When you could meet somebody new and basically reinvent yourself if you wanted and find out about them from your time together not their online profile, when after you left the school gates behind the school bully couldn't bully you, when your boss couldn't contact you on your day off if you just didn't pick up because 'you were out', when if you went out for the day nobody could bother you, when different regions within the same country had their own unique culture and language, when you would write a letter to stay in touch, when you didn't need a smart phone to use local facilities, when you got the news just once or twice a day in a paper or on the T.V. in the evening. I can't upvote your comments enough. Globalization really had an impact on us and certainly not for the better. Amazing to read these things that used to be the basics of life for everyone and are today unthinkable.
