Since my original post two weeks ago, I noticed a couple brothers kindly making an effort to help answer the problem I’m dealing with, even going as far as to suggest or point me in the direction of other videos. As such, I thought I’d make my question more clear, and thank you all for your sincere help. The precise questions is: We know there will ‘likely’ be a ‘minority’ (I don’t know how accurate the word ‘minority’ is here) of non-Muslims that will enter Jannah. Furthermore, we know the rule is that Shirk is not forgiven after death, but that there are ‘possible’ exceptions to the rule. If that is the case, I want to know why we must always avoid having the presence of mind or holding out hope for the chance our beloved parents, family, friends, etc. will enter Janah and be amongst those exceptions to the rule, in particular, why can’t we have this hope and presence of mind during prayer and/or through prayer? What good or wisdom is there in having hope without prayer? Also how can I reconcile that? So when such a person dies it’s unacceptable/forbidden for your response to be “I pray for the best.” Why is that? This action doesn’t appear logical at all when you consider what we apparently believe. Again, my hope is for an hour lecture over this question from the sheikh. I hope he reads this.

There is no such thing as Islamic dress. It talks about modesty (for both men and women) in one place. That's about it.

Modesty is one part. There are other parts too which characterizes the islamic way of clothing: Cleanliness, no arrogance (e.g. wearing of gold for men, length of trousers/ garment), no imitating of opposite gender(e.g. unisex clothing, some colours), differentiating from the nonbelievers (e.g. hijab, beard, no amulets) and some traditions like garment, head covering for men etc. This is what I called islamic way of clothing. Our religion gives us many freedoms, of course we don't need to wear exactly the same things like in some other religions, we have many choices 👍

@@lightman2258 imitating other genders is not same as unisex clothing. For example unisex shoes or a hoodie is fine. Imitations refers to features that are distinctly made for the other gender. When you can tell a man is a man and a woman is a woman even in unisex items, there is no issue. When a man wears heels, or a woman tries to wear male suit with short hair, etc is when you run into issues

*Summary of this Hijab talk* - Ruling of Hijab came down to 5H - Surah An-Noor c24 v31 mentions Khumur "Let them draw their veils over their chests" - Khumur is the plural of Khimar that has root word khamar (Conceal, Cover). Earlier times, in Arabs, Khimar was any head covering for man or woman. - Surah Ahzab c33 v59 (Jilbab) "O Prophet! Ask your wives, daughters, and believing women to draw their cloaks over their bodies." - The modern day term Hijab is what the Quran refers to as Khimar. Khimar => Hijab - Those days, ladies of every tribe and culture would cover their head and through the hanging loose ends of clothes behind their neck. - What the Quran says - head scarf (Khumur) should be loose and let the hanging cloth come down to cover the chest in front of non-mahram. - The Quran mandates both Khimar and Jilbab for women. - Hijab in Quran is used as a curtain specifically for Prophet's wives c33 v53 "And when you believers ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier.", This curtain is not a compulsion on other women. - Burqa and Niqab worlds are not mentioned in the Quran.

I have a question. My husband (and I) believe that a hat covering the hair and the ears with a scarf wrapped around the neck that covers the neck and chest meets the headscarf requirements (provided of course that the rest of the clothing covers obviously). So in otherwords it meets the "hijab" (modern-day hijab term) requirements. So it doesn't need to be an Islamic stereotypical headscarf so long as the head, hair, neck and chest is covered. Would you agree?

You don't need a stereotypical hijab. There are already different styles in different countries. I think some African countries have this tradational hat style covering they use to cover their hair. You could technically wear a beanie and a hoodie on top and you would be meeting the requirement. Only thing with going into these other options is that sometimes you start focusing on style and looks, whohc defeats one of the purposes of hijab.

Always a good presentation by Dr Qadhi. I completely agree with modesty and I accept that the khimaar is a given in our way of life. However, this is a general discussion. Growing up in Muslim Joburg, wearing a headscarf didn’t mean you were modest. Actually quite the opposite 😂 in fact it’s the reason why I choose to be a sinner and not wear the headscarf, I prefer showing modesty with akhlaaq rather than dressing.

Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute! So, basically men only need to make sure their privates are covered, and this suffices as being a modest way of dressing? From the navel to the knee (22:09)? So bulking up and showing out on the beach is ok? Men really act like women don't have desires and temptations as well. Just read the story of the prophet Yusuf (AS) and you can understand. I was really coming in with an open mind, but... this seems to hold a bias. I'm learning Arabic so that I can really understand what these verses mean in shaa Allah. When words literally mean one thing, and people interpret them to be suggesting something else, it just lets me know I really need to understand this myself because there seems to be a subjective aspect to Qur'anic interpretation. Anywho, Allah knows best. I do commend people like this sheik though for trying to positively change the way society is going, especially in terms of the way women are increasingly compromising their purity and self-respect, and making an impact on men in this regard too.

From my understanding, showing off is not allowed and Allah even asks with men to guard their gaze. As to why only cover between navel and knee, it is because men used to work hard under hot sun or had lack of clothing. You say that but many men still don’t cover this area and some wear right clothes in this area too so it is still somewhat more As for reasoning, women are less attracted to men generally I believe due to lower testosterone levels and a smaller SDN, and so less has to be covered BUT from what I understand, both men and women aren’t really meant to wear clothes that purposefully encourage strange gazes so if a man is purposefully showing off his six pack and making a strange face at the camera, that is no longer ok. Both men and women are taught to lower their gazes from what attracts them too and taught to stay away from what leads to sin- (all is from what I understand)
@AbdullahMikalRodriguez
@AbdullahMikalRodriguez 28 күн бұрын
I don't see how people can't see the flaws in this type of interpretation... the Qur'an never explicitly mandates a headcovering. It makes the cultural assumption that the women are already wearing a khimar. For a culture in which the khimar/hijab is not the norm (like the west), we cannot mandate the hijab. It really shouldnt be mandated by law at all since It was never the practice of the sahaba and the people of Medina to mandate hijab anyway. This is between a woman and her lord. In fact Umar ibn al Khattab forbid the non believing women of Medina to wear hijab to distinguish them from the muslim women. There is also a lot of nuance to the history of the scholarly opinion in this area. Slave women used to not even cover their breasts in Medina. This not purely a sexual issue yet that is often how it is articulated by many contemporary scholars. It's disappointing that the hijab is always framed as a way to mitigate male proclivity to gaze at women and yet the deeper spiritual significance of the hijab and its beauty are always ignored. Dress modestly. That is the quranic principle. Is the hijab the optimal and best way for Muslim women to dress modestly? Yes. We should encourage the hijab and teach its importance. However it should not be forced upon women and it is not a fard.
