An insightful in-depth look into the 2010 Comedy Film "The Other Guys" starring Mark Wahlberg as Detective Terry Hoitz and Will Ferrell as Detective Allen Gamble. The Other Guys is a satire of the detective / cop genre of films. It is a brilliant underrated action-packed / comedic masterpiece that is well worth viewing.

Much thanks. :) It feels strange hearing you say "an old favorite"... For me- 2010 felt like yesterday. And I do vividly remember seeing this film in high school with my friend Christian like it was yesterday. I just saw Christian a few weeks ago, we watched this 2002 movie i brought with me called Reign of Fire. A post apocalyptic film that takes place in the year 2020.

Will the creator of this channel passed away unexpectedly from a brain injury, a year ago. The family is following his wishes and intention to continue the channel. If you get a chance, see the Memorial video. We plan on posting short videos about once a month. Maybe, a video on authors or music Will liked. That might be interesting for the followers of this channel.

I don't remember the art gallery scene and I just watched it recently. Maybe it's in a director's cut?

I think it was in the theatrical cut 🤔 It could have been a deleted scene, I don't know.

I'm very flattered by your comment 🤗 I was watching a few videos of mine just now- and I notice my voice in "The Purpose of Music Videos" is like- perfect. And I have no idea why that was. I never did anything different, to this day I use the same microphone. But- in that one video my voice does some next level stuff 🤣 Check it out if my voice is your xanax 🙂

...This movie is extremely postmodern. Like, the coffee table IS the movie: "It represents our shattered sense of community in the face of Capitalist-driven isolation." I know what you're gonna say: That's quite a stretch. But is it? I mean, the movie starts out with Danson and Highsmith, who are celebrated despite, or rather, because of, their wanton destructiveness. They cause way more damage than the people they're pursuing, but get away with it, because they're part of the system. But does anyone really care about them? The other cops start fighting over who's going to become the next "rock stars" at their funeral; the department is competitive and cut-throat, which is a feature shared with, you guessed it, capitalism. The men here mock each other for being too feminine, but this is shown to be absurd. I mean, the movie's already pointed out the property damage Danson and Highsmith caused, plus, it's their macho, action-hero mindset that got them killed (I think there may also be some criticism of entertainment, there; if they'd stopped to think, instead of expecting things to work like movies...) (not to mention, being trigger-happy is what caused the set-back in Allen's career). Instead of community, there's a lot of unnecessary in-fighting. Men criticize each other for being too feminine, which is really absurd. That's especially pointed out by the ballet and art-gallery scenes: the idea that someone would go to such lengths, embodying the very thing they're mocking, just to make fun of someone, is ridiculous. It makes you wonder if making fun of people wasn't really just an excuse. Why should that which is feminine be considered weak and undesirable in the first place? Allen and Gamble might be mocked as being "not man enough" by others, but they're still great at their jobs. In fact, part of the reason they succeed is because they do the less exciting grunt-work. In the end, that's what the movie wants to focus on: it's "the other guys," all of us doing menial jobs, that really make things work. Meanwhile, we're being leeched off of by the 1%, and... The credits definitely made me take a deeper look at this movie, because wow. Wealth is another thing that's glamorized in movies, but Ershon here, rather than being a brilliant businessman, is an embezzler and a coward. Everyone is fighting each other over his money, and... In the end, he's punished, but Boardman gets away with it. Interesting decision to make her character a woman. You have all these men fighting each other, many of them commenting on each others' masculinity, but then who really has the power in this movie? Who gets away with it in the end? Boardman does this by using masculine/Capitalist ideals of competition, winning at all costs... I think one thing the movie might be saying is that the masculine isn't special: women can embody those values, too. Meanwhile, feminine values like compassion can be strengths. I mean, it's through partnership, not competition, that Allen and Gamble succeed. I think some of the message is lost in the plot, but... Yeah, with those credits? There's no way that commentary on the coffee table was a coincidence.
