The funniest part about this is that the newer Touhou games (LoLK onwards) could perfectly have been referencing UT/DR in some way, especially the CORE - Keiki's motif part, considering recent news about ZUN and Toby Fox's friendship (and most importantly, the Kagura dual arrange)

I doubt LoLK specifically could be be referenced in Undertale, or vice versa. The full version of LoLK only released a month before Undertale did, during which Toby Fox would have been doing playtesting and bug fixing, so it would've been impossible to reference it's music. Even the demo's music seems like it would be a tight fit to get into the game. However, it's possible that ZUN did start adding nods to Undertale's music starting in HSiFS.

I wouldn't say that many of these are stretches, but rather nearly all of them are examples of s form of song writing that Michael Jackson once deseribed as " you need to be able to hum the chorus without lyrics." Asriel has many things tied with Marisa. 1. Star attacks. 2. Marisa’s Master Spark is similar to Asriel’s blast attack with the gun thingy. 3. Asriel can use colorful beams of lights for attacks (Shocker Breaker) and so can Marisa. 4. Asriel’s attacks are the only attacks that have names, goddammit. At least in UNDERTALE. Similar to spellcards. 5. Asriel’s final form can shoot that huge laser, and Marisa’s Master Spark is also similar.

It feels strange that Asriel is such a blatant reference to Sariel from HRtP. Like, the names are anagrams of each other, they are both associated with death and that’s not even mentioning the fact that the weird clothes all of the Dreemurs wear is almost the same as hers.

​​​​@@Alexander247 some of the later 2hu songs in this video were from games that came out after 2015 and shared similar sounding motifs with Undertale but not earlier 2hu games, thus ZUN taking inspiration from Toby Fox too. Edit: Mainly Keiki's Theme and Electric Heritage coming from Touhou 17 and Zanmu's theme from Touhou 19 apparrently sounding similar to Hopes and Dreams and the Touhou 16 EX stage theme sounding like Amalgam. 2hu 16, 17, and 19 came out in 2017, 2019, and 2023 respectively, while Undertale debuted in 2015.
