast one tries, but when you know whatever you do life is a loss overall, money and health goes away i do the required minimum- just dont feel joy or purpose except for praying).

@@jennifera777 Aww Jennifer, just saw this. I hope things get better for you. I will pray for you- my confusion is low and i am more hopeful n joyful now. I switched to Islam after having been in Church for years- i found many answers that are complete instead of confusion i found in church answers ( like God doesn’t reject or leave but i found the meaning of trials, the meaning of his presence, our practical purpose in life). Finding one or two likeminded people that uplift you will help you. Meditating, nature, genuine community in the mosque, the 5 time prayers give so much life to me now. On top of that I get to keep Jesus as my beloved role model and God’s messenger. My intellect n heart couldn’t live with church brainwashing n i am happy n content now. Sorry if this sounds bad to you (im not betraying God or Christ, just found the right version)- but perhaps this may be the light you need.

I have been depressed for three months.. couldn't do much, lost my energy, the smallest chores seemed too exhausting, i felt pain but couldn't know why, cry everyday and feel like.. my life sucks. I'm just a loser who couldn't finish one goal out of 8 goals.. I wanted to get my energy back so hard but just couldn't get it back and had a really bad time. I used to just waste my day on my phone scrolling through youtube shorts, with the guilty feelings burning me inside, today I said to myself "this has to come to an end" so I searched on how to get energy back and I found your video, it was the best thing I did . I took notes and now I have all my energy back after three months of hell, tomorrow is a new day for me, and I just wanna tell you how greatfull I am to u and that u helped me a lot.. You can definitely experience these without having depression. I haven’t felt pleasure or motivation for years. I work 100% off of discipline. Thank god my brain has a decent frontal cortex. I just graduated medical school and felt nothing afterwards. No sense of reward or satisfaction. I drove home after class with a blank face and went about my day normally. It is not depression because I am not suicidal, don’t cry, and don’t self harm. Lots of people relate to this but just put on a smile and act excited so the people around them don’t get worried.

My 20 year old daughter has been facing depression for 4 years with apathy taking the lead the last year and a while. It is devastating to watch unfold and to guide when this 20 year old is not yet ready to launch and struggles. How to nudge, to guide and let her figure things out too is so hard. Psychaitrist is adding Abilify to the Effexor, bloodwork is in and we hope. This is a bright reminder of the time it can take but with hope.

Do whatever you can to shake or shock yourself out of the funk, no matter how often or how many times. Choose life, YOU ARE WORTH IT! Please keep getting up and getting up and getting up. Apathy and motivation are my biggest struggle with my depression lately. Ever since I have gotten clean (Off heroin) I have lost total urge for life. That spark is gone. It's been over a year clean and recently been having a feeling of giving up and going back to drugs. I am trying so hard to stay the coarse. They say to go see a doctor but going to see a doctor takes motivation. It's an ugly cycle. Meds don't really help and I have been on so many different meds,

Thanks for this video. I was a Type A personality for most of my life... a big achiever. Started, grew and sold a multi-million dollar business and then seemed to quit living. I've tried to engage by coaching other business owners, and I've published three books after selling my business. I find it hard to follow through on my projects... particularly marketing and selling what I've created. My kids got married and my second grand child is on the way; but I find it challenging to find interest in any of parts of my life now. My wife is a gem, but I am not engaging with her either. I can't tell if this is depression or apathy. I will try to make sure I cover the ideas you listed. Nutrition, game/TV addiction, and alcohol before bedtime are three that are problems for me. @@Guddubhaiyaspeaking I’m doing much better, thank you! I was in a car crash a few months before my previous comment - this, combined with an overload of work, resulted in apathy and burnout. I ended up seeing a psychologist again, reducing my workload and cutting out a day or two (even though I initially felt shameful/embarrassed doing this, I had to consider what was best for my health. Can not fill from an empty cup). I also had to stop being so hard on myself and cut myself some slack. If I felt this way, there was a reason and I needed to heal. I started setting at least one enjoyable goal each day - baking, going for a walk in the sunshine etc. - and one other goal e.g. spending some time getting this piece of work done, think positively about my day and what I can potentially enjoy about it (e.g even though I don’t want to do this today, I will enjoy meeting with this person/listening to a podcast I like on the drive). This is all well and good. But personally speaking. My apathy comes from complete alienation from society. Combined with the hyper inflation and upcoming food crisis. I feel no need or desire to participate in a dying society that didn't even want me in the first place. Thus the inevitable neilism kicks in. To what end do we acknowledge the futility of it all? Will anything even matter once the economy crashes? Without the promise of a future. Why bother struggling?

Lack of purpose. But how to find it?
@DocSnipes
@DocSnipes Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching my video on Understanding Depression Symptoms - Apathy and Lack of Motivation. It means a lot that you took the time to engage with the content and share your feelings. Feeling a lack of purpose can be a challenging and difficult experience, but it's important to know that you're not alone in this journey. Many people go through periods of uncertainty and questioning their purpose. It's natural and part of the process of personal growth. Finding your purpose is a unique and introspective journey that can take time and self-reflection. I want to offer some guidance to help you explore and discover your sense of purpose: Self-Reflection: Take some time to reflect on your interests, passions, and what truly brings you joy and fulfillment. Consider what activities or goals make you feel alive and engaged. Identify Values: Think about your core values and what matters most to you. Aligning your actions and goals with your values can give a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Explore New Hobbies and Activities: Don't be afraid to try new things. Sometimes, purpose can emerge from exploring unfamiliar territories and discovering hidden talents. Helping Others: Engaging in acts of kindness and volunteering can provide a sense of purpose. Helping others often leads to a deeper connection with the world around us. Set Achievable Goals: Start by setting small, achievable goals. Each accomplishment, no matter how small, can give you a sense of direction and accomplishment. Seek Support: Don't hesitate to seek support from friends, family, or even a professional counselor or therapist. They can provide valuable insights and encouragement during your journey. Be Patient with Yourself: Remember that finding purpose is not an overnight process. Be patient and compassionate with yourself as you explore and discover what brings meaning to your life. Avoid Comparison: Avoid comparing your journey to others. Everyone's path is unique, and what brings fulfillment to one person may not be the same for another. Embrace Curiosity: Be open to trying new things and learning from different experiences. Curiosity can lead to unexpected opportunities and revelations. Celebrate your progress, no matter how small, and focus on the positive aspects of your life. Optimism and a positive mindset can make a significant difference. Remember, finding purpose is a personal journey, and it's okay to take the time you need to explore and discover what brings meaning to your life. You deserve to live a life with purpose and fulfillment.

I know exactly why I’m barely motivated to “mop the floors,” so to speak. Or any other cleanup in the house (eg hair everywhere). It’s because we have a large dog who messes it up again immediately. So the reward is very short-lived. Eventually I say, why bother? How does one deal with this?
@DocSnipes
@DocSnipes Ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing that! It’s completely understandable why you’d feel discouraged about cleaning when it feels like your hard work gets undone so quickly. When the reward is so short-lived, it’s easy to fall into the “why bother?” mindset, and that can definitely contribute to feeling unmotivated. Have you found any strategies that help balance out the frustration or make the process feel more manageable? Sometimes small changes or breaking tasks into more bite-sized chunks can help shift the feeling of overwhelm. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Has anyone used hypnosis to successfully reduce their negative thoughts and habits? I have ADHD, depression, anxiety and C-PTSD. I’m unsure of where to start and it’s difficult to see the light when I’m so impatient.

I'm really sorry you’re going through this. When depression hits that hard, even simple tasks can feel overwhelming. Lack of energy and focus are common symptoms that make it difficult to engage with even the things you once enjoyed. It might help to start by taking small, manageable steps. Also, giving yourself credit for any small effort can be encouraging. If you haven’t already, consider using my AI to search for shorter videos on depression, for tips and tools on how to manage it: allceus.com/AskDocSnipes Lastly, please consider reaching out to a mental health professional who can provide tailored strategies and support for what you’re experiencing. Depression is heavy, but you don’t have to carry it alone.

I have serious chronic pain (from adhesive arachnoiditis). it makes me mentally and physically stressed. and I have to use opioids to even be able to get out of bed. how to deal with lack of motivation if my neurochemicals are all imbalanced because of those 3 major factors you listed on the beginning? if I remove the opioids, the pain worsens and I can't do stuff. My doctors don't know what else to do with me and I am a doctor myself. any tips for my case? cause the motivation is zero. it's been 9 years.

I see many people give reasons to quit porn so that I have better sex and intimacy (and that seems weak reasons-I was expecting better ones in terms of what I will get with real women if quit-i cant imagine value in it) BUT what do I do about my lack of motivation to meet women cause it seems like why do it since I got porn? Even thought porn is causing many problems and its horrible I still dont see HOW women will replace that.... I know it has to do with porn warping my view of women and the world BUT is it the case that its maybe Depleting my "natural" motivation "power" and because of it I dont get that drive and ability to see intimacy and sex and women motivating enough at the moment? ( I used to years ago)
