What Causes Anxiety in the Brain?
In Dr. Daniel Amen’s new book “Your Brain is Always Listening” he describes the ‘dragons from the past’ that can breathe fire on your emotional brain. The most common of these is the Anxious Dragon, which has been especially dangerous during this pandemic. In this episode of the podcast, Daniel and Tana Amen discuss what triggers the anxious dragon, and what you can do to tame it.
Taming the Dragons of Past Trauma
In this week’s series of The Brain Warrior’s Way Podcast, Dr. Daniel Amen and Tana Amen go into more detail on the dragons from the past that can breathe fire on the emotional centers of the brain. Although these dragons can cause havoc in your life, when you learn how they originate and how to tame them, you can make your life so much better. This episode features the Wounded Dragons that are the result of past traumas.
How Feelings of Guilt & Shame Manifest in Your Brain
Feelings of guilt and shame can cause people to do terrible things, like self-harming behaviors. Therefore it’s vital to know where these feelings are coming from and how to keep them from overwhelming you. In this episode of the podcast, Dr. Daniel and Tana Amen are continuing their discussion of the ‘dragons from the past’ outlined in Dr. Amen’s new book “Your Brain is Always Listening”. The focus of this episode is the Should & Shaming Dragon: What triggers it, how it manifests, and how to tame it.
Understanding the Mindset of Spoiled and Entitled People
When people have a sense of being special, spoiled, or entitled, dealing with them can be a nightmare. However, it’s even worse if those entitled feelings are your own. In this episode of The Brain Warrior’s Way Podcast, Dr. Daniel and Tana Amen discuss the Special, Spoiled, and Entitled Dragon, referenced from Dr. Amen’s new book “Your Brain is Always Listening”. Learn the importance of letting go of feelings that the world owes you, and why taking responsibility can be a game changer.

I needed to see this., thank you! Five years ago, I moved into a lakeshore community where there are plenty of jobs, higher incomes and expensive homes, boats and second homes as investment properties My husband and I are seniors and moved into a condo community and have encountered living with entitled people for the first time in my life. I consider myself an intelligent but otherwise average person with normal interpersonal communications and I have been called a good neighbor on my past. In those five years we have had five complaints letter written by entitled persons. My husband and I have health issues, disabilities and we both follow special organic dietary plans for our health. This means we cook bone broth and kale sauteed in organic coconut oil on a weekly basis. Two of those five complaints have to do with cooking odors coming from our condo (which does not have a kitchen vent to the outside.) I often feel harassed for normal, healthy behaviors, especially by one board member who lives in our condo building.

This is so interesting. I suffered torture, neglect, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, horrendous savage beatings, being electrocuted. My abuse suffered from my birth and continued throughout my childhood and adulthood. Your talk is really helping me. Thank you for making this video.

I'm so sorry about the abuse you suffered. It is absolutely disgusting. I have no idea how you even survived. I hope that you have cried out the immense the pain and rage that you probably have inside. I really hope you have found some happiness in your life. 🙋😥😥😥😥😥💖

The point Tana made about the shaming dragon overtaking ones ability to get in touch with the wounded dragon is very helpful for my understanding of how these dragons work together. I also have ten dragons.

I had a bunch too but can't remember due to so much loss of cognitive functioning. Hope you find a way to tame each one of them.

This is what I say to myself when I feel anxious, "Nothing has ever been 'safe' in reality , and the good news is there is no such thing as 'unsafety' either.A tree that is being chopped down and burned is not an 'unsafe' tree, just a tree being chopped down and burned. The 'perception' of being 'unsafe' is a perception that doesn't truly exist in reality..There is actually no such thing, so take 3 diaphragmatic breaths and chill out me".

Wow I was and depending on my environment (I think) I still could be at times a bed wetter. All of my childhood though, I always was and sleep walker too. Bed wetting, though was always there and so I felt that when you said that "Oh....." feeling every morning when first waking up. I experience that same sort of pain/fear now, but when my body is electrical voltage like thing and it's a deep very so deep pain, and fear shooting through me touching my very core being. I don't know how else to describe it.

Wow . I have a question. Many times I compare good behaviour of me to others. Or good morals of me with others. Like how only I know how to react to this situation, how can't people know about this? How can I overcome this thinking and how to deal with insensitive people?

Spoiling is never good. What you teach a child becomes their understanding, fact. If belittle a child the can have that limitation into adulthood. If you teach a child they are the most important, they can be the nicest kid and still have high expectations because of your training and it can end up ruin their lives their relationships .

Dr Amen.. I'm having somewhat of a paradoxical reacton to pharmaGABA & magnesium, which I've started back on, to tame my anxious dragon at night. Within minutes I experience agitation and muscle tension, more insomnia, and a lot more anxiety the next day. WHAT?? I've never had problems with magnesium before, until now when I am going through a phase of severe CPTSD symptoms. Any reasons these two supplements would have the opposite effect? 😫

Sometimes people have said that while feeling higher than normal anxiety levels, Gaba can keep them awake at night. So if you are feeling more than normal anxiety levels,(you and all the people globally) , skip the gaba at night.Take it in the morning instead.Hope this helps.

Time to get it from a whole food plant based diet and not supplements. Move your body and practice breathing to oxygenate your brain. Self talk changes your chemistry and trauma treatment is somatic. We hold it in our bodies. It takes inner work more than drugs. I learned this after decades of drs giving me drugs. I’d be fine until my body adjusted. Google Peter Levine, Pete Walker, But it started with getting over food addiction by getting free on plant based diet. Dr Gregor daily dozen. Check out the brain gut connection. You can do this. We can do this.

@@JnTmarie thank you for all the suggestions, concern, and encouragement. I've been doing most of these, so far, but it wasn't sufficient. What helped the most was an low carb high quality fats & protein (meat) diet, with carb up days of veggies. Still, definitely not enough.. so despite being a bad idea, alcohol is the only reprieve at times.

@@blissfulbaboon Adverse reactions are normal n can happen with many things. Gaba prescription is what helps my family tgt sleep. We have pretty significant severe insomnia n my doctor explained how gaba crosses the BBB (brain blood barrier). I truly wish you all the love, hope, n finding out what helps your anxiety n sleep. After all this is the time your brain shrinks n bathes itself in cerebral fluid to detox n heal everything. It's enormously important to every person to get as much sleep as they can possibly get.

Old religious and traditional practices probably bring shames into our human relationship, and consciousness. It is very toxic.
@cmauro7912

The division of one's consciousness from one's reality has been a mind control tool since man uttered his first sentence. Reigions, shopping malls, politicians, and The word Global out to get you to rival others, their clothes, blind loyalties, the Reason God sent us here...To make this a Heaven on Earth. Instead Left and Right. High School understanding still at 60 and beyond.
