The fish at 6:24 looked like an Almaco Jack.....although it was hard to see it clearly because of so much movement. If it in fact was an Almaco, they made good table fare.

Love the way you use the underwater drone! By the way if you’re in the gulf past 9 miles, scamp grouper are 16in size minimum. Mangrove snappers increase to 12in size minimum

Great Video John. So good to see Doc and Sweeney. The 3 John’s are back on the water. So happy to see the sweenster traded in his Bataan death March hat for a new model. He certainly knows how to put you on the fish! Where’s John Halkias????

Good morning John. Another great video from you. I’m a North Eastern fan also , from Maine. I keep saying one of these days I’m in Florida, I’d love to go fishing with you. Keep the videos coming and I’ll keep watching. Lol Tight line and bending rods is my favorite thing to do !!! 🏔🌊🎣

John your videos are getting me through the winter as I’m in the northeast. I’m going on vacation to captiva next month and will be using the knowledge gained from your channel! Do you ever feel compelled to put out content and fish to justify that means? Or are the videos just a chronicle of the obsession?
@PufflesDaViking8 ай бұрын
Pretty sure those are Almaco Jacks, and they are quite good actually.

The underwater stuff is so insightful if you’re a pupil of the community 🎣. I definitely learned how to tog jig way better from your content, so thanks. I would need a wireless drone 😂. Way too many old piers and snags where I would want to see tog holes from shore.
@pennyan20579 ай бұрын
Should paint the drone a mottled grey like the groupers, though they didn't seem too freaked out by it. Do they make a wireless drone yet? If not I'm sure my grandkids kids will have one to break!!

What line, topshot, backing would you recommend for targeting big gags etc, doing a trip down in the gulf early September

Sorry, I'm not a good resource for that fishing. I don't get out in the Gulf much, as most of my Florida fishing is inshore.

Great video. Have a question John. Been fishing creeks in North Carolina for trout and this one creek these big trout keep coming out of the water like dolphin. Just there backs out and then back down. Not going after bait but just seem happy. Only able to pick 1-2 off but there were a bunch doing that. Why are they doing that? Have you seen them do this? Thanks
@JohnSkinnerFishing8 ай бұрын
If they're freshwater trout, I've heard that some fish leap and land to break up eggs. Not really sure though.

John - would that drone work (visibility wise) in our northern fishery? 60-80' off NY/NJ.
@JohnSkinnerFishing8 ай бұрын
It will depend on water clarity. If you think the water is super clear, then you're probably OK. If you think it's a little off, then you're likely to be disappointed.

Interesting that yours does the same. I guess it's a bearing. Maybe the line roller bearing?

I think mangroves caught off shore have to be 12". Should check.
@JohnSkinnerFishing9 ай бұрын
Yep. 12 inches in federal waters. Thanks for that. We still would have been fine size-wise with the few that we kept, but good to know. It really takes some effort to keep on the right side of the regs in Florida between all of the different species and changing seasons and limits. Thanks again. I'll let my boat friends know.
