Understanding your camera settings is key to getting great photographs and aperture or F-Stop is one setting that will determine what is in focus in your image. In this episode I teach you about aperture settings and how they will change the depth of field (what is sharp in front of and behind your plane of focus). If you have ever wondered how to get a blurry background in a photograph watch and learn!
Thanks for watching!

I have wanted to learn photography for years, but I could never understand the measurement of all the inverse numbering. Like the wider the appature the lowere the number. First video of yours I have watched. I just subscribed. I am going to go start at the beginning. You are the only person that has explained the camera in a way I can understand...visually. Most, books, articles and even teachers teach it linearly. I think that is what I mean. You teach me photography by putting a picture in my head, others put words. Ironic, isn't it. Love the video. Thank you

I'm not sure if you mentioned, or if I just missed it, but one thing that helped me understand aperture all those years ago was to realize that it's a fraction. It's easy to be confused that a smaller number equals a larger opening, but when you realize that f/8 is simply your focal length ÷ 8. So, for a 200mm lens, f/8 means an aperture opening of 25mm and f/4 means an aperture opening of 50mm, and so on. Like I said, it really helped me in the early days. So much for the people that say we'll never use math after we get out of school.
