I use #8/0 hooks for freshwater catfish in rivers or large lakes where catching a 30 to 50 pound catfish is quite possible. Some will even use 10/0 hook if targeting trophy size catfish.

I couldn't imagine ever releasing a fish with a hook lodged in it. If i can't remove a hook without injuring the fish, I'm keeping and eating it. Hell, if I hook a fish in the gut at all i'm keeping it.

Is a size 3/0 EWG from Gamakatsu good for bass or catfish? And is a 6lb test line good to use for this hook on a 6’6 medium casting rod?

What lure are you used? 3/0 is pretty standard for medium soft plastics. And 6lb is a bit light so depends what you are throwing and how

If you go ali express you can get whatever size you want the biggest I've seen is 18/0

I use barbed hooks I don't think It matters cause when I eat I think that does more damage to the fish then the hook does 😂
