When talking GOATS of the NBA, the conversation always starts and ends with Michael Jordan and LeBron James. However, LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul, gave one argument why he's siding with the King, recently saying quote: 'The road for LeBron was just as hard, if not harder than the road was for Michael.' Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe debate whether they agree with Paul or not.

Lol MJ never had to worry about a comparison?...this is a strawman that people are saying people want lebron to do it like MJ. Lebron did it the soft way. He joined superteams and still got butchered most of the time. He has only gotten any blame in the 11 series. When lebron his quit on his team in multiple series. Lebron ran through a weak East on mostly superteams. Lebron is a media goat.

Micheal Jordan, excluding the 94-97 seasons, when the NBA moved the three point line to 22 feet, was a career 28% three point shooter. LeBron James is a career 34% three point shooter Micheal Jordan was a great defensive player, in an Era where you could handcheck. Playing defense is much easier when you can handcheck. People never vouched for MJ being the greatest because especially people who grew up watching MJ and then went on to see all those all time greats of which Lebron is one of them, 9 out of 10 times say MJ is the greatest. The majority of the people who do think he's the greatest are mostly fans who havent even seen the prime of Tim Duncan or Kobe let alone MJ and people like Shannon who have built their entire media careers around talking about Lebron. I think the grand majority of people who do not see Lebron as the GOAT honestly darn well know how incredible Lebron is. They just do not think he's the GOAT.
@Dotsetc
@Dotsetc 2 жыл бұрын
Added I mean look at Shannon saying that 'only MJ gets praise for losing a finals'. Not true. Jerry West literally got a FMVP losing the finals and the reason why MJ gained praise is because he had a horrible team vs the best team in the league who had 4 All Stars type players(basically comparable to GS) and dropped not any performance but the GREATEST SINGLE SERIES PERFOMANCE in NBA history with the MOST POINTS IN NBA HISTORY in only his second full season in the league. Except for some childish haters I also have seen nobody portray Lebron's performance with only a barely healthy Kevin Love against Golden State as 'meh'. The difference is that he did that for one game in the series. MJ burned down on the Celtics every single game averaging 43 points overall nearly as much as that one game of Lebron who was actually in his prime unlike Jordan. Jordan faced his GS in the first round in only his second season, without any help, breaking the scoring record for both a series and a game. That's the difference. Doesnt mean Lebron doesnt get praised for that game vs GS. Honestly that was the game he actually gained his praise from a lot people who never praised him.

So leaving and joining/building a team with two other superstars 3 different times and going through a way easier Eastern conference was harder? Mike stayed with ONE team and played with one other all star which was Scottie Pippen who was drafted by the Bulls and then they traded for Dennis Rodman and the rest were role players. That Bulls team was built organically just like the Warriors of today, he didn’t build teams and join superstars to win. I don’t wanna hear that LeBron's path was harder when time and time again he’s chose the "Join a super team and win" route and still has only got him 4 rings. He's lucky to have 2 of those (Ray Allen shot and Miami losing two of their best players the first game in the 2020 Finals and still taking them to game 6)🤷‍♂️

What a stupid take on Lebron's era. Michael wasnt calling every superstar creating the next "big 3". That was all Lebron's era. Michael stayed true and humble. Jordan's era was 10 more physical and the golden era of ball. Jordan is more relatable than Lebron. People like Jordan because he didnt alienate half the fanbase. (Lebrons comments on white people and not having white friends). Jordan was quoted saying "Republicans buy shoes to". There was just a fundamental difference between the two. You can tell Jordan had a structured life growing up. Shows how important it is to have a father present during a young boys venture to manhood. The maturity difference is night and day.

I’ve never understood that point. Also, “Michael Jordan is the only one who gets lauded in a losing performance. We’ve never seen that before” is completely untrue. Bron is the main superstar who gets passes for losing efforts. Anytime you speak on a Bron loss, what do people say? “Yeah but look at his numbers” “he had no help”. Neither was LeBron's father murdered, only to see him overcome that ultimate challenge and return to the top of the sport. This award was spread around because MJ received so many other awards. This was called the SBDPOY award (Second Best DPOY) •1 more season MVP •9 more scoring titles •3 more steals leader •3 more all defensive team selections •4000 more points / Lebron moved past him in playoff points, but it took him longer. •800 more steals •Beat 20 50+ win teams in the playoffs (Lebron only defeated 10) •Jordan never averaged less than 40% Field Goal in the finals Lebron did it twice •6/6 (never allowed a game 7) •Lebron had much more offensive help, example: Jordan never had a teammate average more than 22 points in the finals.. In fact, Mj is Only player in NBA history to lead a team to the championship with only one teammate averaging double figures in scoring * In the Bulls’ 1997 playoff run, Scottie Pippen averaged 19 points per game on 42% shooting. All other teammates of Jordan averaged under 8 points per game Kyrie averaged over 28 and DWade averaged more than 26 •MJ never ever had a finals meltdown like Lebron in 2011 against the Mavs •MJ had more points in the playoffs in less games.. MJ accomplished all of this in 13 seasons Lebron after his 14th season, is still chasing the “ghost (GOAT) that played in Chicago” •Michael Jordan in the playoffs has put up atleast 40ppg, 5rpg, 5apg in 6 different playoff series. Along with an average of about 55% shooting, 3spg and 2bpg. (86 vs bos, 89 vs cavs, 90 vs philly, 92 vs Miami, 93 vs Phoenix, 88 vs cavs) Jordan won every one of those matchups except for the 1986 matchup vs the celtics. •Jordan in 88-89 averaged 32ppg, 8apg, 8rpg, 3spg off 54% shooting. LeBron has never even came close to this stat line. •in 87 thru 92, MJ averaged 5 straight seasons of atleast 51% FG shooting. LeBron has never done this. •the lowest FT% MJ ever shot in a season was 78%. Lebrons highest in a season ever is 78%. •MJ has a higher playoff FG% of 48.7% to Lebrons 48.3% •MJ has a higher playoff player efficiency rating of 28.6 to Lebrons 27.3. •MJ shoots a higher playoff 3 point percentage of 33.2% to Lebrons 32.9% •LeBron James has scored 30 points, 416 times in 1,117 games. Michael Jordan did it 562 times in 1,072 games. Jordan won 6 championships without losing a final in 1,072 games and LeBron in 1,117 games has lost 5 times and has only won 3 times (updated 2018) •MJ also shocked the league by being the first (and only) player to have 100 blocks and 200 steals in the same season, then turned around and did it again the next year.. •Mj also has more career blocks (893) than Lebron James (853) despite playing in 22 LESS career games and being the smaller guy. Also, MJ averaged 1.6 blocks per game in the 1987-88 season which is absolutely bonkers for a 6’6″ shooting guard. Seriously this list can keep going. This isn’t even a debate. Mj is the GOAT. MIchael Jordan: •NBA record 5 playoffs series’ averaging atleast 40ppg •Only player in history to lead league in scoring and win DPOY •Highest scoring average, points per game, in any championship series: 41.0 vs. Phoenix Suns, 1993 NBA Finals •Only rookie in NBA history to lead his team in four statistics (1984-85) •Only player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring, win Most Valuable Player, and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season (1987-88) •Only player in history to average at least 30pts 6reb 5assists And 2 steals per game AND HE DID IT 7 TIMES. •Only player in NBA history to win Rookie of the Year (1984-85), Defensive Player of the Year (1987-88), NBA MVP (1987-88, 1990-91, 1991-92, 1995-96, 1997-98), All-Star MVP (1988, 1996, 1998), and Finals MVP (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998) •Only player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring and win the NBA championship MORE THAN ONCE in the same season * He did this SIX TIMES!! (1990-91, 1991-92, 1992-93, 1995-96, 1996-97, 1997-98) •One of two players in NBA history to score 3,000 points in a season: 3,041 points scored in 82 games played (37.1 ppg) (1986-87) * Wilt Chamberlain is the only other player to achieve this. •MJ is also the only player in NBA history to score over 40 points at age 40, and he did it twice! •In 1988, MJ earned: Dunk Champ, All Star Game MVP, NBA Scoring Title, League MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. Michael in only ELEVEN complete seasons with the Bulls: -10 scoring titles, -Won Defensive Player of the Year, -9 times all defensive team, -9time All NBA, -5 league MVPs -6 finals MVPs All 11 seasons. Mj has done in 11 seasons things Lebron hasn’t done and won’t do in his whole career… Two 3-peats 6-0 in the finals Never played a game 7 Jordan's the "ultimate closer" LeBron was just swept 0-4 in the finals

I’d argue that LeBron had the advantage by coming to the league early. Jordan did have a great coach in College but LeBron was given a chance to enter the league much earlier at a younger age giving him more years to succeed and also giving him more years to adapt to the NBA. And he also had an advantage with defenders since his second year, hand-checking was removed giving him a better chance to play much more physical offensively which helped him polish his game

Playing in the social media era is already more difficult.. LeBron’s path is certainly harder. From having mediocre coaches to below average teammates (in the beginning). MJ may have played in an era that was more physical.. but I’m not sure that this era is more difficult to play in. It’s more focused on physical conditioning.. and I’ll tell you this.. I’d rather be more physical than running up and down the court guarding bigger, faster, stronger more athletic ballers which makes it certainly harder to guard on this era of how defense is played. MJ is MJ. I got him second all time. I got Kareem as the greatest. LeBron is 3rd or 4th depending on where you put Bill Russell. But this is a silly debate. Skip obviously has an unhealthy obsession with MJ that borders on psychosis really.. he’s like that woman in the movie Fatal Attraction .. Shannon is trying to defend LeBron against the attacks but it’s no need… Skip isn’t changing his mind. And LeBron as great as he is just hasn’t accomplished quite enough to be in the conversation with Kareem, MJ and Russell. They are in a room by themselves for now. But let’s see what LeBron does before he hangs it up. If he gets the All Time scoring title and wins another chip.. I’d put him ahead of MJ.

Don’t forget, Adam Silver added the play in just recently to make it easier for Bron to it to the playoff. MJ was authentic in what he accomplished on and off the court which became a blueprint for Bron reason he still plays to this day. Looking for a 6th chip. MJ was cut from his high school team as a sophomore, stayed with his team when they weren’t winning, father was murdered. More like from the bottom to the top. Bron on the other hand, didn’t have any difficulty deciding on his jersey number because all he had to do was use MJ’s number, profited millions from the company(Nike) MJ turned into an empire, remade MJ’s space jam and when he couldn’t win, he joined forces to create a super team which allowed him to make it to the finals many years in a row.

The reason MJ's losing effort 63 points is put on a pedestal is because of who he did it against. You had THREE (3) hall-of-famers in Bird, McHale, and Parrish that couldn't stop a one-man-show. I remember watching that game with my own eyes. Everyone who saw the game were in disbelief that not only could MJ score that easily against them, but almost beat what was universally considered the best team by far in the Celtics.

Show me when one of his teammates would leave to go to Vegas in the middle of a Playoff and/or Finals run. Show me when one of LeBron's teammates went down in a pivotal Game 6 and had to carry the team to a win (I'm referring to Game 6 against the Jazz when Pippen's back was hurting him so much that he was barely even a factor in the game). Also, show me when LeBron won 3 chips in a row, lost his father, left the league to play baseball then came back and won 3 more rings. Show me where LeBron signed with Nike and took them from barely being on the radar to one of the most successful shoe companies in the world. Show me a time when LeBron played all 82 games for several seasons in a row. I don't know why Shannon wants this to be true. Why does LeBron want it to be true? Why does LeBron desire so much to be the GOAT? My guess, daddy issues. I don't think LeBron has a mentor or a father figure so there's no one around to keep him grounded and humble.

Disregarding intangibles off the court, Lebron has had the hardest NBA career of all time. The amount of pressure put on this man to defy the odds time and time again is staggering and when he happens to do it what most people do is downplay or asterisk every accomplishment he has. No disrespect to Jordan or Kareem, but Jordan was an Idol in the 90’s and got his way with everything; Kareem had to live up to Wilts dominance early in his career but had more help in elevating his career.
