This has got to be one of my favorite "One Minute Melee" fights, ever! Not only because it features two characters I'm fond of, but because everything about this fight is awesome and makes me jump out of my seat with excitement: the choreography, the music, the sound design, the interaction the two have, I love it! I especially love the parts from 3:24 to 3:42. The way Undyne wrecks Pearl is so satisfying to me! From grabbing her spear, to kneeling her in the gut, to grabbing her head, spinning her around then smashing her on the ground, gets me so riled up! I also appreciate usage of the "Ed, Edd and Eddy" sumo sound effect, which is one of the best but also most underrated sounds effects ever. I miss seeing brutal fight scenes like this in today's cartoons.

Everyone keeps going on about how the fight was the PERFECT ending for two pacifist-promoting franchises, but can we all recognize that Undyne and Pearl are pretty evenly matched? Undyne's stronger, but pretty rash. Pearl is more skilled and dexterous, but not as tough (supposedly). That's hard to call, especially since their power sets are also evenly matched. Neither really had an advantage (unless you count Pearl's shapeshifting or Undyne's empowering Determination). Personally, if I had to call it, I'd root for Pearl, since she has more experience overall. But, y'know, I still love this episode.

pearl _can_ shapeshift but the odds of her actually using that in a fight seem pretty low, given how the whole "shattering pink" incident affected her to the point she took until future to be okay shapeshifting again amethyst is honestly one of the only gems who mixes shapeshifting into her fighting style anyway, i can't see many gems using it during combat ! but tbh i do feel like pearl would win in a death battle or something out of experience and the fact that i honestly don't think undyne _does_ have much of a strength advantage - pearl can still apparently pick up and toss a jungle gym _(at a babysitter)_ and with how strong gems tend to be in general, i'd be surprised if she could toss a boulder like undyne can too i still think undyne's probably a fair bit physically stronger in the end, especially in her undying form, but i feel like pearl not being horribly outmatched physical strength-wise combined with her agility, dexterity and experience advantage probably gives her the edge it's definitely a tough call either way though, and omm is just made for entertaining fights anyway - and they did a great job giving us one _(as well as probably the most accurate depiction of how a fight between them would go down anyway !)_

It may just be me but I think Undyne has a better chance at a fight to the death. I mean, Pearl is more agile, precise and experienced and probably skilled, Undyne while not a million times stronger, is still much more physically stronger and can take way more of a hit the Pearl ever could. Pearl does have a bit of trouble with stronger enemies who take her hits and give them back twice as hard, she more relies on her precision, flexibility and miss direction A.K.A. using their strength against them but Undyne isn’t some average soldier, she lead an army and has killed more then now she’d probably not like to admit. She may be rash at times but she’s still a tactician to a degree, she was only outplayed cause she had finally found another human after years, of course she was sloppy. But I think with her durability and decent reflexes, she could hold out until Pearl started making mistakes or started getting tired. Plus she can summon spears from anywhere, she is much more readily available to her weapon then Pearl even if both steps are simple. Long story short, while Pearls nimbleness and precision would prove difficult, Undyne’s durability, unlimited ammunition, overwhelming strength and her own tactical abilities could hold out a win cause in the end, Undyne really just needs on hit to poof her then crush her gem while Pearl needs to get past Undyne’s defenses/armor to kill her. Also, I said nothing about Pearls tactical genius cause she hasn’t really lead an army of any kind. She fought physically, not really mentally. But of course I could be wrong and I probably am but it’s fun to think about, isn’t it?

Only in a genocide run, where she is convinced that you will kill everyone and everything if not stopped, does she achieve her undying form. Except one thing with Rose Quartz that she was actually Pink Diamond in disguise and Undyne can't regenerate after being killed but her undying form kept her clinging on her life before she died in the genocide route of Undertale and the episode of Steven Universe "Bismuth" Pearl had her spear upgraded into a trident but she still prefers to summon her non-upgraded spears and also taking care of Frisk is a bit non-existent since in the game Frisk was only befriending her and Frisk can take care of himself besides Toriel was better at taking care of him before Undyne.

Undying is more of a power up form change. Gem reformation is just that. Regaining their body with some new threads. Just as strong as before they were poofed. Granted During the Slinker episode of SU its implied that theres more to reforming as amethyst has shown that they can rebalance certain parts of them to be stronger at the cost of other parts being weaker as well as making a form "less sustainable" when doing so. I kinda wished they delved more into it.

This turned out to be one of my favorites. Everything from the choreography, pacing, and character acting were all superb. I especially enjoyed how you captured Undyne's brutish personality and Pearl's dancer-esque movements in the way they fight. The one and only point of criticism I have to offer is during the close-ups/hand drawn scenes. 3:23 It becomes quite jarring when Undyne, whose sprite depicts her figure with thick muscles and wide shoulders, suddenly deflates to a stick woman of average anime proportion limbs. The only point of advice I have to offer is stick to the character model. The sprites depict her with muscles so draw her with muscles. I know muscles can be hard to get right but believe me the scene would've been so much more impactful had it not been such a jarring shift in style. I hope you wind up seeing this. These keep getting better and better with each installation and I hope to see them keep improving.

Do those of you who are whining so hard about it being a draw really think it's in character for either of them to kill the other over a petty argument? Because that's pretty much what it would take for either of them to win. A single spear would poof Pearl but she could regenerate. It would take lots of spears to put Undyne down but she'd eventually melt. There are only 3 ways it could end without a draw. 1. Pearl takes it so far that Undyne melts (which is really overestimating Pearl) 2. Undyne poofs Pearl until she's too exhausted to regenerate any time soon. It takes her a long time to regenerate if she does it properly but I doubt she'd take her time if it meant leaving Steven with someone who poofed her. Then again, we've never been shown how fast Pearl can regenerate in haste so there'd be extremely heavy assuming in this scenario. 3. Undyne shatters Pearl in cold blood. Besides, the draw was a fitting ending because it's totally in character for Undyne to befriend a dramatic, flowery, gay swordswoman like Pearl after fighting her for a dumb reason.

I think in the show once they said Pearl back in the days of the war used to regenerate over and over bunches of times after being overwhelmed by soldiers in order to protect Rose. I feel like if it was necessary she can do it much quicker than usual, given she wont be taking her sweet time to design herself a new body.

I would say Pearl has more experience due to her lasting a lot longer in life than Undyne meanwhile Undyne having more speed and physical strength (maybe even endurance two!) both were trained pretty well (no clue who trained Pearl tho DX)

Well, Deathbattle is about pushing the characters to their absolute limits, even when it's out of character. One of their parameters is that the fight HAS to end in a death, which for some characters is out of their character morals. I think it makes for good fights, and I think some of their fights actually pertain to the characters' personalities well, but I do see your point.

@@dentons32 If you believe that the fight should have ended in a tie because of points a show or video game, then you miss the point of a vs. A vs comes down to a 1 on 1 fight unless stated otherwise, the characters are to act how they would in their respected worlds unless stated otherwise, a one on one is no help from an outside source ie Steven, and Frisk once they interfered it no longer became a vs ( "vs" = who would win in a fight and why ) if they where to tie they would have to do it on their own terms, questions need to be asked on how they can come to that scenario. Has pearl talked her way out of a fight? Has undyne been talked out of committing physically or magical violence by someone she doesn't know that isn't Papyrus, Asgore or anyone she considers a friend? This was supposed to be a fight with no research just an understanding of who the characters are and their opinion on who would beat who. What they did was not give their opinion but appealed to both fandom in fear of keyboard warriors after all these are two of the biggest toxic fandoms, which honestly. Is an insult to both undertale and Steven universe because they are caving in to the fandoms not showing how Undyne and Pearl would overcome their differenceses on their own without help, apologize for rude actions and call it a day. But can Undyne do that without being told not to fight by someone she knows?

Wow, this match was fantastic. The sprite work on this one is honestly some of the best sprite work I have ever seen from One Minute Melee, and that is saying something since One Minute Melee has nothing but good sprite work. I mean, these had to be custom made sprites, and despite that they are both insanely well done, to the point where if someone told me this was a cut scene from a game made by some huge professional company, I would honestly be inclined to believe them. Plus I did like how the battle went. It carried the essence of both the fighters and the supporting characters (Frisk and Steven) very well. As always, I love you One Minute Melee, keep up the great work.
