I like what Brad said from 1:50 to 2:20, but one thing that every bowler should pay attention to is VOLUME. Length doesn't mean anything anymore because of ball technology. If a 52' pattern only has 14mL of oil , you can play the gutter. Sure you'll need to break the oil down a little bit, but if you get an aggressive ball with lots of surface that oil is gone by the 5th frame of the first game guaranteed. The reverse is also true: If you are faced with a 35' pattern with 40mL of oil, get ready to go all the way inside, stay aggressive, and loft the gutter cap if necessary. Volume is everything when it comes to oil patterns. Unless it's 80' I guess lol

Where your sliding foot should land +7 boards on your intended release point. Right handed players slide foot is about 7 boards left of your release point, vice versa for leftys. 7 is a rule of thumb, but depending on your body size (skinny/wide) it could be 5 or 8 boards. I hope this makes sense. If not try asking some bowlers or a coach.

@@flippperboy Ok. Actually I did know that. What I was actually wondering was when he moved from 5 to 15 at the arrows, how big of a move did he make with his feet. Being that he moved his target 10 boards to the left, did he move where he was standing 20 boards to the left?

Sorry for my ignorance...when you throw different lines, what determines your starting spot with your feet. I’m a new bowler and would love to know a rule of thumb on where to start for the 5 arrow, where to start for the 15 and then the 23 as you did in this video. I’ve always started on the same spot and moved arrows to find the pocket... seems there should be a better strategy
@AlterSchwedeWieGeil4 жыл бұрын
It's a little different for everybody. First you have to walk consistently. If your starting on the same board every time but finish on a different each time you should work on a consistent approach first. Once you've settled that one in experiment a little o. Where to stand and where to look to hit certain targets(you should be looking for a target at around 40ft). You should be using a plasticball that doesn't hook for this. That's because Reactive balls will skid differently on different patterns and therefore might corrupt what your seeing. You should have a couple of base setups for where to play the lane. I have 3 base setups for 3 different basic lines(8 to 5 / 18 to 7 and 32 to 9) From there I usually make 2 and 1 or 1 and 1 moves. The first number tells how far I move my feet and the seconds how far I move my eyes. I use 2 and 1 to keep the breakpoint the same and 1and1 to move the breakpoint. The 1 and 1 should work for every player. It moves the whole line by a board. The move you have to make to keep the breakpoint the same and alternate the laydown can be different for each player. However most of the bowlers make either 3and1 or 2and1

Some times you can't use the same ball on all of your lines tries because you may need a different ball for the pattern. That's why being a professional is beneficial because your sponcer (if you have one) sends you balls till they come out of your ears to drill to any pattern you encounter.

First off, thanks for the content and insights! So, as someone new to throwing a hook, and wanting to implement this system, I’m a bit confused on how you seem to just call out a single board and not a position at the foul line to a position in the arrow zone. 1) 5 foul to 5 arrow 2) 20 foul to 15 arrow 3) 35 foul to 20 arrow ( you missed the 23 (😜) So, is their a rhyme or reason to how you do this, because it seems you need two aiming point to create a track line to shoot on. What am I over thinking?

Can U please tell me how you're adjusting where you're standing when you're adjusting where you are throwing? I've just started taking lessons & bought a reactive ball. What confuses me is if you need the oil, why do you start on 5 which is usually dry to hook onto more friction at the end of the lane? I really need this explained in very simple terms to try to understand this.

What type of ball do you use for this initial look (9.0 hook ball, medium,etc)
@Todulchaos4 жыл бұрын
People tend to use what they call their benchmark ball for test shots, and move on from there with there more extreme layouts/surfaces depending. So id venture to say more your medium ball in your arsenal, if you go to either extreme as a test, you have to make more ball changes if you start out with the wrong one.
@Todulchaos4 жыл бұрын
For me this tends to be my medium aggression ball that kinda reads the mid lane well also. If it goes too long it doesnt tell me much about the pattern earlier, and if i use a ball that rolls too early it tells me less about the oil through the mid lane and end of the pattern.

They are talking about the positions of the arrows . The numbers start from right to left on lane when facing against the pins. The number 5 refers to the first arrow which is 5 boards from the edge of the gutter,every five boards are the the positions of the arrows . 10 means ,ten boards from right will be second arrow, 15 boards equal third arrow.

I like that idea of going up 5. Although, It would've been neat to see a different pattern on the other lane, say a 42-45ft flat, heavy volume, to kinda show the difference. Like if the ball doesn't come back from 5, it just stays straight!!

So let me get this straight. For the best bowlers on earth they have blue oil that is visible easy to understand the patterns. But for EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD that is LEARNING HOW TO BOWL they're like you know what? Let's leave it invisible!? I will never understand the logic behind this bullshit! It's bad enough that Pro's have the luxury of drilling a new ball every 15 minutes of their career for free.
