Uniparental disomy occurs when cells contain two copies of a chromosome from one parent and none from the other parent. Inappropriate gene activity disrupts chromosome segregation and generates uniparental disomy, present in many cancer cells. From the National Cancer Institutes' Center for Cancer Research.
