I'm fairly new to Mate' and drink it all day long. I'm completely hooked on the flavor and mental clarity. I find NO sleep disturbances and really enjoy it.

I drink mate in the afternoon lately and I find that I sleep more deeply, wake up easier and have more dreams. I read somewhere that it causes more REM sleep; not sure if that is true.

another tip is that some people like to pour oil or butter (better butter) when curing the gour because it makes it more leak proof. Sometimes if you start seeing cracks on the gour is not a bad idea to put some butter into it a let it rest for some time, sometimes the butter can leak proof some small cracks. On the other hand some people like to cure the gour with whisky or vodka (never done that)

You videos prompted me to give mate a try. I bought some mate tea bags, and made rather strong tea, which provided effects that I really appreciated. After a few days, I decided to take your advice and bought a gourd that I tried for the first time today. I drank about 3/4 of a liter through the gourd in just a few hours and now I'm feeling a bit edgy and not quite as good as I felt from mate tea bags. Is it your experience that 3/4 of a liter might be a bit too much in a few hours time, especially for someone new, or do you suspect that my edginess today might be the result of something else? For what it's worth, I'm drinking my mate cold. Even with today's edginess, I still appreciate you and your videos for turning me onto mate. It's already replaced my coffee intake and I'm also swearing off energy drinks. Even more important it's lowered my desire for cigarettes drastically, and I'm smoking 50% less cigarettes than before starting mate, which is a huge health benefit in and of itself. Even with with today's edginess, it's been a huge health benefit to me in just a few days. I thank you Sir. P.S. Also sleeping better and more focused throughout the day.

You have technified a complete process for sorber mate. The container is called "Mate", the shredded leaf of the plant is called "Yerba Mate", the sorbet is called "bombilla." Only Uruguayanos and the inhabitants of Buenos Aires use thermos because they are people living in an urban area. In Argentina, a provincial inhabitant uses a container called "pava" with hot water but without reaching boiling. For a province in northern Argentina, "el mate" is more delicious when it is bitter (without sugar), and you can also drink accompanied by homemade tortillas (flour, salt and cow fat) made in the heat of the fathoms. In northern Argentina, occasionally, this can be consumed with additional herbs that enrich the flavor. In the field it is very common because it calms the stomach for long days of work and there is no time to cook. The person only needs to boil water. Greetings from Argentina.

Another tip is that normally you don't clean the gour, because it's said that mate will taste better without never cleaning the gour. Some people clean them anyways. In my humble opinion if you drink mate once a week it's obviously better to clean it because the yerba mate will rot and can rot or weaken the wood of the gour, if you drink everyday it's ok to not clean it (it's not lazyness it's the tradition). If you want to clean it everyday anyways, I think it's ok, I think you are not breaking any rule. I think it's more like a myth; I can't tell the difference between a clean gour and unclean one. But you should never clean the gour with detergent because the wood will eventually absorb the detergent smell, only with hot water.

Can I leave mate in the gourd overnight and resume drinking it in the morning?
@TheOliverin5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't advise it. it creates bacteria. some people take it off the gourd, put the used yerba in the fridge in tupperware, then microwave it slightly to warm up and then resume back in the gourd. I never do that. better to plan when is mate time or else take it to go, have all people watch us as the mate freaks we are!

I've done this every day and I only noticed that the taste was weak. I would still advise against it.

I like to drink Canarias for 90 minutes, then take a 90 minute break, and resume for another 3 hours after adding twice as many leaves. You give me the whole day, I can go through 11 tbs easy ;)
@manuduran6956 жыл бұрын
And in my opinion the best gours are made of quebracho. (just my opinion) The taste of yerba mate on a new quebracho gour for me has no equal (ofc you have to cure it before). A lot of people like to collect gours because depending on the type of wood the mate will taste different. That's the fun thing about wooden gours and that's why wooden gours are more popular than plastic or glass.

I hit it hard and then toss it. I am only drinking Rosamante Especial and get a 3 pack of the 2.2 on Amazon for a little over 9 bucks each, which is a nice deal. I am also cold brewing it in a pitcher overnight with a handful of hibiscus flower (dried) and a little honey.

Hi Dave, I have a question for you. Why does my mate get more and more bitter after the first or second cycle? I am using Taragui, filling the mate up halfway, and using a water temperature of 175F. By about the 5th cycle, it is almost undrinkable.
@Circleofdrink2 жыл бұрын
That doesn't sound right. The bitterness should lessen with every cycle. You may have a bad batch. Taragui is low quality yerba.

The Canarias yerba mate is planted in Brazil but the recipe or standard is Uruguayan, the yerba mate they drink in Brazil is very different from the one produced for the Uruguayan consumer and the Argentine yerbas is not liked in Uruguay
@132ger7 жыл бұрын
Hello Dave, i would like to ask a question. When you say that from a strong yerba like Canarias, you get 40-50 cycles, those cycles are from the first hemisphere or both? For example, you get 25 draws from the first hemisphere and 25 more from the other half or 50 from 1st and 50 from the other? Great video btw
@Circleofdrink7 жыл бұрын
Hey! I'm usually referring to "flooding the mate" when you pour over everything. Even so, with a relatively strong mate, you'll get at least 1--20 pours on each site (hemisphere).

This video is basically how to complicate mate drinking. Let me simplify it for you. Buy what you can find, put the yerba in the mate cup and use a bombilla (mate straw) filter if it keeps clogging.
@Circleofdrink3 жыл бұрын
easy peasy!
@manuduran6956 жыл бұрын
If your bombilla is clogged then you throw it and get a new one. They don't last long. I prefer uruguayan bombillas we call them "spoon" bombillas. Sometimes, when it starts to get a strange taste, I like to clean them with baker soda on boiling water, but that's poor people who do that, I do it because really big spoon uruguayan bombillas are not so easy to find and are more expensive. But usually normal people will just throw it away and get a new one.
@Circleofdrink6 жыл бұрын
I've never thrown away a bombilla for being clogged. It's fairly easy to unclog a bombilla with running hot water through it or, worst case, boiling it with water, lemon, and baking soda. Salud! :)
