We reach higher levels of awareness through sharing our life experiences, getting clear on our dreams, uncovering our ideas, and shifting our perspectives. Keep listening as host Luke Iorio interviews the thought-leaders and unsung heroes of today.
--------------------------------
Who are you and what makes you whole? Do you have triggers such as sounds or scents that remind you of a familiar feeling? Why do you look at the world the way you do? So many of your questions can be answered by scientist and Professor of Psychiatry, Dr. Stephen Porges, whose current work is unlocking the ways we can see another side of ourselves--our truest form.
Stephen is a distinguished University scientist at Indiana University where he’s the Founding Director of the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium. He's a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina and Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Chicago as well as the University of Maryland. Stephen has served as president of the Society for Psychophysiological Research and the Federation of Associations in Behavioral & Brain Sciences. He’s a former recipient of the National Institute of Mental Health Research Scientist Development Award.
Stephen has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and in 1994 he first proposed and pioneered the Polyvagal Theory, a theory that links the evolution of the mammalian autonomic nervous system to social behavior and emphasizes the importance of the physiological state in the expression of behavioral problems and psychiatric disorders.
Listen in and learn more about who you are--more now than ever!
Kay Takeaways:
Butterfly effect. Did you know we go through three evolutionary stages directly linked to those of vertebrates? To be clear, mammals are vertebrate and humans are mammals. The correlation between the two is eye-opening on how it affects your physiological state, let alone your health. Your THREE transformative stages are . . . [13:41].
Tranquility zone. Did you know that you have triggers that give you a sense of security? The sounds of certain music or someone’s voice are a couple of them. All your senses slowly drop, as do your defenses. There are simple ways to develop this sense of safety in ourselves and in others, start HERE . . . [25:34].
Connection boost. Did you know there’s no such thing as winning an argument? Once a person becomes physical--such as crossing their arms or retracting in some way--the conversation is over and therefore, the discussion is over. Winning isn’t an option. To strengthen any relationship-work, home, social-give these TWO evaluation methods a try . . . [39:44].
Tune in and turn the volume up for a dose of inspiration and life lessons. You’re never more than One Idea Away from a whole, new reality.

This is the absolute best -- most in-depth and complete discussion of Polyvagal Theory -- with Dr. Porges I've found. I've watched 14 (60- to 90-min.) interviews so far (there are more), so thank you Luke for your insightful questions that made this one such a standout.

I’ve just had a realization that the leader or center person in a group is most likely the person who can co regulate the best. Therefore I would think that person can send the greatest level of safety signals to other people and easily receive them.

Many many new insights I got from this interview. I thank you so much. Co-regulate ... that resonated most. As a man with trauma history I use(d) to isolate and only regulate. Use(d) media, substances, behavior that turned compulsive. I‘ll go now and help my partner and keep in mind it is an opportunity to coregulate and get better at intimacy. 🙏🏼

It's uncanny, but I missed or didn't understand this segment until I started studying Polyvagal Theory in my own coaching continuing education. I have watched many presentations explaining the theory, but this is the one that hit home the best, producing a good understanding of what it is and how it relates to coaching. I'm pretty amazed that in my search for a broader understanding of PT, I happened upon this presentation that turned out to be a product of my "alma mater of coaching," iPEC! Good work, Luke!

Was full of awesome information, however, I felt like the host and the speaker appeared to be competing for sharing ideas...we have to learn to slow down and not say so much, especially when we are talking about something so crucial...the interrupting was distracting. :) Otherwise, fantastic information. Thank you..

The host really needs to be an interviewer...ask and let the person he is interviewing answer, being quiet while that happens. (Unless it's already understood that it is going to be a discussion or conversation.) Good interviewers are rare. It's frustrating, especially when you really want the info. If the host wants to do a bunch of his/her own talking, it's easy enough to do solo videos.

@@rosisunny9302 they are offering the safe and sound protocol via tele health now due to covid using a phone app. I start Wednesday! I'm excited 😁 You are correct. I have been through many therapists until now where I have found one I like :)
@AtypicalPaul
@AtypicalPaul 3 жыл бұрын
@Anna Eli integratedlistening.com/talk-to-an-expert/ They call you and talk with you to see if the protocol is a good fit for you and your needs. If so they will set you up with a therapist and you will have an interview with them about what it is like etc and the total cost of the program is $325 which to me isn't bad at all for what you are getting. The 10 day program, access to talk to the therapist during and after your protocol program to talk about it. It is a very soothing experience. You listen to 30 minutes of music they give you through an app for 10 days. The results aren't instant and take 1 to 9 weeks to get the full results after doing the protocol therapy. I just finished last week but I can tell that my baseline anxiety has already improved. I look forward to more benefit as well as after 3 months you may repeat the protocol at a discounted price if you would like to.

That's why environment is key. I wish Porges could feel those who energetically rape others bodies and minds - then he would know what kind of reptilian predators we are really dealing with and why there's no safety. Yes frequency is key and when you have mass consciousness in the shadow frequency then those who can feel it, it ain't a safe world. He needs to talk about Stockholm syndrome.

Your microphone is pointing at your hands which is why your sound is not as good as it could be. I respectfully suggest that you bring the microphone to a position below your mouth and to one side if your wish, and point it up.towards your mouth. It will sound very much better. yup, polybagal theory clears up a WHOLE lot of crappy beliefs we've developed, and its an organizing principle like Einstein's General Relativity, only Polyvagal theory is a unifying theory about social human behavior.
