This is why it is so important for our religious scholars to have high level of secular understanding to connect the dots and draw the bigger picture, like it was done here.

Priorities indeed; we have to build emaan first!! ..hypocrisy in media is obvious.-and the whole discussion is not about human rights, it suits their own narrative, it supports an illegitimate cause....Great analysis ..Alhamdulillah the current generation, sister Maha and alikes, have a huge advantage with the available extensive elaborations . InshaAllah the worth of such efforts will be reckoned. May Allah reward you and give you the strength to continue with the bright insights you are providing!

It's unfortunate that so many groups who claim to be "establishing the sharia" focus so much on enforcing rules and punishment before laying the foundations of a working society. Like the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was the entire sharia revealed all at once. These things take time.

So, what I heard in the long winded answer was 2 things: 1. Western interests in highlighting this situation for geopolitical reasons and not from any concern for the citizens or women of that region. 2. Given the opportunity, he would also enforce hijab not as the first priority but eventually somewhere on his path from 0-100!!!! At least he is honest. However, the question still remains, does Islam allow rulers to enforce personal worship? (not public decency standards). The answer would also apply to other questions of Fasting (not publicly consuming food in Ramadan) or Praying 5 times a day in the mosque. When mullahs start assuming they have some kind of god given right to enforce standards of worship, they distort Islam and start enforcing a religion of their understanding.

The Prophet (pbuh) took a wide array of factors into consideration when asked for advice by the companions and others in his midst. Islam prioritizes and gives weight to certain principles, values and commandments over others. I believe YQ has studied the life of the Prophet (pbuh) and the Quran to the extent that he incorporates this beautiful sunnah of our beloved Prophet into his religious opinion. I really appreciate him for that. And it's not just on KZbin, he was the imam at the mosque I attend in Memphis and his consideration was evident in the way he interacted with the community. Salaam.

I’m bit confused by the statement of our respected Shaykh, when he says that if he was in charge, the maqasid of the shariah comes first, meaning safety and security, and with a process of incremental changes and tarbiyah then you will reach a stage to legislate morality and religiosity. However he then brings the example of a country in the Middle East, that spent generations preaching tawheed, and proper tarbiyah, but has changed trajectory in a diametrically opposite direction and the Awam have embraced the Fahisha, doesn’t this just prove the point that we are fighting a loosing battle against western hegemony and their influence? And the only way to push back is to legislate morality and religiosity.

Do we appreciate the blessings in our life? Do we understand the creator that gave us all our blessings (such as our 5 senses)? Isn’t Allah the most merciful? Isn’t He generous? Isn’t He the greatest? Haven’t you thought about these thing? Haven’t you felt love for Allah? And would you love Allah to love you back? Here’s a Hadith where Allah says he loves his slave who perform obligatory acts! Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Allah, the Exalted, has said: 'I will declare war against him who treats with hostility a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved thing with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (voluntary prayers or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) until I love him, (so much so that) I become his hearing with which he hears, and his sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he strikes, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me something, I will surely give him, and if he seeks My Protection (refuge), I will surely protect him". [Al-Bukhari] THE HIJAB IS AN OBLIGATORY ACT! If you truly love Allah then obey Him and He will love you back. Do optional good deeds (Nawafil) and Allah will have a close relationship with you! Isn’t HE sufficient enough!? Stop pleasing the people, and start pleasing the one who created you!

One thing that people always miss is that all these "freedoms" with the bikini etc comes with the caveat that the woman must have a totally bald body, can't show a SINGLE grey hair on their head and can't have moustaches or facial hair. That in no way shape or form sounds like any sort of freedom. Especially considering the labour, expense and pain one has to go through to fit this standard. There is no "total freedom"

Great lecture. I disagree with one aspect, where you pointed out at ulemas way of preaching is not correct as people are welcoming modern changes opposed to religion. We can find this in the time of prophets. Just after the death of Prophet, his followers believed in false prophets, denied giving zakah, and just after crossing the red sea miraculously followers of musa worshipped cow idol. That doesnt prophet muhammed, prophet musa methodology of preaching is wrong, thats how people are, their desires take over spirituality except few.

It's appalling the lack of compassion so much of our Ummah has about a woman being tortured and killed over something so menial. This Ummah is truly lost and embarrassing. Killing an innocent soul is one of the most detestable things mentioned by Allah swt and yet so many of you will let that pass over the most minor offense committed by this young lady. Huge shame on such ugly-hearted people. Our religion was meant as a mercy for mankind, not whatever so many of you have turned it into.

We know that no society would in future or (had in the past, not even the sahabas society, coz they also had sinners and munafiqoons ) ever reached the hundred percent with it's full strength. There would always be number of people who either don't want to move beyond 5 or 10 level, or who are disbelievers. What would you do as a ruler of such a society? Keep waiting till eternity to have a full strength (or majority) reach to the 100 level? or implement the Sharia despite vehement & violent opposition from those people of that territory and the meddling of external forces (such as the terrorist state of America today).

You cannot just allow a forbidden for "we living in western nation" as prophet clearly told whatever forbidden stay away 100%, there wouldn't be an excuse for doing it and living a luxury life in western kufr nation while you have opportunity to migrate a better place to any muslim country where you can stay away from those acts.. Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “What I have forbidden you, stay away from. What I have ordered you [to do], do as much of it as you can. Verily, the people before you were destroyed only because of their excessive questioning and their disagreeing with their Prophets.” [Recorded by al-Bukhari and Muslim.] Summary of the Hadith If something is prohibited, one must stay away from it completely. The only exception to that is the true cases of necessity. Due to necessity, an act may no longer be considered prohibited. If something is ordered, one must perform it to the best of his ability. It is not possible to completely and excellently perform everything that one is ordered to do. Hence, the Prophet (peace be upon him) has stated the cases of prohibition and order in different tones. Asking too many questions, beyond what is needed and not with the real intent of application, is blameworthy. It was one of the reasons that prior peoples were destroyed. Similarly, differing with any prophet is completely blameworthy. Instead of accepting and submitting, prior peoples showed some form of opposition to what their prophets requested of them. This was the second major cause for their destruction. booksofmuslims.wordpress.com/40-hadiths/hadith-9/

Still, we did not get the answer to the question, "In an ideal Islamic government, can the Hijab still be enforced?" Many scholars have opined that even in an ideal state, the Hijab cannot be enforced and it is upto the individual. However, a minimum dress code can be enforced but not the headcovering. That is the question our Sheikh seems to have avoided. Nevertheless, this does not apply to other matters such as alcohol, drugs, abortion, homosexuality, fornication, adultery, pornography, marijuana and other matters which may seemingly only involve the self. In an ideal Islamic government, these matters will be enforced but still not the Hijab. The important distinction or point to make is that not all spiritual mandates were intended to be made legal mandates even in an ideal Islamic government. That point is a very important one to make. You cannot force your way into someone's house or legally enforce someone to pray or fast or harass them for not doing so even in an ideal Islamic government. The value of understanding this compass as to where we may be headed (usually practically only an utopia) is still relevant. Sheikh has avoided his usual style of going into various scholarly opinions as to whether the Hijab can be enforced in an ideal Islamic government and what Islamic theory says on the matter. I wish that could have been the 10th point.

@@DeitritusFillamore At which part did the Sheikh address the part regarding whether the Hijab can be legally enforced in an ideal Islamic Government and the various scholarly opinions regarding it? Can you please point it? And if that is there, I can remove this comment or post a more relevant response.

@@yasirahmed9975 he said it was part of our sharia and that Muslim lands should strive for it. However he made the caveat that the people need to be made to have iman in their hearts first. I mean come on he was as blunt as possible

@@DeitritusFillamore Salaam bro, that is exactly the vagueness I am referring to. Praying 5 times is part of the Shariah. Doing ghusl after sexual activity is part of the Shariah. Fasting is part of the Shariah. And yes, we should strive for them in an Islamic land. Now the question is the scope of Shariah and 'striving' in political/legal life. You cannot punish someone from not praying 5 times a day nor can you enforce legally someone to do ghusl. The real question is whether and what spiritual mandates were intended to be legal mandates in an ideal Islamic government. We can all strive to spread the Hijab culture, but if ultimately people do not choose to wear, what is the legal consequence for it? Is there a hudud or tazir punishment? If yes, what is the basis for that conclusion? Do all Islamic scholars agree on the legal consequences of not wearing the Hijab. Did the Prophet (pbuh) explicitly intend it to be applied legally, meaning that there were going to be legal consequences for not wearing them or was it an emphasized recommendation. There is no doubt that it is spiritually mandatory, but the question is whether the state can impose it on an individual even in ideal circumstances. That is the answer that Sheikh has not gone into which is actually the crux of the debate.

You make it seem like a small matter to enforce hijab, but this is a huge issue for women. Even as I happily wear hijab, I do so knowing I did so myself, I feel empowered that it's my choice. How can a Muslim nation enforce that which is between her and God? Do they enforce men's sports uniforms? Or beards? Or no because there are opinions that men's awrah is literally only their genitals and beards are only optional? Well then you see the problem - that women are restricted and policed for SO much. And what if the government says that hijab consists of chador and niqab and that she shouldn't be seen or heard and should stay home in the kitchen? Ridiculous rules I'm glad we don't have such a system. I disagree that Muslim nations should enforce hijab unless 100% of the Muslim women are happy by themselves to wear it...

The same argument can be applied for drugs , alcohol , pornography , in many Muslim nations during Ramadan eating in public (for both Muslims and non muslims) is prohibited.......... Even these things are just between you and Allah, what are you gonna say about this? I understand you can't force someone to do something but again in between the hijab issue you have to consider them as well Following Deen is itself between you and Allah, so what do you say about this ?

Read surah Araf and one can know the hidden agenda of puppets of iblees jumping on bandwagon with all these protests. Then Satan tempted them in order to expose what was hidden of their nakedness. [7:20] O children of Adam! We have provided for you clothing to cover your nakedness and as an adornment. However, the best clothing is righteousness. This is one of Allah’s bounties, so perhaps you will be mindful. [7:26]
