5:18. “Let’s talk about the issues that Colin is trying to call attention to…”. That’s exactly the point. The method of protest calls most of the attention to the method itself, (and conveniently it calls attention to Colin Kaepernick just as he’s becoming irrelevant), and the issue itself becomes secondary. That’s Ray’s point. So no I don’t think Shannon did a good job in thinking he can just say “let’s talk about the issue” and missing the point, which is that’s exactly the problem with the method of protest. It doesn’t get people talking about the issue. Not only that but associating an issue with a method of protest that itself almost universally offends most people isn’t a good way to garner support for the issue.

I think that’s different to saying that America as a whole is racist. I’m Japanese and even here, racism exists. To expect to completely eradicate every type of hate or bigotry seems like a rather impossible task. Especially when people know that’s your weakness.
@caseywhite81423 жыл бұрын
@@88godson88 I agree with you. Even though I’m half Japanese it’s still cool to see someone else from my ethnic background speak on these types of things. However, that goes without saying that racism is still big in many parts of the United States.

In my ex-girlfriend's hometown of Noble, Oklahoma there were two police officers who responded to a call about a snake in a tree. They shot the snake in the tree not with a Shotgun but with their 9mm handgun and the end result was that a 5 year old child got shot in the head. He was fishing with his grandfather in a nearby pond. None of the officers involved were ever arrested or fired from their job. All of them "promised" to resign and never work as a cop again. One of the 3 officers is now working for another police department. If a regular citizen had accidentally shot the kid, he or she would be in prison. Let that sink in for a moment.

People of color can be prejudice but due to "conceptual fidelity it is impossible for any minority especially black people to be racist. I was raised in Sicily and since I was dark I was and will always be considered north African.....I know this topic and I went to great schools in America thus I learned how whites twist arguments they are loosing. Diverting people from topic is a very old trick and when folks stop giving in to it we will be a strong united nation. Call BS if you want too, I for one do not care. #1. Unlike Colin, Ray was born in a hood, raised in a hood, has done real hood shit, still goes to the hood, and gives back to the hood. So, if anyone has credibility on this issue it's him. You're probably typing from your bedroom in your parents nice suburban house. #2. I love that man Ray Lewis, I used to say. Now in retirement the more he speaks I don't like him as much. His words here & his words against BLM. It's almost as if he is trying to say to the white folks who say he got away with murder, "please like me" (although he was only guilty of not snitching, the dumb ghetto creed)
@JLovebanks8 жыл бұрын
I agree to an extent but I believe he has a misguided frame of mind. He isn't being mentored by the right people. I do believe he loves his people he just wants us to do better for one another before we go protesting the powers that be. The work starts within FIRST then WE together can change the outside forces.

+Klgray7373 The irony of a guy that was on trial for murder of another black man saying we need to address black on black homicides 1st is laughable. Besides that narrative is so fallacious and bullshit for a # of reasons. For 1, people have been killing each other since Cain and Abel aka real brother on brother crime. Sadly people will always kill others. Especially of the same ethnicity because were grouped together thanks to gentrification. Im not saying we shouldnt address it but saying we need to stop it before addressing police killings is like saying wait until pigs fly. Its just a way of avoiding the issue.

@mikeenwright26228 жыл бұрын
Maybe a part of Kaepernick's protest is that the flag does not now represent what US soldiers have fought and died for. Lewis is missing the crucial idea that one's personal integrity must precede patriotism. If your country does not represent the values you stand for, then what are you being patriotic about?

I think the purpose of pointing out black on black crime is really a statement towards BLM, in other words if it's really about black lifes then why do they not address black on black violence and find a solution to that problem as well as things like police brutality. honestly to me they would be more legit if they tackled issues like that also rather it all be about the police, especially in situations where facts are left out... I've heard stories that really make certain instances bad on the cops then find out more facts that say to me the killing was justified because it truly was in self defense... if a cop unlawfully kills someone then there should be severe concequences for that cop, but at the same time the BLM community shouldn't go crazy everytime someone is killed, get the facts and really look at it and ask yourself was this a unlawful killing, if yes then fight for justice, but if no then let it go
@BNA_Est.19888 жыл бұрын
chris- BLM is just the NAME. the whole "if black lives matter, why..." stance irrelevant. Tamir Rice getting shot by police has nothing to do with a turf war in Chicago. Plus BLM has one focus. There are MANY "stop the violence" groups around. Damn near every black athlete is involved with one. Asking BLM to shift focus away from their purpose is the equivalent to asking Susan G Komen Breast Cancer awareness to focus on Alzheimer's when there already other groups doing so

Shannon was spot on concerning the matter of the racial divide in America, and i agree with his take on Kaepernick's position. Kap has every right to do what he did, the way he did! If he gets fired, oh well; free speech isnt free. Bringing the Vet's into it blurrs the argument. The conversation isn't about Vet's or the Flag, its about the black experience in America. Race shouldn't make anyone uncomfortable, but it does. That's why I also appreciate Skip's ability to empathize, but most of all, his willingness to LISTEN. Redress of grievances cant occur if no one listens. And just because one party doesnt listen, does not mean there is no grievance. The police brutality issue deals with all of us, not just blacks. It needs to be pointed out, but disrespecting the country isn't going to unite us. Neither will not sticking up for whites and other minorities being murdered/brutalized by police. It seems like just a knee-jerk reaction from him by what he see's from the media then what is really happening. Also, where is his response to black on black crime that claim more innocent black lives then ANYTHING else? Shouldn't that be more of an issue?? He isn't a spokesmen for fixing this.
