Hey guys!
Here's a little lesson on my perception of the 2-5-1. Kept it short as always to keep the information digestible. For those who would like a second part, feel free to get in touch.

A great “standard” i have been practicing for a few weeks is “Seems Like a Lifetime Ago pt. 1” by Bruford. The A part has a descending chord progression, and a 2-5-1 using Eb as a tritone sub for A7, and the B part uses a 2-5-1 to F# but the piece has about 8 bars where it descends chords

Some very good ideas in your video. I try to avoid having anything at all in mind when I begin to play, otherwise it is easy to become trapped within things you have played many times before. I prefer to clear my head for a moment and let it happen naturally, and to start simply and build. I also prefer to improvise in small amounts, e.g. no more than one to three minutes at a time. You can cram an awful lot of ideas and music into that amount of time, and once you have a few good ideas you can then work on them in more depth, but again by using a natural approach. The hardest part is connecting these smaller ideas together into a coherent whole, but that becomes easier with practice.

EgoShredder that's what I always aim for. Small bits to bigger chunks to huge ideas but to have full control and not just puke everywhere. Thanks for your comment. Peace ✌🏽

This is an interesting approach. As a beginner to improvisation, I try my best to remain harmonically clear; ya know, in a ii-V-I, thirds resolving to the thirds (target notes, as you say). When you are improvising using these substations, do you still think about where to land on a given chord tone to emphasize the progression? I mean, would you use Gm6 over these two bars and not consider landing on F# on the downbeat on D7? Sorry if this is an elementary question.

Hello Anthony, I'm new here and a guitar not a bass player. I saw a comment you made over on Jens Larson utube channel. So here I am. Good Idea using the diminished II scale instead of the G7, I never thought of that. Thanks

Is it normal when new to the bass to take a while to get the feel for the right attack for plucking? Even though I know the correct technique, I have to concentrate really hard not to hit the string too hard / at the wrong angle or with the harder part of my finger. When I mess up ( a lot) I get more of a guitar string, pingy sound. I'm using the cheapest electric bass I could buy, I wonder is that a factor? I never expected it to be so difficult to just slowly pluck strings consistently. I've also heard that going in DI without an amp is much less forgiving so I may be hearing my fuckups magnified a bit. Any thoughts?

It would not be as gratifying if it was easy to do ;) give yourself some time, even years if it is your first time playing an instrument, try to play as clean as possible, if you do so, someday you will do it without even thinking about it!

see, here's the thing...we do have free will, or else our existence is pointless. God knows ALL POSSIBLE OUTCOMES. it is still up to us to follow the correct path. how do I know this? because it feels true. it makes sense!
