What I do is I order grass fed/finished high fat meat frozen. I thaw it right before it eat it. I eat 1-2 lbs a day of very high fat or I add fat. I like to eat at night best and fast during theday usually. If I have egg yolks I eat less meat. It's been years of trial and error and back then no one was doing it. Awsome to have more knowledge out there now! When I was eating tons of suet , organs and I never thought about how my body needed to adjust to the really high fat and left me queasy in the beginning. I also have taken lots of fish oils for years. Olive oil and lime juice with egg yolks as a drink too. I definitely want to make some you tube videos on the raw because I've been doing it for so long and wish I had advice when I started. Though I don't think raw is necessarily necessary.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:43 *🥩 Different beef cuts besides ribeye that are fatty include brisket, chuck steaks, and those with a thick fatty cap.* 04:23 *🐟 Omega-3s like DHA and EPA found in animal fats are crucial, farmed fish lack these nutrients due to their diet.* 08:45 *🚫 Vasectomy generally doesn't mess up hormones; it's a straightforward procedure to make one sterile.* 11:47 *🫐 Eating berries occasionally on a carnivore diet may be fine, but monitor how they affect you, as they contain antinutrients and sugars.* 16:01 *🍽️ Chewing food adequately before swallowing is more about safety and digestion efficiency than hitting a specific count like 30 times.* 19:57 *🎭 An amusing anecdote about pranking involving adding excessive vitamin C to a drink, resulting in epic diarrhea.* 21:46 *🥩 Trying the carnivore diet can lead to overall improvement in health, even for conditions like long covid or post-viral fatigue syndrome.* 23:24 *🦁 Lions tend to eat the fattier parts of their prey, leaving leaner parts like hindquarters. Similarly, Native Americans historically left leaner parts of animals, suggesting a natural preference for fatty meat.* 25:16 *🦴 While some carnivores eat bones, humans can derive sufficient nutrients from muscle meat alone, especially if it's from wild game or regeneratively raised grass-fed animals.* 26:38 *💊 Some individuals may need additional organ meats or supplements to address nutritional deficiencies early on in the carnivore diet, particularly if they've been consuming grain-finished meats.* 28:57 *🧠 Maintaining adequate B12 levels is crucial, as low levels can lead to brain shrinkage and nerve damage. Address deficiencies promptly through dietary adjustments or supplements.* 30:22 *🚫 Certain foods, like beans and coffee, can significantly reduce the absorption of nutrients like zinc, highlighting the importance of mindful eating for optimal nutrient absorption.* 33:54 *🩺 Persistent health issues like parasitic infections may require medical intervention, including specific medications to clear the infection effectively.* 36:29 *🥩 Hormone production, including estrogen, relies on cholesterol, emphasizing the importance of consuming fatty meats for hormonal balance, especially in menopause.* 39:16 *🧂 Initially, some individuals may need to add salt to their diet to compensate for electrolyte imbalances caused by transitioning away from carbohydrates, but over time, the body adjusts its electrolyte levels. Regular monitoring is key to determining individual salt needs.* 43:35 *🧂 Salt intake varies among carnivore dieters; strict carnivores often avoid salt entirely and rely on the sodium naturally present in meat.* 45:36 *🍖 Salt consumption should be mindful during the transition to a carnivore diet, but listening to your body's salt cravings is crucial.* 46:34 *💡 The debate over salt consumption involves arguments about its necessity, potential for overeating, and addictive properties similar to sugar.* 47:30 *📉 Elevated leptin levels can slow weight loss, but maintaining a carnivore diet usually leads to a gradual drop in leptin over time.* 48:38 *🚫 To optimize weight loss on a carnivore diet, eliminate dairy, artificial sweeteners, and berries, focusing solely on fatty meat and water.* 50:13 *🥩 Cutting out all non-meat foods, especially vegetables, is essential for effective weight loss and health improvement on a carnivore diet.* 51:08 *⚖️ Being in a caloric deficit isn't necessary for fat loss on a carnivore diet; focusing on nutrient-dense fatty meats and listening to hunger cues is more effective.* 52:03 *🏋️♂️ High-intensity exercises like resistance training and sprinting promote fat loss and muscle gain on a carnivore diet.* 53:14 *🛑 Any deviation from a strict carnivore diet, including minor indulgences, can hinder weight loss progress and metabolic adaptation.* 54:33 *🚫 Mass gainers with carbs and sugar are counterproductive for muscle growth; eating fatty steak post-workout provides all necessary nutrients.* 56:10 *🍖 Eating meat post-workout aligns with evolutionary biology and provides essential nutrients for muscle recovery and growth.* 59:14 *💪 Eating until fatty meat stops tasting good and focusing on nutrient-dense foods promotes muscle gain without the need for supplements.* 01:04:47 *🥩 Fat trimmings from the butcher can be obtained for free or at a low cost, as butchers often have to pay to dispose of them.* 01:07:08 *🍞 Nexium for Hiatus may affect stomach acid, but transitioning to a carnivore diet can normalize acidity levels over time.* 01:10:24 *🤔 Conditioning can cause aversion to red meat; easing into consumption and gradually reconditioning can help overcome this.* 01:21:36 *💡 Historical data disproves the myth that humans didn't live long enough to experience modern diseases, highlighting misconceptions about diet and health.* 01:26:05 *🔍 Doubts on the integrity of historical figures like Ancel Keys raise questions about trusting established beliefs.* 01:28:13 *💊 To detoxify heavy metals like lead, prevention is key, but testing and consulting with a doctor for chelation therapy if levels are high can be helpful.* 01:30:03 *🏥 Acknowledging the benefits of modern medicine while advocating for lifestyle changes to combat chronic diseases.* 01:32:16 *🥩 Goat meat is a suitable option for a carnivore diet, especially if beef isn't available.* 01:35:46 *🍳 Increasing fat intake can help improve stool consistency for those experiencing issues on a carnivore diet.* 01:39:25 *🥚 Eggs are considered "honorary meat" due to their nutrient profile, but personal tolerances vary; pasture-raised eggs are preferred.* 01:41:29 *💉 Ivormectin has shown efficacy for various conditions, but it's taken for specific medical needs, not as a general supplement.* 01:47:15 *🍖 Weight loss should focus on fat loss, not just losing weight overall, to maintain muscle and bone mass.* 01:49:30 *🏋️♂️ Stalling weight loss can occur if meals are intentionally withheld, as it can slow down metabolism and lead to weight gain.* 01:52:29 *💊 Avoid relying on multivitamin gummies due to their sugar and artificial ingredients; instead, focus on nutrient-dense foods like liver for essential nutrients.* 02:07:36 *💊 Supplements aren't always necessary, but if you're deficient, consider them.* 02:08:21 *🍽️ Listen to your body when eating; Hi everyone, I am new to the carnivore diet. Learning everyday. Thank you to Dr. Chaffee for educating and for taking the time to help the community as much as possible. It makes a world of difference. I definitely battled for the first 2 weeks. I am 1 month into the diet, and I definitely feel much stronger now than I did 2 weeks ago. I struggled with the thought of eating only meat for every meal, pushing through each meal. I felt sick, with indigestion and headaches, to name a few. I was ready to give up, but I didn't, and I am grateful that I am still on this journey. I feel like I have adapted now, and I am enjoying what I eat and how I feel after meals. I feel so much better, my weight is dropping, not that much on the scale but not too bothered about that. I feel great and I can feel the difference in my clothes; the shape of my body has changed so much! I am at the point where thinking of eating sugar or carbs makes me feel sick, and when I had some cake at a birthday party, I felt so sick and battled to fall asleep. If you are struggling with the new way of eating, push through and don't give up. The benefits are so rewarding and worth it.

Thank you for engaging so much with the community, dr. Chaffee. Can we expect another one of these? I got a question, but I understand if you don't have time to answer individuals in comments. Struggling a lot with oxalate dumping (Celiac, leaky gut), and gout flares when I try to go carnivore. With that, wondering how to approach Carnivore with ox/gout issues. Anything to look out for? It's often not talked about, so it's difficult to figure out how to approach it them. My assumption is; slowly taper down one last oxalate food to keep it at maybe 30-40mg to let the body release, it without relasing everything and causi ng massive damage to the body.
@anthonychaffeemd8 ай бұрын
You are very welcome! Yes I try to do a live Q&A on KZbin at least once or twice a week. I can't always with work or travel, but that's the plan. As to oxalate dumping, yes that's a good plan. And just go with a pace that works for you. A lot of people who get those gout-like reactions after going carnivore tend to have them go away eventually and not come back. But just see how you go

@rachelwalters27758 ай бұрын
I used to experience this to varying degrees. Really listen to your desire to eat. If you don’t really want to eat another bite, don’t. If you still feel you do but feel sick try a piece of just meat or just protein. I’ve found contrary to what I thought, if I eat a little more of the fat alone, it calms down and then I’m done. But my biggest take away that took me a while to get is to stop eating before I feel nauseas, when I get a tinge to want to not eat anymore or I’ll eat a little more fat. Be nuanced with your approach and don’t think you’re wrong. Trust your body. Also, there is an adjustment.

However I can tell you that you'll get plenty of calcium on a carnivore diet, and most importantly because you won't be taking in all the plant toxins and antinutrients such as oxalates which will strip out calcium from your body when you eat them. I have seen multiple people, and have had several patients myself, who have reversed their osteoporosis after 8 months to a year of a carnivore diet with resistance training. The resistance training is important, because this stimulates bone tissue growth. Then the carnivore diet gives the appropriate nutrition and support your physiology and making new bone material. That is what has happened in others in any case, and hopefully it does for you as well. Please let us know how you go!

What ever you do, don’t take the osteoporosis drugs. My mom took one, I don’t remember which one, she lost all her teeth & had problems w dentures & eating after that

@Debbie3360 agree. My doc tried to get me to take them, I refused.

Regarding salt and electrolyte supplements, it doesn’t make sense that we can do a better job balancing our electrolytes than our body. I’ve seen two examples of blood tests on high salt consumers whose sodium levels were low. I don’t feel we should try and outsmart the body.

Hi guys, About 2 weeks on the carnivore diet. The last two days I’ve noticed my mouth is getting very dry and waking in the middle of the night with food still not digested despite eating 4/5 hours before bed. Is this common when converting from standard diet to carnivore?

I find that hard to believe since EVERYONE, once they get fat adapted says the exact opposire. Also if you still drank coffee it will affect you much worse, now that your body actually works again.

Maybe add a lot more fat? Fat is very calming. You may also need to add some magnesium for a while.

I listen to my body, when it wants salt, i give it salt . . . then there are times i don't salt for days. Listen to your body, it will tell you what it needs and wants.

Your pancreas has to get used to excreating bile again split you meals up don't drink water around meals slowly add a bit more fat, I wouldn't eat dairy or lean turkey/chicken you need energy, rabbit starvation is bad. Eat slightly less fatty cuts of beef or sheep and go from there.
